    You don't need that much frosting for the crumb coat. A crumb coat is a thin layer of icing to catch crumbs, not a normal layer of frosting, or I'll,have way too much frosting in one bite.

    • @Serai3
      @Serai3 Před 7 lety +2

      No, sorry. This is not a matter of something sweet. This is a matter of at least FIVE times as much frosting as a cake actually needs. This thing is barely even a cake - it's a block of frosting separated by a couple of inches of cake. It's disgusting - gloppy spoonfuls of butter and sugar. Who the hell eats like that? Who even thinks that's desirable? What the hell ever happened to frosting being FROSTING - you know, a layer that COMPLEMENTS the cake, not smothers and drowns out its flavor. _Gringos_, man - you guys can ruin anything.

    Crumb coating: a thin layer of frosting to seal in those dastardly crumbs of cake. Uh huh, so he plops three huge scoops of frosting on the cake, lol! I'm not really a baker, but isn't a crumb coat supposed to be somewhat see through?

    • @andreaa.9709
      @andreaa.9709 Před 7 lety +59

      yes, it is. But it doesn't really have to be. He was clearly going for very thick icing. As long as your crumb coat is thinner than you end goal, it does the trick!

    • @rosiebee1585
      @rosiebee1585 Před 7 lety +3

      Michael Hubbard yes it should be a thin layer, 'bout two ice cream scoops.

    • @Silentgrace11
      @Silentgrace11 Před 7 lety +2

      It depends on what you're using. The few times I've gone thinner than this crumbs ended up on the finished layer of frosting, too.

    • @tarynsmith5348
      @tarynsmith5348 Před 4 lety +2

      I guess it depends on the amount of crumbs coming off of the cake, and the bakers liking too. It is usually see through, but a thicker crumb coat will do just fine. hope this helps!

      @@Serai3 What mistake? His cake was beautiful, and definitely looked better than the first one! I've been a cake decorator for 40+ years, and would not want a cake of mine to look like the first one did when it was cut. It's called "being a professional". Oh, and it's not "butterfat"; it's "buttercream" - there is a huge difference between the two. So next time you bash someone for their work, maybe you should first learn a bit about it so you'll at least have a clue as to what you are talking about.

      Don't take this idiot as an example. When I make a cake, only about a half a cup is left over. That's because I don't make a ton of frosting, just enough to do the job. This guy apparently thinks no matter how much you glop onto a cake, it's fine. Which it ISN'T. There are better videos out there. Please look at other people's work, because this guy doesn't have any idea what makes a good cake.

    I don't like how the cake moves when he is cutting it. The cake must be secured onto the cake stand with a bit of icing. Also for an amateur baker is easier to get a cake leveler (Ikea has a very good and cheap one).

    To be honest I don't think there is such thing as a perfect cake I mean the most common thing you would do with a cake is eat it doesn't have to be perfect it will just get messy so there is really no point in making a perfect cake well unless you want it to be very special.P.S. I am not trying to be mean or rude I'm just expressing how I feel about this episode.

      +varelblackberry I like Yolanda too so don't get me wrong but she isn't the only person who knows how to make a cake. And you don't have to simple syrup all cakes either, she does that so her cakes stay moist because it takes awhile to finish her cakes. A cake like this doesn't really need it.
