I love you teacher ❤️
Hi, lucy his is tadj from Tchad
U r beautiful
How much for the class per month,
Thanks a lot teacher I've to learn from Burma to know exa- ctly your pronoun- ciation.
Colonel Squirrel went with his friend captain Turtle through the rural area to their yacht, where they formed a choir to take part in Britain Got Talent... 😉👍
Wow!
👍
you’re definitely a genius
lmao!
Haha Nice! 🤣 … but it’s Britain’s Got Talent. 😁
Even as a fluent English speaker, the "colonel" pronunciation was one of the most confusing things I have ever had to deal with in my life
Same! All the others were easy ofc but I absolutely hate that it’s spelled colonel makes me wanna say call-en-l (if that makes sense) not KERNAL
I kept thinking about popcorn kernels
What about lieutenant? Leftenant? There’s no F in there!
we took the spelling from one language and the pronunciation from another...classic English lmao. In Italian it was "colonnelo", then french made it "coronel" which is where the pronunciation came from. Eventually french changed back to "colonel", but both spellings and pronunciations were already in use in English. For whatever reason, people couldn't decide between them and went with the pronunciation from one and the spelling from the other 🤦
Its silent ‘o’ so just say ‘colnel’
“Oh, I know this, looks pretty simple!”
- yacht, choir
«Yot koir what a hell!!”
Yacht is pronounced as "Yaat" on the standard American Language, that lady is referring to british enunciation.
@@ijustcomment4286 thank you for explanation:)
Nah, I'm American, and I know it's pronounced "Skwerl" :)
Yes, over here "squirrel" can rhyme with "girl." Or it can be 2 syllables as in the UK, but still with the first vowel the same as in "girl."
skwarl
I'm American too and I was like "what?" Then i recalled she's British
Nah, I'm German, and I know it's pronounced "Skwewerwel"
wtf were y'all high when you pronouncing English words
As a German, your pronunciation of yacht really surprised me. Didn't see that coming
I never heard anybody pronounce it like that.
Lmao same. I went.. "J?"
Fair enough
Wait ive never heard anyone pronounce it differently
How do you pronounce it?
*did nazi that coming.
Sorry, had to be done.
Before watching the video
“Im native speaker “
Also me
“Yach”
'Colonel' is a word that does not really follow any rules for pronunciation, but it's a beautiful word when pronounced.
It follows the French pronunciation rule, while it is spelt as "coronel" in French, and "r" in French is pronounced like "h".
The spelling "colonel" comes from the Italian word "colonnello".
Colonel took me TF out ! 🤣
Really 🤔🤔🧐🧐.... definitely no one around you has a military background
That's because the first L is a red herring, and the R is completely missing. It is said just like kernel.
Choir sounds so much like quiet. Though it's literally the opposite, you're not quiet in a choir. Except if it's a choir of silent monks
Hahahahaha
The word choir she like quire not quiet..
As a native English speaker, this was not hard. thanks CZcams for recommendation.
I could listen to Lucy all day long......
You know she’s quite British when she says töööÖtel
I mean... how do YOU pronounce?? She said it right. Even Americans agree
@@marioluigi9599In American the pronunciation of "turtle" is a little bit different, it's not as long as in british
i mean her pronunciation is right but only in British accent
@@ajidk5737 actually, in all accents from all English speaking countries. Except America and Canada. They're special needs cases
In the USA we pronounce turtle as turdel
We use a harder R sound for turtle in america@@marioluigi9599
I believe the word "yacht" has to be the most mispronounced word in the english language, ever. Perhaps due to the fact not everyone have such a boat...
Really? That one was the easiest one for me, it's literally pronounced the same in my language lol
we say [yät] here instead
@@alberto6169 Ok, sorry. Maybe that's we swedes, I would say...
I’ve never heard anyone mispronounce yacht. 🤷♀️
@@Reclaim-the-Rainbow my whole school life I pronounced it as 'ya-ch' because-
1) English was not even 2nd language, it was 3rd. And it was introduced us in 5th grade.
2) our teachers did,
3) it was 80-90s we didn't have internet.
Hi dear teacher Lucy
Thank you so much for your help and advice
The first one got me LOL
“Yacht” is actually really easy for Germans to pronounce if you know how it is pronounced, because the letter “j” is called like that in German 😂 if we don’t know how to pronounce it though, one will pronounce it in a really different way because it has the same spelling but another pronounciation in German
Yeah all my life I would pronounce all the sounds
The letter "j" is called like that also in polish. And polish word for yacht is... jacht. But we do pronounce all the letters and I would never thought of saying it as "jot"... Where the hell that "ch" has gone? And people says that polish is complicated - we do pronounce all letters in words xD
Thanks a million! Let's continue improving our skills in this area! Let's do it together guys! I wish you good luck!
I could listen to you all day long Lucy 😂 The most beautiful english teacher ever ♥️

