I visit Prague about 5-6 times a year, but where ever I travel to I am very obsessive about finding the absolute best bang for the buck within my level, I look for hotels at £100-150/ night.
For the past 4 years I've mainly been using the same hotel right next to the Želivského Metro station, in my opinion it is the absolute best bang for the buck in Prague, it's also on the A line, so you can get a bus and metro from the airport just as quick as a car.

Pro tip: Avoid suitcase on wheels if you stay in city center - use backpack instead. Most of the city center is paved with cobblestones and I see tourist struggle everyday on bumpy streets.

I stayed in Prague a few weeks ago at the Roadhouse Hostel, it was one of the best hostels I've stayed at for that price and they ran activities every night so you could hang out and get to know the other travellers. Also just wanted to thank you guys so much, your channel helped me immensely for my stay in Prague and the walking tours were the best!

I stayed in the Hotel Waldstein twice, many years ago and it was charming and inexpensive. The breakfast was enough to last through the day until the evening meal and conveniently located to all of the major tourist attractions. I love the city.

I'm terrible at taking public transport so, will always stay near to the places I wish to visit and change lodgings when needed. For example, during 1 trip to Prague, I stayed in New Town for a few nights, moved to Holešovice and then to Little Quarter. Never took a tram, bus or metro, got everywhere on foot.

Exactly the same advice I would give. This summer we stayed in Dejvice, close to where my grandparents used to live and walking distance to the castle. We also stayed several times in nice apartment in Petřiny. But always close to metro or tram stations. Best value for money, also in the local restaurants there.

When I'm in Prague, I stay in Smichov. It is convenient due to the Andel metro station and several tram lines. It's a fairly well-served neighborhood, I can only recommend it. It's not exactly quiet for quiet, but there aren't many people on the streets. Another advantage is that there is fresh beer here in the pub of Staropramen factory.

I've been in Praha two times.. first time I stayed in a hostel in Mala stana and the second time in Zizkov. Both stays were okay. In Mala Strana, the only complaint I had was the noise of cars riding on the cobble stones in the middle of the night.

Stayed at two places in Prague. The first was Hotel Mucha (on your list) because my wife wanted cheap. I found it quaint. My wife did not know who was Mucha and kept telling me to walk faster as I was examining the artwork. A bit of a walk, so we stayed at Hotel Kings Court (also on the list). Closer to the action, more luxurious. Both very different, but I would recommend both. This was about two years ago.

Nice video, guys. Valery - love the dress! We begin our 10th trip to Prague this week - we obviously love the place! Did you mention Prague 2? I may have missed it. Not just Vinohrady - the area around IP Pavlova too. In any case, one thing you missed was mentioning the importance of the night trams if you are staying further out. The Metro ends at midnight, so if you plan on a night life, you need to know not only where the Metro stops, but also where and when the night tram runs.
    See you next week...yay, Prague!

No native Praguer uses this modern weird definition of Prague with "22 Pragues," we use old post system with only 10 districts and second - most of districts you recommend are still part of wider historical center and are very crowded and today probably too expensive for staying, most of Praguers can't afford to live there. I lived in Vinohrady for some time and I hated it as a kid, you have no space, drunken people are yelling under your windows whole night and when metro is going, your house is shaking. I guess that some people will like that, but I really don't recommend to stay there unless you find some more hidden and peacefull street which will be probably even more expensive. I much more liked living in commblocks far from center.
Prague 10 is one of the best districts to stay, especially places like Vršovice and if 15 minutes in tram is too long time for you, then you don't even know what real commuting is, I was walking 2 km to train station and then another 1 hour in train every day and you are saying that beying far from center is problem because of commuting, it's not problem and also, most of native people don't work as tourist guides as you, so there is no reason to travel to center everyday.
You don't need to stay in commblocks (even when there is no problem with that at all, you don't have to be scared, it's totaly fine now), you can go to districts like Braník or Podolí with totaly peacefull places and you can live in some apartment building or even family house built between 20s and 50s. Disadvantage of places like Braník, Podolí or Vršovice is there is no metro, but there are trams and train. If you live somewhere on edge of Prague and you have metro there, it's win, you can be in center in 10 minutes.
Just don't live in Disneyland and wider center is still disneyland, only upper class people live there + some people who just deny to move because they love Prague, but if you don't work for some western corporation as English speaking expat, you will be glad that you have some apartment at least in that commblock somewhere on the last station of metro and there is nothing wrong with that because those places look totaly different than 20 years ago, you have everything there and it's very green now.
Also, you should know that today "big Prague" (created in 20s) is made of former standalone cities and towns, so pretty much each of these districts has it's own historical center, some of them were unfortunately demolished, but some of them still exist, so you can have your own "disneyland" with normal prices and no crowds, just don't stay in that crazy anthill in center of Prague. When you live in som commblock in Krč or somewhere in Kunratice, you are far from center, but you can go to forest and check castle ruin and you are still in Prague, 10 minutes from center by metro.
Another problematical thing in center is shopping, all those malls in center and very crowded and very overpriced, so you have to travel to those commblock places anyway to shopping, unless you are ok with double prices in center and if you stay here permanently and have a Czech salary, you just can't pay such money for everyday grocery shopping, so you think you save time by staying more close to center? Nope, you have to travel to far districts anyway.

  • @FridayHefler
    @FridayHefler Před 8 měsíci +1

Plenty of us do still live in Stare Mesto and Mala Strana, though real estate prices and tourism has driven most people out, or drove away most of the neighborhood amenities people need to live locally (caused by rent hikes, replacing them with over priced shops or tourist junk sellers). But there is a lot of local life left here, hidden in our neighborhoods and the city government itself is running initiatives to return the area back to having normal families living there, and to building community in these areas.
Prague is a city, that's what the draw is, it's a living city, and if the city is abandoned to tourists, it won't be anymore, and the visitors will feel that too.

It’s very quiet. Metro station is about 6-7 mins walk but you can walk everywhere in Old Town and even to Jewish Quarter and New Town.
Castle District is probably better to do by tram as there is a big hill to climb
Central areas in Prague are all walkable

went to prague last july and I booked in Holešovice, a bit by accident as I focussed on price instead of location...got a surprise when I noticed I was a bit far....however with the subway system it was so easy moving around that it was no problem at all. Speaking of the subway when I first took it in my obvious tourist way meaning with my lugguage I saw a controler jump right after me looking probably for a juicy tourist fine however I had watch your video on prague public transport and unfortunately for him my ticket was properly validated so no busting me hehe :)

Okay. We work as guides in Prague, and many customers who stay in Old Town (for example near Dlouha street, complained to us it was quite loud at night). It obviously varies throughout the year. Winter months are more quiet, than summer. This was just general description of what certain areas are like and what can you expect when looking for accommodation in them. It doesn’t mean it will always be loud when you stay in Old Town, especially if your hotel has good sound isolation.

The first two, for what I've seen, are very close not far from the National Theatre. Pod Vezi is not so far away but closer to Charles Bridge so perhaps potentially noisier at night. I'm leaning toward Cube Hotel. Am I wrong? Thanks in advance and Happy 2024!!!

There is absolutelly no reason to spend a money for an overpriced accomodation around the city center, once you can get by public transport to the city center within 10-20 minutes with no issue
So forget about Staré Město and Malá Strana, its completely pointless,
rather try to take a look around Vysočany, Holešovice, Libeň or even Prosek, actually even if you will find accomodation eg. in Horní Počernice, which is kinda PRG- East outskirt, then you can get by a train to the Main Station in around 30 minutes
