As someone with mental health issues growing up that’s now an adult being treated for them. I did. When I was 12 and 13 I didn’t understand the severity of my words or why they were wrong that was me then. NOW I do and I would never. I’ve spent my time growing and making up to the black community . But I did say awful things…not even just to them but homophobic stuff too they were a result of my parents negligence and lack of emotional intelligence and some self inflicted Criticism as I am gay myself.The only thing I can do from here is right my wrongs. I can’t go back and hit 13 year old me in the face.

Big pet peeve of mine when these are called docs. They’re way too opinionated and biased to be docs and the research doesn’t extend further than what’s on the internet. Docs usually are objective as they present facts. These flow with the tide as mob mentality dictates.
I agree, I have attention issues and usually can’t focus on videos this long, and have to skip around or get overwhelmed and move on to something else. I usually watch swoop videos all the way through though.

This reminds me of when my kids were little, son 2 and daughter 5. I taught them to apologize/say sorry if they hurt each other. My son at the time, took this to mean he could hit his sister anytime and it’ll be okay as long as he apologize…☺️ As a grown man/woman, if you have to make more than 2 apology videos, it loses the meaning…
A lot of influencer apologies also make me think of how when I was a kid "apology" just meant "self-flagellate because if you're not crying you're not sorry enough and I'll make you sorrier". I feel like at some point we should maybe look into that, if everyone's immediate response to a call out is fear.
Jeffree isn’t dumb. Everything is so calculated and done with purpose. We get an “apology” 3 weeks later new collection comes out. Whether it’s good or not people buy it to either hate on it or because they Stan him still. Jeffree knows his customer base has diminished because of his actions. So he has no choice but to distance himself and get people back in his corner.

the gold double staircase reminds me of those art pieces of Christ where his halo is made of of background and scenic elements, the set makes it look like he's giving himself the illusion of having a halo, like he's trying to use iconographic imagery to impress upon his viewers, who most often have grown up in a christian based society and are familiar with that imagery, that he is a pillar of good and truth.

i wish people knew more about color language- it may sound silly from the outside, but having taken classes in art and design, it's very important and gets hammered into you often. everything you draw from color is subconscious unless you're informed about how it works. these are instinctive associations on our part as viewers, but intentional choices on the part of creators. i think if more people knew how to read color choices they'd, in general, be better at interpreting all kinds of media and seeing the thought process behind it. was delighted to see you talk about it! your videos are always incredible
Yes, I have o idea why elementary kids aren't taught to do a semiotic reading of an ad by the time they leave school. Oh wait, that would make the too aware of the subliminal messaging in everything from colour to layout to typeface to line spacing etc.. Everything is curated, everything is part of the mis-en-scene as means to an end.

If she does do a video on the situation and decides to do a deep dive I’d imagine it’d take her quite a bit as a lot of what Trisha has posted in her past and even now is extremely triggering, not to mention they’ve been deleting any little bits of evidence they can find. The situation is still evolving also. I’d love to see her take on it though. I think she’d do an amazing job.

I really don't understand why people need this explained to them. It amazes me that he has fooled so many for so long. Who he is and has always been is painfully obvious to me. Jeffrey needs to acknowledge the true harm his words have and that he owes the black community a real apology. To do that though he first needs to acknowledge he is racist. If he changed and were no longer racist, his apology would have been just that, an apology. Apologies are easy to do when you get what you did was wrong, otherwise, it's him feeling pressured to not get canceled. Also so much posturing in that video. I hope we can get past the phrasing of apologies “working” or “not working”. They aren’t magic tricks. A good apology is one that expresses remorse and an understanding of what harm one has done. It’s not defined by others’ response, because free will is still a thing.

