The pull-the-key-out-of-the-ignition feature is so you can open your garage door without stopping the car, then restarting the car after the door is open. That is, if you don't have a remote door opener, and have your garage door key on on the same ring as your car key. My 85 Oldsmobile 88 had the same feature.
Such a great interior. I miss those instrument panels that were exclusive to the driver, and not spread out all over the dash like today's cars. Nice car!
The velour interiors were the best. Everyone’s afraid of grandpa cars now. It’s so frustrating when you have chronic pain. Sure, it could do with a 200+ hp engine, but I love that it’s a “boat.” Nobody cares about comfort anymore.
@@simon5005 What gadgets? the seat configuration is much better than anything in luxury cars today, which are jammed down the side of the seat. It doesn't even have keyless entry.
1993 was the last year for the "square body" Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave/Imperial. Which was a stretched version of the Chrysler New Yorker Salon/Dodge Dynasty. Those cars appealed to the AARP crowd. That was the year Chrysler introduced the aero body LH cars like the Concorde and Dodge Intrepid. Sometime in 1993, Chrysler introduced the stretched LHS/New Yorker as 1994 models. I heard the transmissions in those cars were trouble-prone.
Which was the highest end model for the 93? The 5th Ave? I remember the 80s non 5th ave had digital dash. The 5ths didn’t. Was the Salon the highest? Obviously the Imperial was the highest from what I remember but of the velour interior Yorker/5ths, I mean.
This was a boat to him back 2009. He didn't know a thing about cars as compared to today. He was clueless. Since then he's driven Town Cars, 50's American cars, etc. He knows what a boat is today lol
My mom used to have a 1990 New Yorker Fifth Ave after trading up from a big boat mid 80's model. First of its kind with a driver's side Air bag, LED lights on the corner telling you which doors are ajar, the motorized pinch proof trunk feature, premium Infinity audio system minus a CD deck, but still sounded top notch, electronic push button climate and HVAC controls (only my current 2012 Ford Focus has similar push button controls that rival what the New Yorker has), spirited V6 engine that had decent horsepower and acceleration, plush and supple seats and high end interior this side of an Oldsmobile Cutlass..this car had it all.
My Grandma had a New Yorker and it was the bomb....The Owner of the chrysler corp. would say your door is ajar and i was like "this car is MAGIC!" now i want one sooo badly.
i had a 90 lebaron the same type of car like this new yorker.. with the mitsubishi 3.0 with a few mods... i used to get the old pig up to 120 on the freeway ..i loved that car
the ignition key lock is probably jammed or was removed. this is normal and this happened on my '90 lebaron which used the same type of Chrysler ignition but it would start without a key also but i had a fuel cut off switch under my seat so nobody could steal it
I had the same car. we replace the radio for something better. But we gave that car to my pastor. he needed that car than we do. I got to say, I miss that car now
That thing is a boat! lol, not as much as my grandfather's 93 Deville, that baby had a 4.9 liter V8 and it would really move! These 3.3s aren't too shabby either, they move a heavy FWD car pretty well.
kyle stephens yeah 19 years, my brother ended up wrecking it in the school parking lot around 2012 bit lucky she had it 19 years before my brother had it for a year
@sideburns2009 my crownvic p71 did this.. BUT was designed to, it was a cop car after all. only 1 key runs the whole thing. so run car, pull key out while car is running, can get into trunk or whatnot
The last years with the nice interiors before cheap grey and black plastic took over. I remember hating these cars because they were so tiny but compared to todays cars they look gorgeous...very nice riding cars too altho small engines and front wheel drive.
Only the FWD New Yorker brand 83-87 talked, the NY 5TH Ave was RWD 83-89, & didn't have the Audible Warning System (talking computer) installed. I had an 85, white w/red int. and I loved it. Others like LeBaron, & GTS, Dodge Lancer ES & 600 ES had limited English warnings & Thank You after. Coupes like Laser XE/XT , Daytona Z had more warnings & pinged format after. If it had Turbo, it spoke. The Spanish & French units made it till 89. I loved mine. Each had a off switch n Glove Box roof hole.
i like the cushiony interior of these cars & the traditional styling but i feel like the GM & Ford Luxury Offerings of this time were superior....not being biased but its just my honest opinion.
the key thing, yea thats not a feature. its a worn lock cylinder, extremely worn out key, or a worn ignition switch. its not suppose to do that and my grandpa's '93 new yorker fifth avenue. which by the way has the most comfortable seats of any 17 year old car i've sat in.
