Back in the day I bought a white 'S' reg 2 door 1100cc Mk2 Escort 'pop' for £1,800. It had black bumpers and 12 inch wheels with chrome hubcaps and was shod in crossply tyres! I spun it on the motorway once during an unexpected blizzard and the following day got a new set of 155x12 radials. I also drove it around Scotland in 1981. I still think it looked gorgeous and regret selling it almost 40 years ago.

Wonderful idea to film that MK2 🤩😍 as you said shame about the respray job 🤭 . That's exactly why I'm trying to pick up all the secrets of spraying before I can attempt my first try. But at least I know that you should strip everything down and engine out to have full proper respray job done properly and gain better access will make the job easier even if it will take longer as it's more time consuming.
At least he is in the right hands now to have the job done professionally. Very lucky man.

That looks like Signal Yellow, which was a colour only available on the sporty Fords. A friend of mine has a mk4 Cortina 2.3S in the same colour, which is currently undergoing a ground-up restoration. Daytona Yellow, which was available on the more cooking mk2s, was a paler shade, that was the colour that a friend's 1300L 2-door was, it was his first car and was properly genuine all round as it had been his grandparents car from brand new in 1976 up until someone drove into the back of it. He rebuilt the back end, using all genuine Ford panels, as you could still get them for little money back in 1990, and he ran it well into the 2000s as daily transport. He still has it now, but it's high days and holidays wheels now, and not for sale, ever as his kids want to take it over...
Being as this was originally beige, this probably had a brown vinyl roof originally, so whoever had it painted probably changed that too. I guess they had good intentions, but it would probably have been worth more left original...

Brings back memories we used to use them as winter cars and just abuse them back in the late 90’s when you could be fussy with £600 😂 I remember knocking a 4 door back that was £250 how silly was I? The 4 doors seem to be commanding money now and as with all old cars the things you where not keen on back in the day seem now to be cool. I definitely wouldn’t be going beige though 😂

What a lovely little Mk 2. Yes I'd agree with you I'd have one before a Ferrari or Lambo. Whether I'd have it in front of my beloved foci I dunno! Speaking of which, a couple of things to say.
In '03 I got a brochure from a trade stand at Ford fair, the firm was called Phoenix and were based at Binbrook raf base in Lincolnshire, i had knowledge of the base (home to lightenings I think, sorry not a plane buff only cars and A4 steam locos😁🚂🚄) as my uncle was a an air traffic person there, and lived in nearby Louth if you've ever heard of it. (also an interesting coincidental twist in "steam" circles a dismantled steamy has been involved in a legal wrangle on that site.
Anyway this phoenix fella was buying up original, sound but tired mk 2s and ones in Malta. Importing them here, fitting new components and zetec 1.6,1.8 and 2.0 engines, in them, it sounded great but I was concerned bout parts etc and where and who to service it for me, so played safe (but happy) with my 02(year old at the time) Tdci.
Also speaking of foci, I've sent a letter off to Autocar this week relating to news Ford have indicated there won't be a new RS version of the current Focus, I've indicated my dismay and included pictures of the 03 I think Ford fair, with a homemade Focus RS (with a twist) (which is me n wife's dream car), with full engine and running gear from an Escort Cosworth!!! . The car was brand new, for sale at 16k I think (what a bargain) with white Oz alloys, but finished absolutely superbly. The full interior of RS foci was fitted, including the trimmed obvs full length transmission tunnel. It looked like it had come straight from the factory and even had focus "cosworth" badging. I wonder what happened to it.
When I win the lottery, you can make me one, with the various other motors in the list, starting with one of the 77 TransAm International Firebirds, based like the original on the Chevrolet Camaro, with extensive modifications such as a 700bhp supercharged V8, but most importantly with a signature on the dash from one Burton Reynolds, the car in question being a "Bandit" edition resplendent in Black and Gold with re manufactured (bit like the mk2s 4 spokes tonight) snowflake alloys. Anyway back to reality, keep up the good work. Ben 🚄🚂😁🦄👍

Been watching your channel for a while, but definitely subscribed now, as every upload you do is quality.
Not sure why anyone would cut so many corners spraying a classic like this. Maybe he didn't have the room to store all of the trim, engine, etc to do a proper bare shell respray.
When I was young, I had at least 10 Mk2 escorts, and I had 4 engines in/out of one on a saturday, so I know it doesn't take long to completely gut a shell, they are very basic and simple to strip down.

I do like the MK2 Escorts, I prefer them much more than the MK1's. I have owned both in the past. If I was to add to my cars (we have three, a Jaguar XJ, Range Rover Vogue and a TVR 280 Series 1) I would have a MK2 RS2000 all day long, I love them.
