On the other side, the investments United has done, is old school. Buy football names, and not a team. Signing Sancho and Ronaldo in the same window is just abysmal from a sporting point of view. That is 2 players you needed the least, building on how the team played last season. Sancho is not a horrible purchase, but for that amount, and for as little defensive capabilities he has.

      Interesting.
I think, since none of Manchester's strikers really does anything remotely linked to pressing, playing a high press against Liverpool is basically harakiri no matter how you try to employ it.
A back three might be a good start. Lying deep, trying to win the ball somewhere between the middle line and your own penalty area, and then searching for quick counter attacks making the best use of your pacy sprinters.

Burnley don't press, Jose parks the bus, even Conte prefers a low block out of possession but whatever the tactic is the key thing is to do it with some structure and strategy.. that's what the manager and coaching staff are supposed to be for, hence why we see clueless individuals on the pitch every week.

The problem at United is not the squad or players, it's clearly the lack of coaching and tactics. 3 years at the club and we still have no style of play other than moments of individual brilliance.
And to answer your question, Jose, LVG and Moyes are not known for counterpressing either so I agree with you. I think SAF probably would have deployed it by now though as he was always able to evolve with the game and the front press is a fairly recent addition to top tier football.

I was talking to my brother, Thursday night, and saying this is how I'd set up for the game.
    3-4-1-2.
Maguire, Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka in the back three. (Bissaka offers nothing going forward but can tackle, so may as well try him there.) That way you have enough back that if one inevitably fucks up, there should be cover.
Play Shaw as the more defensively minded wing-back on the left.
Play Sancho as a wing-back on the right with the idea being he can be a bit more attacking as Wan-Bissaka can be behind that area.
You play Fred and Van De Beek in the middle. Fred does work hard, and with 3 behind him is less likely to be exposed. Van De Beek can offer Pogba's passing range but, as we saw against West Ham, he's much better at getting stuck in and disrupting play as well. Basically, he's a slightly less technical Pogba with a much higher work-rate.
You play Bruno as a 10. Not a false 9 - where he's pretty much useless - but as an actual 10 who drops back sometimes and dictates things. He can do this, I've seen him do it at Portugal.
Then you have Ronaldo and Cavani up top. Ronaldo to cause enough threat to pin back Liverpool's defenders, and Cavani doing his 'run-around-like-a-matador' thing.
Not saying this team would win, but I doubt it would let in 5.

Ah yes, he dominates a Qatar one team league so he will dominate La Liga.

@@Iksvomid I fully understand your point that the Quatar whatever league isn't a pretigious competition, but it is certainly not a one-team league. From literally 5 seconds of goggling, you will see that it actually has a variety of winners and from simply looking at the number of titles, what Xavi did seems pretty impressive. Now does that mean Xavi is good? I don't know as I don't watch Al Sadd, but I think there are definitely enough reasons, as well as viewers' interest to justify a video about Xavi.

@@HieuNguyen0602 Only one team has 10+ titles in their league. Besides, Xavi is completely inexperienced. Look at what is happening at United with Ole, what happened with Lampard at Chelsea, they didn't know how to handle a big team, you can't just get a coach based on how good he was as a player and hope for the best.