I did NOT expect colonel to sound like that-😲
oh no, I struggled with yacht and choir :D
They have spellings that make no sense at all. Choir should be spelled cwior, and the c in yacht should disappear.
how did you not know yacht
Thanks, I've ac-choir-ed some knowledge
Thank you Lucy for teaching us the right pronunciation of these words 👍👍
My regards from the Dominican Republic I'm Juan just wanted to say thanks for your teachings & YOU'RE GORGEOUS 😍😍😍
Arigato for teaching me how to pronounce choir and squirrel 💀💀
I feel so dumb
In the dialect of the city of Rome the word "arigato" means "i rigatoni" i e. a particular type of pasta very common in Italy 😄
Thanks lucy! I love this short, but sharp and useful video. Please make more like this. It's the best way for training pronunciation. 👍🥰🙏
So beautiful english teacher 🎉
I loved. Thanks from Rio de janeiro Brazil
Your channel helps me a lot
Choir and colonel should have different spellings. Actually English could use a spelling reform in general. I didn’t realize turtle could be a difficult word to pronounce.
English sounds amazing but has a terrible graphema-phonema correspondence. I agree with you on a language reform, it would help a lot.
@@teteskone41 that's why I love English, you can never guess the correct spelling most of the times
@Muhammadaziz Aslanov deym, mah dawg, yo coohl brah/bruh/bro... yo shud be a teecher, peepl shud be teecht zat at skool 🤣 😂👍💪🔥
I guess that’s because some English words were quoted from other languages(French, German etc.) and they just didn’t trans pronunciations
Yes let’s just reform spelling on the English language, good idea not pointless at all
I was expecting "Worcestershire sauce"
It’s the pronunciation of “tricky” that blew my mind.

New Zealand English is basically just removing the last letter of every word
In that case I wish your previous PM was less of a lefty bitc.😉
Thanks for teaching us
I can pronounce all these words accurately. I have lived in Australia for 40 years. The Australian accent is somewhere in the middle between UK and US. My grandfather was my dictionary when I was learning English as a teenager, in his childhood years my grandfather learned his English in a secondary college established by people from UK in Tianjin China in the early 1900s, and he completed his medical training in the US.
Hola Lucy…you look American today…I have to practice more “ colonel “ sounds almost like “kernel “👀😳🤣😂🤣😂Lmao …y’all have a great weekend!!! Saludos!!!👋😃👋
I always forget how to pronounce colonel 😂
Useful tips, thank you
What an expert.😳😳😳😳😳. My confidence went into thin air..

I can never remember how to pronounce Colonel😭 if I have to tell a story with a Colonel in it, I'll demote him and pretend it was a captain.... So sad
Even native speakers struggle with this one the first time they see it written. I thought it was colonial.
It should be spelled curnel.
The colonel is a kernel of an idea😉
These words would not be difficult for an ESL first grader.
Finally someone recalled the most tricky word - choir
I could listen to this girl pronounce words all day
Who else tried to pronounce " tricky " At starting 😅
me: all correct except one : yacht 😯
The c in yacht doesn't belong.
I pronounced all the words in the exact tone as Lucy does 😂
This is the effect of watching her videos on loop
Corn?
Squeezy ball?
Kangaroo?
Ruler?
Yawchkt?
Kwai-uhr!
Idk why i can pronounce the last one
Lucy If I give you some Hindi language words,Will u have the ability to pronounce them? 🤝
Why ignore the ch in yacht? if they’re not needed, then why be there?
and how is colonel became “kernull”? why is English so inconsistent?
Don’t even get me started with although, rough, thorough, through & bough.
The word ‘colonel’ originally comes from the Italian word ‘colonnello’. When the French adopted that word into their own language they changed it to ‘coronel’.
Eventually the English adopted that word from the French. Over time the English spelling changed, but the pronunciation didn’t.
@@Mini-cu6mk thanks for the explanation. much appreciated. i guess it’s high time for English to get its act together instead of letting the past control its very inconsistent pronunciations at the present time.
Excellent job 🎉
Thanks for the helpful video.

In French it's pronounced the same : yott
It's pronounced "jot" in both italian and french
Lovit. Easy now. Thanks madam.
I thought she’s going to name “tortoise”. This one used to trick me until my English teacher corrected me yrs ago. I used to pronounce it as TOR-toys which is incorrect of course. Since then I learned the correct pronunciation as TOR-tus.
