  • The story of struggle and the ultimate triumph of the brave African-American soldiers who served their country during World War II. The film chronicles the "Tuskegee Airmen" program, a controversial military initiative designed to measure African-Americans' competence for flying the engines of war. This fascinating documentary features the stories of the more than 40 aviators from western Pennsylvania, including the pilots, navigators and bombardiers who flew fighter and bomber planes during the war, as well as the maintenance and support staff, instructors and personnel who kept the planes in the air.

Wonderful tribute to the Tuskegee airmen of western PA at Pittsburgh airport. Had no idea so many called PA their home. Spent the afternoon reading on these heroes exploits and admiring the devotion to their service rendered by those who created the exhibit.

Thank you for producing this segment. Also, my thanks to the Tuskegee airmen from a nation who was less than greatful at the time of your service.

when there are people who choose of their own free will to fight an uphill struggle to defend a nation which so easily would turn its back on them speaks to their character and their devotion. they had the real vision for america, even when america didn’t have it.

Another great unknown unit is the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion. They invented the "Smoke Jumpers" fire fighting mission.
