  • Panamá Viejo, founded in 1519 by conquistador Pedro Arias Dávila, is the oldest European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas. Abandoned in the mid-17th century after a fire (the result of a pirate attack,) it was replaced by a "new town," now known as the "Historic District," or Casco Viejo, which has preserved its original street plan, architecture, and a unique blend of Spanish, French, and early American styles. This part of Panama City has been designated a United Nations World Heritage site.
I filmed this video during a five day visit to Panama City in May 2024.
