Traditionally Claudio Ranieri used the 4-4-2 as his set up formation.
In game the team transforms into the 4-3-1-2 with the midfielders getting narrower, lacking the natural wingers in wider areas. At times Riise looked like a winger rather than a fullback.

-Quick transition from defence to attack
-Fullbacks always have spaces to exploit in wider areas
-Cms runs from deep
-Deny opposition running into spaces. Players track the opposition runs from deep midfield
-Defensively Compacted
-Attackers constant movement
-Totti 'False 9' drags opposition defenders out of defence leaving space for others to exploit
-Players are always eager to 'Get in Behind' the opposition defence
The Bad
-Vulnerable against teams who play on the counter attack
-Lack of natural wingers. Fullbacks provide the width
-Struggle against high pressing teams
-Heavily dependent on Vucinic for goals
-Depends on Totti creativity On and OFF the ball
-Fatigue takes a toll on the Fullbacks as they operate as the winger to provide the width together with defending
-Narrow defence causes the opposition to exploit the wider areas. Struggle against good crossers of the ball and quality wingers cutting inside
