I’m gonna rant along with you for a second if you’ll allow me :). Race, Jack, Spot, Buttons, and Barney Peanuts are all names that were mentioned in the papers as being associated with the strike. All their tales and stories are sort of formed into one figure in the musical, Jack Kelly. So yes, in real life Race’s name probably wasn’t Anthony, but the fandom pretty much agrees that the fictional, Manhattan version of “Race” is Anthony. Thanks for the cool comment btw!

Another thing you may know this already but- Kids Blink was basically the Jack Kelly in real life and I don’t think there was a kid blink in the Broadway version and if there is someone please tell me cause I need to know cause recently newsies was put on in a school and there wasn’t a kid blink

I play Jojo in a production of Newsies and to be completely honest I’m kinda digging the name Jonah. Like, hello newsies fandom his real name doesn’t have to be JORGELINO JOSEPHINO DE LA GUERRA. Like dAmN that’s long, it could be Jonah De La Guerra.
Its historically accurate tho, considering the Spanish-american war that happened a year prior to the musical timeline. And jonah isn't a Spanish name, so it would make no sense to have his last name be of Spanish descent. And Spanish names are usually very long anyway.
And Jorgelino Josephino de la Guerra gives us insight onto his past because 'de la Guerra' means from the war, giving us the inference that he comes from a troubled past. I think it's a perfect name for him tbh :)
Jack and Crutchie have The Best Relationship in the Musical, They're like Brothers and when Crutchie hurts Jack Hurts too. Nothing against Spot, but Jack, Davie, and Crutchie are the Stars of the Show.