When he says "when you accept that you're the problem you can become the solution" you'd assume he's talking about himself but he uses "you" and "you are" instead of I and am, disassociating himself from the situation, which could be interpreted as- blaming the victim- by speaking directly to them and still taking credit from his views by making them think he's acknowledge "his" mistake despite the fact he never said "I"

Love your channel! Listening to you call BS on these toxic celebrities, influencers and pretty much anyone who think they can act however they want makes my day! This particular episode was brilliant. Very few people actually offer a genuine apology for the crappy thing they did in the first place, they only apologize for either getting caught or called out. It's also really cool of you to try to give him the benefit of the doubt in some places, but Jeffree Star doesn't deserve it.
I have more respect for people who learn from their mistakes and acknowledge they were wrong and grow from it to be a better person.
I don’t believe he’s growing. I believe he’s learning how to make more videos. As he’s referring to his abusive behavior as “mistakes” and “I’ll make a million more mistakes”, no, he’s not growing. This is a pattern already, and will continue. He’s a gross excuse for a person.
Yeah being abusive is not a mistake. When I was growing up I was mean to my much younger siblings. That wasn’t me making little mistakes every day, that was just me being an asshole. Mistakes are one-off occurrences, not trackable, consistent behavior.

When you say let the trash take itself out I think that's so important. I used to follow Shane Dawson, Jeffree Star, Mykie, and I'm sure other problematic people when I didn't know about their various controversies but have had no trouble unfollowing them completely upon learning about them. Of course as a viewer it sucks to lose content you enjoy but to me it's never been worth supporting people like that.
Edit: Actually I started watching your videos when you made your video about Mykie. I unfollowed her and followed you and am so happy I did. Your content is highly underrated and so interesting and well done

the visual analysis of the series of apology videos was fantastic! it reminded me of the great kind of essay you end up writing in a first term art/design school class. i can't remember the name of the class like this i took at art school, i think it was maybe called visual criticism? anyways, there were a couple classes like that where you learn about lots about aesthetics and how analyze the way aesthetics are used in all contexts. i remember having to write an essay picking some piece of art or media and breaking down every aesthetic choice and its possible meaning. swoop would have gotten an A+! one of the great things about academic classes at art school is that there may be a scenario where you could totally write an essay breaking down the aesthetic motivations of jeffree starr's apology videos

Wild thing most people don't know about Jeffrey is the fact He was one of the original seven members of the band Hollywood Undead before he cut ties with them Jeffrey when Jeffrey was Shady Jeff in the band he not only did the screaming of the bands early years but also wore the bandana before the band member Charlie Scene wore it. these are super wonderful because I’ve been in my head and these either help me focus on something else, or if I’m watching them in bed I’ll wind up falling asleep & ive been struggling to sleep. These are incredible documentaries anyways but they’re been super helpful & i love them

Because she was a big topic in the first videos on your channel that I watched, I'd like to draw a parallel between Jeffree Star and Emily Artful. Jeffree not only claims he was a different person, but that he doesn't even know who that person was. Emily not only owns up that she has always been the same person, while still managing to grow as a person, but she can in fact remember who "that person" was. She can remember her own experiences at the time (while she was using, mind you.) I find it embarrassing for Jeffree that Emily not only can be more mature than he can and can admit to her own mistakes much more than he can, but also actually has more of an excuse to say she was a different person or to deflect accountability than he does (the fact she has a lot of mental health issues and was abusing substances at the time) and yet she still takes accountability. Just came from your CSA videos and just wanted to say it because Emily is still fresh in my mind.
TL:DR; Emily Artful is a better person than Jeffree Star
Edit: I'd also like to note that Emily, unlike Jeffree, has openly stated that her being a user, having bad mental health, and struggling with herself (i.e. being "in a dark place.") is an explanation for the way she acted, but not an excuse. She does not think it justifies her actions in any way. I think Jeffree sees "that person being depressed [and] angry" as an excuse
Fully agree with you. It just goes to show that Emily was/is actually interested in growing from her past decisions while Jeffree just wants people to shut up about his past so he can go back to growing his business. From someone who presumably looks in the mirror quite often, you’d think he’d know how to actually self-reflect.
@@blueyellowandgreen I think most of that is because Emily, unlike Jeffree, is a good person. She's done real shitty things in the past but she works on bettering herself and becoming better. It shows she has a desire to do good, and that makes her a good person. Despite Jeffree's apologies, I don't think he is really a good person because he doesn't seem to really want to better himself. Especially since one of his apologies literally advertises his brand. It's clear what he really cares about and values: money. He is a materialistic person. Emily is a good-hearted person
This woman needs to be the compass of what a real "influencer" should be. Will the real influencer please stand up? All the stans like Jeffree please sit down.