Saabkyle04 you looked very young back then. I like the video quite a lot. Lol I don’t have very much memory of my younger self as I’m 18 now and a adult but I am subscribed to you. Amazing video anyway! 🙂
@saabkyle04 I had a Chevrolet pickup that did that. If you didn't turn the ignition clear back to the "lock" notch, you could actually start it without the key. It was actually very handy, yet you could turn it to the lock setting, and you had to have a key.
My mother had a 98 Chrysler Sebring that had the same worn out ignition. Maybe it's a Chrysler thing? Her car had only 75K miles on it at the time. We found out when she took a fast left turn and the keys flew at my face!
Yeah its a shame that the 90's New Yorker Fifth Avenue dont talk anymore....i loved when my parents had this old one that would talk...but well, the motor was so little that it was barely moving the car...not a problem with the 3.3 v6 on the 91' Fifth Avenue :)
Just like 98% of all Chryslers in the 90's, this is an overgrown K car. Now, I happen to have liked my K cars back in the day (great $100 winter bets in NY) and they had pretty tough drivetrains. Everything else fell apart. LOL. Same interior as the Dynasty! Aries, Reliant, Spirit, Sundance, Shadow, Voyager, Caravan, Daytona, Laser (not the Plymouth), 600, 400, Lebaron, Acclaim, New Yorker.... you get the idea
This is a 1993 Chrysler New Yorker with OVERDRIVE! Overdrive is a nice feature that slows your engine speed down to save you gas on the freeway, since that is fourth gear, not that I would use the overdrive feature on those little roads that the guy in this video was driving. He was driving too slow for fourth gear and I would have moved the shifter to third gear to stop the gear hunting between the top two gears.
I have the same car with a 3.8 litre engine. It has white exterior and the exact same interior yours has. You should have white walls on a luxury car like that. Those black walls with writing on them look all wrong.
they actually do, I have a 92 new yorker, and all tire shops in my area sell them for my car, though that might be in part because I live in Michigan, about half an hour away from Detroit.
@orbitofdoom16 you are pretty much wrong. out of all the chrysler's in my family, i've yet to see one have an ignition switch go bad. this car was a '93, that key was probably worn as hell.
unless the temperature gauge in that car is broken, i'd advise not being so heavy on the gas when the engine's cold. that goes for like every car ever.
I had one of these as my daily driver in 2013, and about five years before that, a 1993 Dodge Dynasty, which is essentially the same thing. It sucks, though...because I'd love to have another one, and these cars are luxurious, stylish, opulent, comfortable, practical, easily parkable, get 18-25 mpg or more (which isn't half-bad), presentable, rare yet affordable...they have everything I want and need in car, save length, width, weight, V8 engines, RWD, and carburetion. (My last few cars have all been relatively short, narrow, light,. V6-engined, front-wheel-driven, and fuel-injected...hence, just for the difference alone, I'd like to get something big, long, wide, heavy, V8-engined, rear-wheel-driven, and carbureted....albeit, I sure have a special place in my heart for these 1988-1993 Dodge Dynasties and Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenues, even if they all gave me numerous headaches and heartaches and carlessness in the end! Still, I love these Mopar hat-cars, even if they are the only Chrysler products I've ever owned....and, did Plymouth ever make an equivalent to the Dynasties and the New Yorker Fifth Avenues? I know there's the Sundance, but that's more similar to a Dodge Shadow than to a Dynasty or New Yorker! I guess I am really asking because, beyond pure and simple curiosity, I want to get the Plymouth version, if there is one, as I've already had the Dodge and Chrysler renditions!)
None of mine had the leather interior, though. And, my 1993 Dodge Dynasty (which, along with the 1993 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue I had, were and still are the newest CARS I've ever had; Albeit, I have had a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado K-2500 before), although white on the outside, had a very similar interior and upholstery to this Chrysler New Yorker...same blue with the "wood" paneling and everything! :)
@SCSNSE plushy cloth? you must have never sat in the seats of a new yorker with leather. most comfortable seats i've ever been in. cushy and soft leather, i could sleep in them.
That key problem exists on Fords as well and on Chevys you can start them without keys. Chevy can recall this, Ford and Chrysler can take the easy way because they cant start without keys.
