    I really like how that exterior mdf sanded away those butt ends. I was going to try to make two of these using 45°s on all sides with my track saw and domino them together. Using this method with wood would drive me insane trying to hide that. I'll poke around for that exterior mdf..
    Whos idea was that vertical soffit material under the soffit.😱😱

    This is probably the best video on how to make these tapered columns, other videos I've seen is some guy with a woodworking shop with all these expensive tools, this guy just has regular tools like me. Also, I never thought of using exterior MDF, so that was cool but I saw the price of a sheet at $175, the non-exterior is only $59 so I will probably test my skills with a cheap version to work out the issues. Finally, I love watching this guy's video because he is so down to earth and funny. I bet he was a quirkysmart kid growing up. I'm a new subscriber now!

    I don’t know what the building codes are like. where you were building but they seem very lax. if that’s a loadbearing pole you would need more than to just toenails at the top and glued at the bottom. Onto a cement base with no L brackets or straps or hangers.😱

    • @TMPK
      @TMPK  Před rokem +3

      Yeah very few if any codes on that in rural Tennessee. Never had any issues with all the weight of the front porch holding them down. I’m not opposed to L brackets but sometimes they just don’t seem necessary. Until the tornado comes 😰

      It’s got some weird chemicals or something. Once you first cut into exterior mdf vs regular and you smell it, you’ll be like, oh this isn’t gonna rot for 10,000 years 🫢 obviously it hasn’t been around that long but I haven’t had any call backs about it in my 16 years of use 🤷‍♂️

    What about the entablature, Frieze, and Cornice. See Audels, Carpenter and Builders Guide if you want to know how old school carpenters would have done it. Your can find the information about scale, why is the bottom of the post the diameter it is? How does that relate to the top diameter, how high should the base be, etc... Not bad for a young man though. You can only go as far as you're taught.

    • @dominioncrowntv5197

      Most builders and GCs today do not care about that stuff anymore. It's just food for thought essentially these days. Old guys will argue with you but really most builders care about price per square foot and the profit margins not how well everything is proportioned. Me myself I love that stuff and wish we did it more but it's just a sad reality today, most people in construction do not seem to care about that stuff anymore..it's sad
