My 27" (2017) iMac (I have to edit videos on an external hard drive), but I just purchased a Mac Studio M2 and am looking for a monitor that I can afford that isn't so cheap it won't honor the beast of a computer I just bought! So, here I am trying to find a monitor that will serve it for a year or two before upgrading to the Apple Studio monitor. I'm trying to figure out if this BenQ 2700U was replaced by the 2705U or 2706U. Does anyone know? Thanks for the review.

  • @EugWanker

Specs are fine, but don't always represent real world quality. I bought an Asus ProArt PA329CV 32" 4K monitor with ∆E < 2, 100% sRGB, and 100% Rec 709. Just eyeballing it, colours seemed fine, but it suffered bad backlight bleed on one side, which basically made it a non-starter. I then bought a Huawei MateView 28.2" 4K+ 3840x2560 monitor with ∆E < 2, 100% sRGB, and 98% DCI-P3. Despite the claim of ∆E < 2, out-of-the-box the colours were clearly off. So I bought a calibrator and recalibrated it, and the colours look great now, with none of the horrible backlight bleeding the Asus ProArt had. The calibration software says it indeed is 100% sRGB, but DCI-P3 is 96%.

@@StefanoLombardoYT ☺️Why do you say in that video that it is useless to calibrate cheap TVs or monitors because they cannot give all the color of the content that is being sent or viewed? If I calibrate my $200 TV, will it not look the same as an $800 or more? I don't understand? my wii u gamepad with tn panel, lcd is calibrated and it is 2012 and the colors look better than on my 2017 tv, it goes, 8 bit, led, the lighting unless I put my gamma, backlight, contrast to the maximum they do not resemble the wii u gamepad. what I mean is that by calibrating the screens you can see the colors and the content as it was made. I suppose that with the calibration the delta e will be balanced, right? Or is it mandatory to buy expensive screens because a 2012 screen cannot be seen better than these new TVs.

One of the best videos on this subject, but there should be a few clarifications:
    1. Some important properties of pro monitors usually don't show up on spec sheets, such as monitor uniformity and edge bleeding which is common on lower-end monitors.
    2. You mentiond a monitor covering 100% Srgb, 98%Argb, but not REC709. I guess they just didn't put it on the spec sheet since rec709 is very similiar gamit to Srgb, so that monitor definatly covers it.
    3. Something not a lot of reviewers mention is that if most of your work is being published online and you don't do your own printing, you are probably good enough with Srgb coverage, no need to worry much about Argb.
Also you can get pretty decnt Srgb coverage and even 100% sometimes on pretty simple monitors with calibration, so at a pinch, getting a 200$ calibration device could improve your existing monitor's performance alot.
Still, very informative and useful, keep it up! 👍🏽

Very interesting tips, thank you very much! I have a question though. When you say "and you don't do your own printing, you are probably good enough with Srgb coverage, no need to worry much about Argb.", do you mean that if I send pictures I edited in SRGB to a print lab, they will convert it to ARGB for me and make sure it is converted properly? Or do you just mean that I don't need to worry about it because I'll never print, and so will never need ARGB?

Nice video, I have BenQ PD2700U it's a great monitor and my only complaining is the downsize of the UI and menus & icons are very small size in some creator apps like 3ds Max/ Maya..etc, I don't have that issue with Adobe apps, Thanks for the vid.

    • @StefanoLombardoYT
      @StefanoLombardoYT  Před rokem +6

That's actually not a problem with the monitor. It is 4K so you will have smaller icons and UI, but also more screen real estate! If you go into your display settings on your laptop or computer, you can change the screen resolution or the size of UI!

YMMV, but on a Mac, I didn't like 32" 4K (138 ppi) for text. Scaled text was all blurry, and gave me a headache. I like 27" 4K or 28" 4K+ (both 164 ppi). Scaled text looks very good and no headaches. 27" 5K (218 ppi) is even better for scaled text, but the options are pretty limited and it's very expensive. Also, strangely enough, the 2304xXXXX scaled resolution I prefer for 27/28" in macOS is available on 4K/4K+ monitors, but not 5K monitors.

Just FYI blue light doesn't cause eye strain. It's actually because your eyes are focusing at a single close distance for a long time. It requires your eye muscles to work harder to hold focus because of how close it is. That's why eyes become strained from phones and computers of the like.

I have a Dell UP2716D that was factory calibrated, 100% sRGB and 100% Adobe RGB that I use for photo editing. I also have an i1 Display Pro and when calibrated with that tool the colors are noticeably different than the original factory calibration. Which one should I trust? The colors are also different when viewing on my S21 Ultra, and waaay different when viewing on an iPhone (very yellowish)

What about Dell? It makes a lot of different ones... I've used Dells exclusively for many years and they were pretty reliable. But never needed one color-accurate until now. So I'd like a Dell for that too.

I was about to order a BenQ monitor because of specs, BUT I read that customers were complaining about terrible customer support. They also don't repair there monitors (per BenQ). I will probably end up ordering an EIZO.

I recently bought the Benq PD2700U monitor to connect to my MacBook for photo editing, but I quickly noticed that skin tones would be much more red and magenta on the Benq monitor than on my MacBook. Does anyone else experience the same problem and if so, how do I solve this? I tried calibrating the Benq a few times but nothing has worked so far.

Hi, you may have already gotten the answer to this, but my suggestion is make sure you have it set to the correct color space. I believe this monitor has a specific MacBook setting. Hope that helps, as I'm considering buying this one for a Mac, too.

I was looking at a couple of ASUS ProArt displays because of various reviews, but they generally have poor user reviews on Amazon, especially from Mac users (the need for firmware upgrades that could only be done with the use of a PC, really bad ASUS tech support)... so I'm looking elsewhere.Seems like review sites are just looking at specs and not actually using the displays they recommend... or maybe their IT person sets up the display for the review. I'm my own IT person, and don't need the headaches it looks like ASUS put the Amazon reviewers thru.

Also hurts the wallet. The lower end 4k like the cs2740 27" 4k are currently around $1800usd. A step up to something like the cg319x in 31.5" 4k is $5,882 usd. And if you go balls out for the cg3146 you're looking at basically $29,500-33,399usd with payment plans of over $550/mo with financing, lease options for over $1000usd/mo and some places will only sell in person, won't even ship. That's a straight up gangbang.

I opened your video on 3 different devices and it looked different on each one. That's a fact of life or you're equipment is crap and or you're insufficiently trained and can't see the difference. I opened it on a Samsung phone, a Samsung tablet and on a calibrated ViewSonic studio display.
Unfortunately even with photographers most and by most I mean 95% of users by crap displays or an Apple display which is also bad.
You need to buy a display capable of displaying as wide a gamut as possible then calibrate it, then control your color management in you video or image editing application ans stop working in a dark environment, you are not a bat.
