What a blast, growing up as a kid my brothers and I would share seat time on a 72 Elan. Hours of entertainment, and 40 years later that single cylinder still fires right up!

Riding those old Ski-doo's is a younger man's game, it brings back a lot of memories, it always seemed like you were spending more time getting it unstuck then actually riding, or at least in the deep powder it was, thanks for the trip down memory lane 😂👍

When I was a kid we had a 1966 Ski-doo and my cousin had a 1965 Ski-doo. We rode them all over the place. One of the skis poked a hole in the gas tank and my dad didn't want to fix it and obviously he didn't think about using a gas can, so he got rid of it. My cousin's is still running. Cool video, brought back a ton of memories, thanks.

When I was in high school we would skip school on powder days before anyone else could track things up. We had 12.3 Olympic, a 70’s model. Can’t remember the exact year. My buddy had a 15 horse Olympic, had the more sporty cowl. They were so much fun in the pow cause they just float on the pow. Like you said they are so light and had enough power to get thru the deep snow. We’d jump em and make bomb holes in the snow. Carve em through the open fields . I grew up in Northern Maine. This brought back some great memories.

Absolutely awesome, thanks much,I grew up with these and they went really good for the time but consider how easy you get it unstuck, just right it up and off it goes, it did really well in that deep snow, I almost get a heart attack getting my polaris 151 unstuck...lol

I had one almost identical to yours when I was twelve. It was my first snowmobile and I got it in 77’. Man I thought that thing was the best thing since sliced bread. I don’t recall having as many problems with tipping or getting stuck as you did in this video but maybe it was because I weighed considerably less back then. Lol. Great little sled for a first timer. Awesome video, thanks for sharing.

had a 69 in 74 as a kid. yes, fun all day! you had to tip them sideways once in a while and give it gas to clean out the bogies. super reliable motor. nothing like wearing a old aftermarket full snowmobile suit with gas back spittin out the carb when i gave it gas. the only problem with these type bogie suspensions were the rear axle/bearings. they do not have any grease fittings and after a while the bearings seize and ruin the rear axle. to this day i try to think of a fix for that.

Broke your spindles, the best thing to do is get a inch to inch and a half block between the leaf and the part that it attaches to. This will put more pressure on the runner, without overstepping the spindles. No problems with spindles after that. Oh also I had carbide runners.

Sorry to say you don't know how to ride a real snowmobile. This is coming from an antique. I had an 1972 olympic skidoo. You let the snowmobile float under you. You're just overworking the dang thing, nothing wrong with old machines.
