  • I take a solo trip to a pond and fish for stocked rainbow trout. I’m using 10 pound braid with a 1-2 ounce weight and about 2 feet of 8 pound mono leader line that goes to a size 8 hook. For bait we are using green and pink power eggs.

    This video brings me joy; enough so that I stopped to log in an comment.
    To see somebody fish, and be happy when catching, and not catching is really cool.
    And, sliding egg weights, with a barrel swivel at the right place would avoid misses.
    But, good on you for showing the misses; and catches; and the joy of bank fishing.

    Awesome video bud you have a similar method I use except where your going wrong is your weight. Not about the size but the type of weight if you had an egg sinker or bullet weight it would slide leaving that fish room to run without feeling any weight which will land you a more aggressive strike and I guarantee you won’t miss to many. The trout are very sensitive fish and have high visibility if they feel anything heavy they get spooked but overall love the video keep doing what your doing good stuff ✨🎣📈🙏🏼‼️

      +1 on the egg sinker. I run a size 10 Eagle Claw gold bait holder hook on a 2’-3’ 6lb fluorocarbon leader to a barrel swivel with a 1/4-1/2oz free sliding egg sinker above that on 6 lb line of your choice, for castability purposes. I typically use Natural Scent Garlic Berkeley Power Bait. Just enough to float the hook above the weeds. A 7’ ultralight spinning rod is a blast with this setup! I can’t remember the last time I didn’t limit out within a few hours at most, usually within a half hour to an hour though. Great video!

    I would say keep the smaller size hooks you started with and then use a smaller weight. I think an one once weight is too heavy for the fish you are going after. And when you put the Powerbait on the hook leave more of the hook exposed; use no more than two power eggs

    I been fishing a pond they put trout in for 3 weeks now. I just cleaned trout I caught Tuesday . Ditch the bell ! trout aren't catfish. Just watch your lines like hawk. Keep 2 rods close with in quick grab reach. The less weight the better. Sliding sinkers help.smaller baits too. I use powerbait , worms, spinners, But trout love corn! Corn often produces when all else fails .It's cheap, works a lot,but is not magic. When trout are super tricky no weight and 1 kernel of corn will trick them.
    Also if you know the govt stocked them don't just give up after a week. A lot of people just say.."they must have caught them all." And quit Meanwhile I am in the rain and cold filling my freezer and saving money on food.

    Liking your video but I have a tip for you , , if you'll use it try instead of fixing a weight to your main line even an egg weight, instead run a snap swivel on your main with a bead then your swivel and hook length, stick to a size 10 single hook, thing is casting to where you are in this video can easily be done with a 1/16 , the little drop weight can clip to your snaplink you want further out put on a 1/4 oz or bigger... or if you're fishing the margins no weights at all . You can very slow retrieve and hit them in the lip , or just leave it static, ut yhe static bite you get , l pick up your rod hold it out making more slack and wait for the fish to make its move , as your line sails out don't strike just wind up and hold a bend in your rod fish will hook itself plenty,. I fish league and competition always trout and win more than my share , tight lines from Scotland

    first off your rig works but is better off suited for a heavy current area i use 1 ounce weights for pier fishing in the great lakes... I would use a carolina rig that way the line slides through the weight with a 3/8 oz to 1/2 oz barrel weight and a bead tied to a small swivel with a 8inch to 24 inch leader with a size 12 hook sometimes i use a size 16 or 18 hook extremely small. the best rig for powerbait... with the 1 oz weight the fish are feeling the weight when they go to swim off with you bait and letting go as well i find if my leader is to long I lose fish as well. Im going out in the morning to do the same thing trout season just opened today in my area

      how do you take a bobber off when he's no using 1

  • @grumby111
    @grumby111 Před 2 lety +1

    Look up a Carolina rig... you can use a barrel swivel, bead, 4# seaguar tatsu for fluorocarbon mainline, sliding sinker 1/8 to 1/4 Oz., and a size 18 or 20 treble hook. If you plan to keep them, then those finicky trout will inhale these tiny hooks and can't let go. Gamakatsu and owner hooks are strong and incredibly sharp. Night and day difference with this rig vs a rig with heavy weights and large hooks. With such a smooth line and like braided line, I'd use a double Palomar knot as well.
    FYI- ultralight gear is the way to go for trout. They're better to cast light bait and much more sensitive to feel very slight nibbles or action.

      @SMP Lol... want some brownie points? Anyways, you can use whatever you want. I like using my setup because it's also simple to readjust. I also like using very light line. Also, I like to cast towards the middle of a lake. You need some weight to cast and sink towards the bottom of a lake. I don't know where you're fishing, but I'm not bank fishing.

    Some heathy looking fish! No stringer? You can kill them and shove a stick about 3-4ft long through the gills and lay them shaded shallow water. Trout have soft mouths and braided line has no cushion. If they are less hungry and just nibbling, your heavy weight will mask some hits. I would use 2-4 lb green Maxima monofilament which acts like shock absorber and the least weight possible to detect more hits and lose less fish on the shallow hook sets. Or use a casting bobber 6ft up the line and let the wind or current send it further out.

    Ok for as starters, you need to understand that your weight size and it's placement matters even though you told us it doesn't. The setup you used was by all means wrong, I'm sitting here cringing as you continued to screw up. Look not everyone is taught right you will do so much better if you take a 1/4th ounce egg sinker and slide it up your line then a red bead followed by a barrell swivel. Ok personally I like using a eagle claw or Gamugatsu treble hook on your leader I'm saying a eight or ten size hook. Put one piece of chartreuse or yellow power bait and if your main line fills your main line off your reel that quarter ounce weight Is perfect at that place keep a bow in your line so that when the bow picks the power bait he can swim for a few feet without feeling any resistance. Trust me you would of had you limit of plants in half the time.Good luck kid
