  • Say hello to Howard Ritchie's review on the stylish and thoroughly reworked Toyota C-HR. This completely refreshed crossover is aiming to take on the likes of the Volkswagen T-Roc and Honda HR-V with fresh looks, an updated interior and a range of updated hybrid drivetrains.
    1.8-litre and 2.0-litre self-charging options are offered, along with a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid model. The latter is capable of 41 miles on electric power alone. You can consider the C-HR crossover version of the popular Prius. But we'd go for the C-HR every time. Howard took one for a spin to explain why and goes into detail on ten need-to-know things about this clever hybrid model.

    This was such an enjoyable review to watch! I love this guys sense of humour. Also love seeing little glimpses of England and the cold weather (cold weather loving Australian here). Also so fascinating that the car is inspired by diamonds and the build quality is top notch because it insulates well.

    I have the 1.8L self-charging design spec of this car, and overall, it's been a very positive experience. It's incredibly comfortable to drive, and 500 miles in, I've averaged 60 mpg (UK). However, there are a few quirks that I've noticed along the way.
    For starters, syncing trip data to the app requires you have to be stationary in park and click the privacy screen three times, otherwise, the trip data gets lost! The motor that drives the wipers are super noisy (as is the boot opening and closing), and the rear screen tends to fog up easily, which can be frustrating, especially considering there's no rear wiper. We've had so much rain in the UK lately, yes it does need a rear wiper!
    Visibility out of the rear is rather limited, and the reversing camera's in the design spec has poor resolution nothing better than my previous Juke. Another annoyance is the constant beeping - whether it's for going just a mile over the speed limit or changing speed zones, the alerts can get a bit excessive. The major crash alert has come on a couple of times, when there's no way I was going to crash - just driving normally during busy school runs.
    There's quite a few other minor annoyances. Sometimes randomly the alarm sounds for 5 seconds when locking the car. Every other drive it sends the app an alert to check the rear seats and if you turn off the alerts for those darn bleeps, it's reset the next time you start the car. When reversing, the screen does not always show the radar when approaching objects you could hit.
    When a couple of passengers are in the rear, the 1.8L engine feels like it struggles and boy does it growl, like driving a Ferrari growl. Other than that the 1.8 engine is fine esp in busy town driving.

    Seems to be the perfect car for people who don't really like driving. But that they still need a car to get from "A" to "B" because, let's face it. Who likes using the bus? 🤔😬
    _However._ And this isn't just about this car or Toyota, but applies to all car makers.
    *When is someone going to make a "tracked (Not a wheeled/tired!) hatchback" to cope with all the £¬(%ing huge potholes we have to endure on the terrible British roads today?*

    • @datathunderstorm
      @datathunderstorm Před 2 měsíci +15

      It doesn’t have a CVT Transmission. It’s described as an e-CVT only because is mimics a CVT gearbox. There’s actually NO gearbox. No, I’m not joking. It has a planetary gear set mated to a power split device. Ergo, the transmission is completely step less and ultra reliable. Zero issues expected. There’s no mechanical reverse gear cogs - reverse is accomplished via the joystick gear lever - and the electric traction motors reverse polarity and push the car backwards. Does this voodoo magic / alien technology (reverse engineered at Area 51) scare you? It shouldn’t. It’s ultra reliable. The same tech has been in use in my 2008 2nd Gen Prius Tspirit. It still runs flawlessly after 15+ years using the ORIGINAL drivetrain. Now at 154k miles. It’s a Toyota - not a Ford Eco boost. You have nothing to fear.

      I've owned the first generation C-HR when it was released over 6 years ago, and have never once used the rear wiper at all, as I find it unnecessary. I have driven it plenty of times in the rain too.
