Hey GMM Crew, I know you guys were having fun with the mold. I am a qualified prosthetics artist and I do a lot of face casts, molds etc. I think you should be warned that this technique is actually really dangerous. Im so glad you vaselined the brows and lashes but using plaster of paris bandages is really bad for the face. The proper technique would be to using alginate on the face, cover it with bandages and then fill the mold with plaster/clay called herculite.I just wanted to give my professional opinion and just make sure none of the viewers do this. Please be wary.

Plaster can get hot the chemical reaction that causes it to harden also gets pretty hot so having all precautions is a good idea(i used plaster to build a statue for an art thing once that thing got hot when it was semi dry
Im so glad you said something, im no professional but i do sfx makeup and i used this method to make a face cast. My skin was wrecked for weeks.

I love plastering/ life casting! Its so awesome when you get to actually make it into something!
Just want to put this out there, this "method" of lifecasting is one of the most dangerous you can use. It's not an accepted method of lifecasting in the special effects makeup industry, and it can lead to very serious consequences. Plaster and plaster bandages should never be put directly on the skin 😕

We did this at my school for a drama class, it:s scary to know it"s so dangerous.
When I was in the art academy in school we literally did the same exact method to create masks, which is why I had a hard time believing you at first because I can't see how it can be condoned by the fourth largest school district in the US if it's so harmful.
It's dangerous or harmful if not done properly, I had to do some hard core investigating to corroborate your statement- but I found a published book stating that someone suffered third degree burns in areas where an inch of plaster bandages were applied. I also researched how plaster of Paris dries and in an exothermic reaction so I can believe that.
I can't believe that the school condoned this method now.
Omg glad someone saw it too. I was seeing them apply the bandages directly onto his skin and I was like oh god, this is not going to end well. Everyone should use pinkysil and then apply the bandages over that because pinkysil is fine on skin. Don't forget about undercuts as well.
