A detail about the goat she killed for smelling and acting like a goat: Her first shot at the goat only wounded it, so she had to leave it flopping around in the infamous gravel pit while she went back to her vehicle to get another round for her gun. Not only is Noem a psycho who believes people should applaud her wantonly killing animals, she's admitted that she's such a crap shot that she can only single-shot kill an animal _under her control_ 50% of the time.

She writes like she's some sort of the mob boss of dogs who takes the 'bad' ones out to her version of the New Jersey swamps, her gravel pit. What kind of nonhuman is she? We had a dog that we adopted. He was adorable, but an escape artist, and would never stop.
We found a farmer, who took him. He's perfectly happy now. He just needed space.

Thankfully, if she was in the UK, she also wouldn't have a gun either - nor would she be allowed to shot and leave the animals in a pit like she does with the other ones she shoots - thank goodness for regulations (and good vets, who would have taken the dog and rehomed it to someone who could train it!)

I adopted a 18 month old German Shorthaired Pointer, a hunting dog, who had two previous owners and some bad behaviors. Within the first week he ate an entire pizza, ate a jar of parmesan cheese, chewed the garden hose, barked constantly, tried to catch birds, dug holes and along with other things he knocked me down causing a badly broken foot and other injuries. The solution was clear, no, I didn't shoot him like that sociopath governor did, nor did I beat him, I took him to obedience classes, and I learned how to train him not to do the bad behaviors. I even trained him not to chase the birds in the yard. No violence, no yelling, just love and treats. He's 13 now, and has been such a loyal, loving companion, and my best buddy.

I used to tell clients that the BEST mature dogs are often the MOST ANNOYING as youngsters. Like a genius kid.

At 14 months old, a dog should not be considered to be untrainable. Further, she should have tried to find a trainer or just put it into adoption.
My Dalmatian was in puppy stage for the first two years of his life. He ended up being the best dog I ever had and grieve for him still. Well trained, loving and a good guardian. 💕🦮

Thank you for speaking up on this. Her actions are atrocious and she should be prosecuted. She had multiple other ways that she could have humanely handled this, but she took the sickest, most sociopathic/psychopathic way out. She was the one responsible for the deaths of the chickens because she failed to train the dog and failed to restrain the dog. She FAILED that dog.
The goat was a buck. She couldn’t have brought him to auction, placed him on Craigslist, or had him neutered, but again she took the most inhumane way out.

I like all animals; my little cat has been with me for seven years now,seven years of joy. He's my sunlight, moonlight, and starlight all together. Most of the people I know either have a cat or a dog, and one has a parakeet, all very sweet. I can't imagine why anyone would want to hurt or kill an animal, but then I don't think like a sociopath.

Ive had 3 dogs. All mutts. Foundlings. My dogs were loved and very much part of the family. Never treated them badly. And they were house trained, pampered, and loved. Never even put on a leash.. she is a monster. And then, on top of all, a puppy? Tough decision? Nah, unfeeling monster...
In one interview, she portrayed him (or her) as an adult working dog, which is total bull. It was a 14 month old puppy, who simply needed some training. I worked with several pointers, including the breed in question. They’re great dogs, consistently good tempered if you raise them right and _also realize that they’re not mature until 2-3 years old._
Until then, pointers will try almost everything once. It’s a working dog thing.

I was just wondering how long she had owned Cricket and what kind of training did she try. It doesn’t sound like she tried the basic, sit/stay and come when called commands which I thought all dogs should learn. It’s no wonder the dog was all over the place when off the leash. (CAVEAT: I’ve only ever had one dog, a beagle terrier mix I grew up with about a billion years ago. Sit/stay and coming when called were pretty much all we taught her, but we lived in the suburbs with no livestock to tempt her.)

