    Nice video, John! Regarding your comment about using IBIS with this lens...I assume you mean when hand-holding (not on a tripod), because I was under the impression that when using IBIS while camera is on the tripod, it could actually induce slight blur. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. (Besides, I always shoot tripod-mounted, using the self-timer to totally eliminate any vibration from either hand or shutter release.) Thanks!

      Thank you! Yeah I meant if using handheld. Sorry I should have been more specific there. No need for stabilisation if it's going to be in trips

    Hello, 100mm is 150mm on a crop, but what does this affect?

  • @Baking_baked
    @Baking_baked Před 2 lety

    I have a sony 90mm g that i strictly use in studio and sometimes at the park but mostly on a tripod. But i do sometimes feel limited with it. I know full on that the lens is ridiculously nice for photography that i tend to not do. So I’m curious to anyone who has switched or run both to know what their thoughts are. Please note. I don’t shoot portraits so I’m strictly talking macro or ultra macro.
    I’m also looking into the 25mm 2-5x

  • @rui7773

    Do you think that the ibis for example of the canon R7 would provide stabilization for this lens?

  • @TimberCODE

    is that a Leofoto tripod? looks like a LN-324 to me :)
    I was hoping you will show the difference between 1:1 and 2:1... I am thinking to get this lens and your review just pushing me forward :) You mentioned the Tripod Collar... does this lens have one?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety +2

      YES it is!! It's a solid tripod! I can always rely on it. The tripod collar is an additional accessory so if you get the lens, you need to buy it as well.

    • @TimberCODE
      @TimberCODE Před 4 lety

      I have the same tripod and love it... also have the LS-324 for my bike rides as that one is ultra compact since no center column. One more thing I noticed is one of the samples is a 10 piso coin :) Are you pinoy? ;)

      @@JohnSisonPhotography Excellent! I have and love the Leofoto LN-254CT tripod and built-in panning head! A very solid, robust tripod that works great with a Nikon Z7 and up to ( at least in my experience) a Nikkor AP-S 70 - 300 f/4.5-5.6 zoom. Highly recommended!

    Thanks John, great review! What is the workflow for focusing on Sony mount? Fully open aperture - nail focus - stop down - expose every single time?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      I actually never stop it down because the dof field will be too shallow. I usually go F5.6-F8 and focus using focus magnifier.

    Curious if you can check whether yours has "focus creep" when focusing at minimum distance (x2) pointing up? i.e. it will slowly gradually move slightly down. Mine does it, one other person said theirs doesn't. Trying to find several others before I make the long drive to replace it. Thanks!

    How do you like it as compared to the Sony 90mm macro lens e.g. for insects ? Sony has the OSS, AF & Focus Limiter, but Laowa has 2x, low CA.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography

      Marahil ay pupunta ako sa isa sa mga lente ngunit depende ito sa kung ano ang nais mong kunan ng larawan. kung ang macro nito para sa mga insekto, ang laowa 100mm ay ang aking puntahan upang maging sanhi ng distansya sa pagtatrabaho.

    Will getting the EF Version and using the MC-11 Adapter allow you to control the aperture and get data? It may be the better way to go other than getting the e-mount... Oh boy the AF hunting at 5:00 is a bit rough.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      Haha so it was noticeable huh? lol 😅Yeah too much reliance on AF when I'm not in the middle of the frame and with wrong settings whilst filming by myself. To be honest, I'm not too sure about that one but that's a good question! I'm going to find out for you!

    • @ioandragulescu6063
      @ioandragulescu6063 Před 4 lety

      well, if you already have the adapter ... there are a number of ppl using that combo and it seems to be working properly. But if you don't have it ....than it's about adding almost 50% more to the total price. Decisions decisions :) I just got the E mount "basic" one, I'll see what happens

    • @0ooTheMAXXoo0
      @0ooTheMAXXoo0 Před 4 lety

      It will work even with cheaper adapters that do not handle AF well. The Sony FE mount version weighs less than the EF lens and adapter put together.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography

      I reckon it will get inside the glass somehow for sure if you don't use a filter. Especially if the front element goes in and out with the way it's designed.

  • @MOAB-UT

    Good tips. Lose the distracting music or lower it- a lot. Wonky focus going on at 5:20. Will TTL work on my Nikon D5500? All manual- no contacts. Don't have your mic pressed up against your shirt- hard to hear you. My Nikon does NOT have stabilization- nor does this lens. Will that be an issue?
    Tip to anyone- visit their website. You can see specific galleries for each lens which is super helpful. You are right, the 100 has great bokeh. I was going to get the 60 but not after comparing the galleries.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety +1

      To be honest, I haven't tried the 60mm yet but this will give you some breathing room when trying to focus on a subject that is a bit further away from your camera.

    • @0ooTheMAXXoo0
      @0ooTheMAXXoo0 Před 4 lety +1

      I have been using the 60mm for years. I have also researched getting a longer macro lens. The 100mm is made for full frame while the 60mm is made for APS-C. The 60mm will cover the image plane of a full frame camera unless you are focusing at longer distances. However, up close there is quite a bit of distortion outside of the APS-C area. I also see a very little bit of chromatic aberrations with the 60mm while the 100mm is really apochromatic. The 60mm on my crop camera has been great. Super sharp but still smooth Bokeh, even stopped down. The 100mm looks great, one of the best in image quality for any brand, any price. 60mm comes close but with a few more caveats.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      I love its sharpness! It does take some getting use to. Shooting handheld requires a really steady hand which is why I think a tripod would be better suited for this lens or pretty much any macro lens to be honest.

    Im thinl about getting a macro lens. What do you think between this lens and sigma 105mm? Thanks

  • @stefan_becker
    @stefan_becker Před 4 lety

    The two most important things about this lens are that it's an APO lens and that it's manual focus. You did not explcitly mention the apochromatic correction at all. That means it has clearly superior optical quality compared to the Sony 90mm. APO lenses are usually impressive performers because of the absence of longitudinal chromatic aberrations. If you have the chance, try the Voigtländer 65mm f2 Macro APO Lanthar or the 50mm f2 Apo Lanthar. Those are probably the sharpest lenses for Sony FE mount at the moment. So apochromatic correction is highly desireable, but unfortunately not found too often these days.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  Před 4 lety

      You know what? I actually thought I mentioned about the APO in my intro but I didn't include it on this take 😑🤦‍♂️ My fault on that one but yes, quality wise, the APO feature of this lens makes it amazing for results and picture quality.
