    The man was fired flat out because Discovery thought he was too old, yet he drives better than most reviewers I've seen less than half his age (plus he inspires me as it makes me feel I can still have fun when I get to his years).
    Stupid move, Discovery. You got rid of a legend for flat out ageism. THIS VIDEO WAS EPIC!

    Probably a fantastic everyday car, I'd imagine. Still, it's amazing that Tiff can deliver this sort of honest conclusion to a car as important as this in 2021. What a legend he is.

      No one calls out the truth that the 7th gen GTi is an absolutely shitty car, because of the fear of getting blacklisted by VW Group. Which means you get blacklisted by Lambo, Bugatti, Audi, Bentley and the others.

    Most GTIs will be daily drivers for motorway commute, driving to the shops and occasionally hammering on a b-road that is why they are great cars because do everything well. Plug in a laptop and 300+ bhp along with reprogramming ESC, etc

    Incredible Tiff. And eight years before, I still love my mk7 Gti. And 25 years before, still love my mk2 Gti 16v. I don't understand why some people hate it.

    I have VW Golf 6 and still, I am proud of it. I have never seen a car like that it runs like a plane, so smooth and full of power. Handing & stability control is brilliant.

    I had a MK 5 GTI which was a fantastic car. I sold it to a friend when it had 290,000 km on the dial. He still has it now with 400,000 km on the dial. 🥶Cheers!

      Tiff is a nice guy and all but after a tv show is filmed and the presenters get paid, the show is owned by the tv station not the presenters. TBF we don't know what royalties deal the presenters had in their contracts. Also if the camera or a sound guy who filmed this was fired too should they also keep getting paid? Pointless comment.

    So on the road hes got DSG, on the track it's a manual. All exterior shots is the manual (same plates atleast) and the sound is from DSG. Nice editing ;)

      I still have my 2008 MKV GTI, purchased new, and I cannot see any reason to upgrade. I'm 70 now, so don't hoon around much any longer, but I still love the sound the engine makes compared to most other 4 pot engines. Stage 1 tune, dogbone upgrade, Whiteline rear sway bar and it's perfect for me :)

    You can fully disable the stability control with third party tools that fiddle with the onboard computer settings

      You can also pull the green 30 amp fuse in the engine bay 😄

      I saw him do a review of a shite Freelander vs a Nissan X-trail, forever ago, that was so biased towards the Freelander and inaccurate with the comparable specs, it made me wonder how much he was paid by Land Rover. Generally though, most excellent.

    Give Tiff he’s Job back 5th gear went dead because it wasn’t keeping things fresh not because of Tiff he was the show the Clarkson of the show great Tv presenter bring him back and make the show fresh then it will be better then Top gear nick Chris Harris 😂 then it’s on to a winer 🥂👏🏾👍🏾👊🏽

    Car manufacturers are in a bind when it comes to the safety programs in the cars. In some countries they are required to be able to be sold in some parts of the world. It would be nice to be able to turn it off, and I am sure there is some way to do so, for 99.9% of people buying these Golf's??? Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few when it comes to pinching pennies.😎Great car though.

    Unpopular opinion, but I can see why fifth gear got rid of Tiff. He was too focused on track rather than road focused reviews. Especially when you can actually fully disable the ESP if you hold the button down for 5 seconds.

      @@dry509 MX5, is a great car, ive just done a track day in mine and it performed very well, and its a standard car, no tune ups yet. There are loads of those in America, ive subscribed to a guy from Texas on CZcams who posts loads of videos of the work he has done on his MX5.

      @@dry509 Ford fiesta ST is the best they all say for over here in America. Not the fastest stock, but the most fun by far. Plus it's cheap. The golf is known as the least fun, most spirit killing.

    I still can't stand this review. Just because you can't disable traction control completely on the track doesn't mean squat to 99.9% of drivers. The GTI is great because it does many things well. It's a great all-rounder, but he didn't touch on that at all. The only thing frustrating about the car was Tiff's review. That said, Tiff is awesome, and I love to watch his reviews (most of the time).

      I agree. It seems that Tiff just had the wrong expectation of what the GTI is. it was never a track weapon nor it should have been. It would have probably ruined the ride. But I believe in the new GTI vw actually allows for the stability control to be fully disabled. Still, the MK7 is the best GTI they have made.

Every road was a track. 😆 You could easily get that thing standing on 3 wheels and throw it around at relatively safe speeds, stamp on the brakes mid corner and it would forgive you. I learned to steer on the throttle at high speeds in that car and that is exactly what Tiff is talking about here. Are they carrying on with that tradition with this car? Probably not…I reckon those days are over.

    I would suggest that if you want a racing car for the track Tiffney then buy a racing car, don’t expect a Grand touring car to be a hot hothatch when it wasn’t intended to be one. The Gti is top of the pile at what it does.

    No real enthusiast with a turbo car is going to keep it stock. So the real question is how does this version respond to mods? Can you get that chassis control switched off in a tune? For all the other customers this is irrelevant. Bring back Tiff.

      I'm from Canada and I never owned a FWD car (and I never will). We have seasons and imperfect roads so I use AWD. Will never downgrade, especially given how EVs can easily be equipped with symmetrical AWD systems.

      Always prefered rwd or 4wd but after having a Clio RS 172 (FWD) as my first car and a BMW 325i coupe E92 as my 2nd car i changed my mind as the RS was a much better car to drive. BMW had the correct wheel drive and made the right 6 pot noises but just felt mushy slow and heavy in comparison. It's not all in the driven wheels.

    What a heap of shit. Its a Gti ffs, its not supposed to be nanny state safe -its supposed to be fun and thrilling. Makes me laugh the way these manufactures keep making cars more and more powerful while taking away the experience with all their driver aids (to stop em getting sued). 217 bhp completely pointless coz u cant use it properly. Back in the day 115 did the job coz u were the car not one of Siri or Alexas effing mates

    I stopped watching fifth gear because it’s views are outdated, euro-biased -90’s stereotype driven while never talks about reliability when70% of buyers buy a used vehicle and reliability is of utmost importance. You don’t get reliability from a VW, BMW after 50KMiles. Fact. The golf engine and all tsi tfsi fsi engines will fail even with regular driving style. A Honda Civic will have its first oil leak when a golf goes through an engine replacement and half the market-value.