As farmer, hunter and long time owner of HPR breeds, I know how challenging they can be, but it is your duty as an owner to persevere and meet that challenge as you might with an errant child: with patience, compassion and leadership. Here's a good animal story for you. It's about a cat.
I was sell marketing and had an appoint- ment with an animal hospital.
There was a cat roaming around the lobby and I called it over here, Kitty kitty and they said oh, he won't come up to you. He doesn't come up to anybody. He came up to me right away. Then as I bent over to pick him up, they went. Oh, he won't even let us pick him up. But I picked him up put him on my shoulder And everybody could hear this cat purring like a motor.
Now, how did this cat end up at the animal hospital? Somebody abandoned it in a box outside the door and was found Monday morning.
I adopted the cat. He was a little aggressive in the beginning. Kept biting me had to work on the temperament stuff, but we became wonderful friends and a year and a 1/2 after I got him. He detected my breast cancer. I had an unscheduled mammogram, so it was detected early. Then we found out because of the water weight from the chemo, I needed open heart surgery. And if I hadn't had it then I only had 3 more years to live, which means I would have died in 2012.
cats and dogs and all animals are god's gift to us and we should treat them as such.
A year ago I moved into a home with a dog. I have lived with dogs who were pretty well trained before, but my new canine friend is VERY well trained! He and his mom and trainer have the most incredible relationship I’ve ever seen! And after a year of love and respect, and learning his rules, he loves me so much too!!! Incredible what good training can bring to the relationship❤❤❤
I don't think we can train Kristi Noem to feel empathy.
Over the past fifty years I have adopted ten dogs from animal shelters; four of them, one chow and three pit bulls, were on the kill list simply because of their breed. I can say that I rescued them, but in reality they rescued me from a life of hard labor and loneliness. Nine of those beloved friends got old and sick and died in my arms while my vet helped them leave this world. One little old girl is still hanging in there with me. My little girl and I are both near the end of this journey, and because of them I can say what a wonderful journey it has been, filled with laughter and love and joy. Kristi Noem will never even begin to understand what she has missed. Shame on her is right.

We keep chickens on the outskirts of Portland OR. None of our neighborhood dogs have tried to jump the fence to go after them. Where does a politician who shoots her dog stop? There's a whole set of politicians who supported Trump, knowing full well that he was aiming to stay in power at any cost...to change our form of government into something that could protect him from what he'd already done. Now that set of politicians are in the same boat as Trump. Where would they stop?
God Bless you and the fur children. My fur children are my family because the humans passed away. The animals are nicer than my family members ever were so I feel they freed me from grief 2x. Its harsh to say but my family members were very difficult to everyone. I love the trait of a dog that if you are nice to me, I love you. You don't automatically get that from family at all. Humans think they are so damn important.

I took in a dog that was being groomed as a bait dog. He scared, he's needy, he's insecure and he's almost lashed out. He's 17mo old. He's a sweetheart but I just don't know how to let him know he's home. I'm in Texas. Any good trainers there?

I think you nailed it when you said it was her ego. She was embarrassed because the dog she says destroyed a hunt, but clearly this dog was not trained to hunt the way she wanted it to but also because of the attack on chickens in front of other people, and it embarrassed her. It was her ego entirely.

Retired Military here living in Germany and a Dog Trainer... What will the Gov. do next shoot her kid???? Would want to say a few things about this Woman. but 1st Amendment right enough said. I have three dogs. They are the joy of my life. My job is to treat them with love. When they see me outside and come running to me, with a smile on their face, (and yes, dogs can smile), it makes me so happy to have them in my life.
Yes they smile...can see it in their eyes too. Nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the unconditional love a dog wants to provide.

Didn't deserve to have a dog, or a goat, or horses, or chickens, or any animal.
I have three labs. One thing I've become convinced of, is that dogs are a whole lot more intelligent than we realize. If for no other reason, people should realize that they ought to treat dogs with respect, as well as kindness. Just because a dog is not a human being doesn't mean that a dog is not an important creature.
My family has hunting dogs. They can get into mischief if they don't have a job to do, so training is important to keep them busy and interested. We hide treats around the house so that they know their job is to smell and find things. Then they're introduced to the smell of a pheasant so that when we're out in the field they know their job is to find the scent of a pheasant and let us know. They're so happy and excited when they catch a scent but freeze in place to alert us. It takes patience to train a young dog but they are so eager to get it right and make their owner happy. Noem's story of Cricket made me cry. She spoke of the dog being joyful. Noem is hateful.
I had a pug who was absolutely wild. Had him since he was a puppy. I don’t have time to write a novel, but that little pisser marked everything plastic, was a horrific counter surfer, got into freaking everything, poisoned himself and my other dog two different times with things that were put away, snatched a bird out of midair.
He was my eternal puppy.
And at 14, when it came time, I spent my entire life savings knowing full well his cancer treatment would only extend his life by months. But he took on cancer like he did everything else in his life, with an indomitable spirit that nothing was going to stop him from what he wanted to do. He broke the record for living with hermangiosarcoma by 2 months.
Most dogs with treatment don’t make it past 3 months. He made it 9.
THATS what a hard to train dog gets you. One hell of a companion.
