Cold 187um: If Eazy-E Were More Seasoned He Would've Fired Jerry

  • www.vladtv.com - When Ice Cube left N.W.A., Cold 187um of Above the Law says the whole ordeal was "disheartening" to all those involved. "When that happened it was like everything got exposed," he recalls. "Around Ruthless [Records] it was like a question mark, really. But then you have to think like, we're really young and it's a lot of money coming in, so who knows what's going on?"
    Big Hutch - who claims he "ghost-produced" on N.W.A.'s "100 Miles and Runnin'" - remembers there being a bit of understood animosity between Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, DJ Yella, MC Ren and Ice Cube around the time Cube departed. "I think that's what people didn't grasp at the time. But it's like, if we're all brothers and we rollin' with something just roll with us," Cold 187um relays to us. If it were up to him, however, Jerry Heller would have gotten the boot before Ice Cube moved on to do his own thing. He feels them all being young at the time played a big part in the group's demise, and had Eazy-E been "more seasoned" he would have known to fire Heller, being that "everybody had question marks" regarding the manager.
    In the end, Cold 187um has a hell of a lot of respect for Heller, especially since he got his "first legal money from him." "He was really an a**hole in the early days," he remembers, but once he stood up to him that all changed. "If you wasn't one on one with him, he wouldn't respect you."
    Hear more from Cold 187um regarding Ice Cube leaving N.W.A. and his thoughts on "No Vaseline" in another informative West Coast exclusive.

    If you're the owner(Eazy E)... you don't let Lebron(Ice Cube)leave... you get rid the coach(Jerry Heller).

    • @martyc909
      @martyc909 Před 5 lety +12

      Nah, Eazy was the owner, Jerry was the manager hired by Eazy. Cold 187 was right, as the owner Eazy needed to keep LeBron. To the day he died, Jerry still talked down about Cube about said he wasn't good for the group. But that's because Cube saw the bigger picture. Eazy should have tried to keep Cube, launch his solo career and Ruthless would have had two stars. Jerry only saw Ruthless as a one star label with Eazy.

    Efil4zaggin, was a much better record than SOC. Production and lyrically. The only difference was SOC came first, so of course the impact would've been more shocking. Efil4zaggin went in @ number one on the POP CHARTS. Think about that, in 1991 Hip Hop, especially Gangsta Rap, was not making that kind of noise in mainstream culture.

    I'm glad this movie is out cause in my mind, Eazy-E is the single most important figure in Hip Hop when it comes to the concept of "Rags to Riches"... all what Puffy, Jay and a few others are doing now are a direct consequence of his success and letting people know that you don't have to conform to be successful.

    • @elliot2177
      @elliot2177 Před 8 lety +3

      Not really.,Barry gody is the top influence as far as music in general. Puffy is the one who Did it for hip hop.I can't say Easy E because he was still getting raped.Puffy was not..he is the one who started getting your own label without getting fucked...

      E Haynes Errr.... Yea, A) incase you didn't know, I'm talking about Hip Hop and B) How was he getting "raped"? Know your facts, he got a bigger cut more than anyone and OWNED the company; and if you think that Puff didn't get taken advantage of in the beginning (not even to talk about the extortion by street hustlers) then you need a reality check.

Easy e house and all his shit was being repossessed thata how he was getting raped.Puffy was the first black man in hip hop to actually sucessfully cut out the middle man(usually white) and get a distrubution deal.he was the first until him, mofos were getting raped including N.W.A. Extortion shit is some street shit whether that hapoened or not I have never heard of it and don't give a fuck.Im talking about business.Business wise ,puffy opened door for all these young,black entrepreneur to have thier own without being raped by those big coporations.Now you have young money ,ovo,good music,mmg, etc...Those labels would have never been possible if it were not for Puffy,period.

    Here's some insight that people don't really talk about: It was actually Cold 187um/Above the Law who was working with Snoop Dogg before Dre did while still at Ruthless. When Dre broke out, of course Snoop went with him, and Cold 187um said in an interview that he was going to leave as well but Eazy wasn't going to allow that shit. Even MC Ren was distancing himself from Eazy, hence the shoutout Snoop gave him during the Chronic intro because he was there in the studio. Now fast forward to Eazy's EP, It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa. The title is also low-key dissing Cold 187um if you think about it. I understand he even produced a track on there but still

    That NFL album was Everywhere that summer. Came out No.1 with no radio hits, proving they didn't need a label or Jerry.

    I’m sorry I think SOC is slightly less than N4L. SOC is classic but it sounds slightly dated now. N4L sounds eternal.

    Next time you have Hutch in the house, please ask him the exact truth about the fight between Above the Law and Lench Mob. I know Hutch will keep it 100 about what really happened.

    Think of all the big time rappers from 1986 to 1996. Hundreds of them and only like 6 got rich. Diddy, Dre, Cube, Snoop, Nas, Jay-Z and that's about it. That is sad.

    4 life is a better produced more polished album than str8 outta Compton.The shock factor of the 1st made it that little more legendary, which gave even them tracks more commercial appeal. AND WE'LL BOTH RIDE HOME IN MY AUTOMOBILE!!
