Hilary Clinton conceded the same night of the 2016 election! How can anyone compare trump to anyone else??! Decency vs indecency, humility vs maniacal ego, love of country vs love of self.
Hillary denied the votes in Florida and had them do a recount. When the counter workers found the dominion voting machines were switching Trump votes to Hillary votes, she THEN conceded. Get the facts straight!

The media turned on Clinton during the 2016 campaign. Different story when Hillary was running against Obama for yhe Drmocratic nomination for president. She was the media's darling and could do no wrong. Look what the media did to DeSantis. A year ago they crowned him heir apparent to 45. Then a year later, they tore him down to nothing. Cable news networks need to be placed in pay-per-view. The cable networks are painting the narrative as a seedy little soap opera. They're playing with our lives for higher ratings.
The grace Hillary Clinton showed was incredible. I think probably the hardest concession speech in our history was the one she gave. They are a bedrock of a healthy democracy.
She actually said that we should give Trump a chance in that concession. Try to imagine Trump ever displaying any kind of grace.
I for one, was quite upset that she didn't contest it further; that the result was a disaster for the nation and the world was obvious to all sane persons, and of very questionable legitimacy.
Hilary gracefully accepted her defeat in spite of the fact that she won by more than 3 million votes and here comes the orange man screaming like a toddler that he was cheated in spite of the fact he lost by more than 7+ million votes.

A healthy democracy is to stop racism, which leads to fascism. America cannot be healthy with a large percentage of its population locked out.
Good point, this contrast between all the previous concession speeches and the pettiness and malice of a wannabe dictator should be aired across the networks daily and nightly.
It is the exposure of tfg’s pettiness and the number of people who have abandoned the tenets of our Constitution and their Christian religion to echo that pettiness that makes me angry and sad.

When I look at Al Gore conceding to Bush I think that was a tragedy for this country, but a much, much greater tragedy was Trump getting elected.
This was Bill clinton fault his Nafta deal created a domino effect that lead us to trump.
Truth be told, it was W Bush, his brother Jeb, and all the corrupt Republican hacks that surrounded him, was the precursor to Trump. Bush was the one, with the help of the worse and HORRIBLE decision by swing vote Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, they stole the election from Al Gore. THAT was a a *real* stolen election. There are many documentaries about it. But still, Al Gore did the "right thing" (as much as I hated it) to save the integrity and reputation of our country. That was the first major crack in the Judicial Branch. When Trump came, he lit everything on fire and destroyed the integrity of the Supreme Court by polluting it with far right wing cronies hand-picked by the Federalist Society (not him). He also destroyed the integrity of most of our democratic government institutions and our reputation worldwide. Biden and the Democrats have been spending years trying to slowly repair the damage, just as Obama had to spend 8 years of his presidency to finally correct all the damage done by the previous Republican Bush Administration (with Republicans in Congress blocking him at ever turn for his last 6 years). Seeing the pattern?

At the end of the previous administration, we were moving forward with an 8% rate of growth in a 144% rate of inflation.

Those examples of concession can be held out as one of the many aspects that separate a functioning democracy from a dysfunctional autocracy. It's hard to imagine ever seeing ANYTHING like those speeches and that letter from GWB to Clinton in China, or NK, or Russia.

It was not necessarily a concession speech, but Nixons' resignation speech would have fit in well with this compilation.

Really, he had no choice. Days before, Barry Goldwater and the respective Republican leaders in the House and the Senate had gone to the WH and told him that he had no hope of survival, that if he was impeached, conviction was a certainty. It was either quit or be fired. But Nixon did consider fighting on and it was good that he did the right thing and resigned.

Concedes then goes on for 4 years saying Russia and blaming everyone for HER loss. Such grace. Or obama just before getting out unmasking all those people.
Sometimes losing presidential candidates also suffer further because they lose to the opponents they didn't want to run again. Goldwater expected to run against JFK, who was a close friend of his and they planned to have Lincoln/Douglas-style debates, but then after JFK's assassination, he had to run against LBJ, who he definitely did not like. And John McCain expected to run against Hillary, who he liked and respected, and instead faced Obama, who he considered a lightweight upstart. Both men got crushed by the opponents they didn't like at all and yet they were able to make gracious concession speeches.
Hillary Rodham Clinton’s concession was remarkably yet characteristically of her, also gracious and inspiring. (She’d correctly labeled the deplorables as the bad guys, yet they won anyway.)

Hay Joe, it wasn't 5 R appointees vs 4 D appointees in SCOTUS ruling in Bush v. Gore. David Souter was nominated by H.W. and found in favor of Gore with the other 3.
It's not a large segment: they are just given more free air time as is trump.
In the case of Lincoln, the Southern states (as far as I know) never actually disputed the fact that Lincoln had won, so in that sense it's not the same as Bush v Gore, Trump v Biden.

We don't have a democracy in the first place, or we'd have had nearly no Republicans in office in the last 50 years. We have the idiotic Electoral college instead and the Senate, which is far from democratic. Then of course the gerrymandering which renders Congress undemocratic. We need to understand all this far better in the US. It's the only reason we haven't been able to move forward for decades. It's disgusting. The founding fathers weren't always so bright in regard to majority rule, let's face it.
The difference is his emotional state. He had been trained that he can get anything that he wanted. He is a spoiled brat kid. This is the greatest temper-tantrum ever thrown. This will be his legacy. All of the history books will only remember him for this. It will be referred to in jokes, cartoons, and movies. They will not even need to mention a name, because all will know who it is referring to.

The greatest concession speech that I have witnessed in MY lifetime, was John McCain in 2008. Everybody should go back and watch and listen to that speech. It was sooo moving. I periodically go back and watch it every now and then. No OTHER concession speech has EVER done that to me. I was not a great fan of John McCain, but I DO give credit where credit is due when it is earned. Go watch it, it was REALLY something.
I agree completely. In retrospect, he was such a great man compared to Trump. It’s amazing how Republicans have lost their morals and principles for this con artist.

They showed every concession speech since the 60's...the only person that didn't give one was Trump, the only person who couldn't allow for himself to be a loser, had to come up with yet another option to stay in power. That is really his crime, in essence, the inability to accept defeat for the good of our nation. Hillary conceded, it doesn't matter who felt that she was robbed, she didn't fight against Trump. Gore didn't fight against Bush. People can scream about both those elections because both Presidents lost the popular vote, both needed recounts to ensure their victory, but end of the day, the candidates conceded the election, which took out the ability for people to back them and try to push them back into office, saying that the election was stolen. I mean in reality, Biden had a bigger mandate against Trump than Trump had against Clinton.
