Magical Pop'n is important in my gaming life because it and DoReMi Fantasy were the two games to spark my interest in Japanese imports. The game itself is the very definition of solid, an all time favorite of mine, and an all time great.
I actually kinda love the voicing in this game. Goes great with the excellent sprite-animations to make the princess seem really alive and fun.
sad that it was criticized in Japan for being "too husky" : /
We need a crossover with Twinbee. Call it "Magical Pop'N' Twinbee."
Grachtnakk yeah rainbow bell adventures was fun but she could probably do a shoot em up too. Those moves could be the bombs. Magical pop'n is amazing before metroidvania became a thing. Hotkeys as snesdrunk said are awesome, hated that about spells in seiken densetsu 3. Probably should point those games and the guardian legend for those who still cry about needing female protagonists and act like samus is the only one #didnotdotheresearch
Or the somewhat under-rated "Lock's Quest" so we can have "Pop'n Lock's Quest".

if you were at Super Potato then yes. according to their website they sell obscure games for a high price if it's rare or in mint condition, just look at the price of Snow Bros. for the Sega Megadrive.i play Magical Pop'n (english patch) through Homebrew on Wii U.
You can always by a fan translated reproduction cartridge on Etsy for $20-$40.
use to play this game alot as a kid in bootleg handheld console that sell outside the japan.
What I love about this game is the simple but effective enemy AI. They will try to dodge or parry your attacks and respond to your movement.
Just played through this one. Thank you so much snes drunk! This game was so much fun! And one if the most beautiful snes games. I beat it first sitting, which was nice for a change. The game isn't so much easy as it is forgiving- i like that. Because of the cute vibe, i probably would have avoided it without your recommendation. Thanks again :)
I love this game. I first played it a couple of years ago on my Raspberry Pi. It's a real shame it was never officially released in the US.
HELL YA MAGICAL POP'N IS SO GOOD. I'm glad you've done a video on it. This game is amazing and it's an absolute crime it never came to the west.

Aaron Nicewonger it's uncommon but not rare back then. Just remembered the valis Games (though mediocre) and final fantasy 5 or include 6 if you don't care about needing a princess.
And there's the upcoming Battle Princess Madeline, developed by one guy and inspired by his little daughter who loves to watch him play Ghosts and Goblins.
Diego Zuñiga sure, that argument doesn't hold weight nowadays given the steam tag female protagonist. Circle games generally have all women casts too; wish legend of the dark witch 3 diversified with a guy.
I'm kimd of surprised you didn't mention how pricey the original cart is, because it's definitely one of the most expensive Super Famicom games I've seen.
I think it's number 2 after the champion that is Rendering Ranger R2. I once saw it for only 13000 yen(cart only) and I considered it but I had just bought Gimmick for 20000 so...
About the awesome Boss Music, a few other candidates that stuck in my mind ever since I played them as kid:
Plok, the Boss Music there is just INSANE!
Lufia 2, Sinistral Battle Theme, as if the game isn't already chock-full with banger OSTs, this one especially stands out
Secret of Mana, Thanatos Boss Theme, it was so unique and literally Dubstep before Dubstep was ever invented!
I needed this when I was a teen when SNES was "on and poppin'"

This is a really good game, and one that demands high prices due to its general rarity. I believe Marvelous (the company that does the Fate games and whatnot) owns the rights to this game currently, and they haven't done anything with it since. A re-release would be fantastic if we could convince them.

Collectors will want to be careful on eBay with this one. There are more repros than there are originals. Be sure to ask for PCB pictures before buying.

Why does Japan keep using "Pop'n" in their game titles?
It was just a buzzword in Japan in the early 90s .The SNES had Pop'n Twinbee and this game, but the Japanese version of this word (ポップン) saw lots of use in TV, music, anime etc. . You still see it from time to time (Check out Pop'n Music from Konami).
Because that's one of the coolest words in the Dictionary For Radikal Dudez.

Magical Pop'n is an awesome game. Not only are the controls super precise. Its a fast game and dat cute little girl can shoot hadoken's out of her a$$. Its just a marvelous game overall. If you platformer and adventures, this game should be for you.
This game could've done fairly well had it come to Western audiences back in the day, such a fun game.
Certainly would've sold better than the very bland Incantation, that's for sure.
I only discovered this game just last week. It is lots of fun and a nice challenge while still being a player friendly experience.
It feels like I'm watching a video that cures my amnesia because I'm pretty sure I've played this game when I was probably 4-5 years old but this game never triggers any of my memories when playing SNES games.
I got an Everdrive earlier this week, this was the first game I had played through. Had never played it until now. Great game!!

SNESDrunk, please help. I can't figure out what game I'm thinking of. It was either Looney Tunes or Tiny Toons. I think it was Tiny Toons. It had soccor in it and I'm not sure if it was mainly soccor or other sports like baseball. But it was awesome. Always appreciated!!

Looks great! Thought you might be interested, I live in Japan, but even here, this game is mega expensive. It costs about ¥30000 for a copy in ‘acceptable’ condition. I’ll keep hunting for a cheap cartridge!

This will sound insane but I bought this game on Ebay from Japan. It was expensive but I was happy to get it. I couldn't believe that I heard about this game from PeteDorr with some other Super Famicom games.
This game is really impressive and very smooth on its animation, sadly this is the most valuable Super Famicom Game there is reaching prices as of April 2023 of $570 USD loose, and $1,250 Complete, making it hard to have it physically, but there is always emulation with the English translation.

Hey SNESdrunk, great video as always. I spend hours with the autoplay going through your vids sometimes. Have you played Celeste? It's on consoles and steam. It's one of those kinda games that's like "best snes game that never was on the snes". It's one of the best platformers I've played. Almost like a puzzle game, with each screen a puzzle to be solved, and then you need skill to actually carry out the solution. Like shovel Knight and its DLC, but to the extreme with the platforming. The story is also one of the only games that talks about mental health
The controls and level design are some of the best I've played in a 2d platformer also. Every time you die it's your fault, not the game's

gaystatue Yeah I pretty much decide what to play based on his videos, as I have every snes and mega drive game on my tablet to play with a Bluetooth snes gamepad, but there's so many of them, loads of Japanese ones, and his videos are the best for finding out the gems in the sea of games. Yeah definitely play celeste. It might be my game of 2018. Many others say its the best game of 2018 too. Yeah if you like platformers at all then play it. It might seems daunting at first but it's a lot easier than it seems. You get infinite Lives, and when you die you go back to the beginning of that screen, not the whole level. It's very addictive and you keep wanting to try again. Also there's an "assist mode" that let's you turn on cheats like invincibility if you are really stuck on one bit. The controls are a bit like sonic when he's hyper sonic in sonic 3&k, where you can dash on mid air. I seriously love this game

the controls seems a bit floaty, though.
They're not really "floaty" but she is very fast, which can be hard to control until you get used to it.

I didn't like the controls tho, they feel so sloppy and everything moves so fast, it really should have tighter more precise controls
