  • This is the 7th episode of Music Theory in 5 minutes (or so)
    Here we'll see these tiny bits of chord progressions that have been used a lot to the point that they have become very recognisable : the cadences.
    They are several, each one its own taste, so you can use them in your own chord progression to lead the tone of your musical sentences, a bit like ponctuation.
    This series is part of my Beats & Bobs series, where you'll find musical challenges, experiments and tutorials.
    Thanks for passing by!

    This is bloody brilliantly. Thanks so much! Can’t believe these videos aren’t more popular than they currently are. I was trying to understand chord progressions without first understanding cadences. I’ve never seen someone take random chords from a key and create a whole song like this, so it’s super insightful and inspiring. I feel much more confident to create my own music now, thanks!

    OMG THIS IS INSANE!!! YOU ARE GENIUS!!! 🤩
    You can make a catchy song with a random number for your chord progression and you can decide where you should put each of the cadences, and then... BOOM!!! A catchy hits songs just born 💣💥💥💥
    I LOVE IT DUDE! THANKS FOR SHARING 💞

Bonus points for how concise the content is! Fucking amazing content man, all your stuff is incredible. Excited to dig into your channel 🔥

    These formulas and packaged cadence is what makes modern music sound all alike.
    You heard him say they use what people like.

    • @Woochia
      @Woochia  Před 7 měsíci

      Which doesn't mean you should avoid them, just be aware of them. It's like for a language. You can decide to speak differently than everyone else, but you may want to be still understood.
      Cadences are a great way to play with expectations, surprise and payoff.

    Hi Woochia this cadences is amazing!
    I have a a question about building a chord progression like you setted here in the video.
    I know that is very specifical progression and it ends with major for the tonality. Within that I am not fully understand the music theory, And most of it still dont catch my mind with common sence.
    But the question is this: Can I copy that structure (that made of Cm) With different Root key ?
    For example with the first line you managed to make it: Fm-D-Bm/EM-GM
    If I want to take it to E scale, Is it right to make it like: A-Gm-Em/Am-B

    Authentic cadence is used for build ups of EDM songs.isn't it

    • @Woochia
      @Woochia  Před rokem +1

      Yes exactly. EDM is built a lot around the concept of expectation/release (ex: build ups then drop) the authentic cadence is perfect to build this kind of expectation.

  • @MrWebCollections

    In your example song (at 4:50):
    Isn't the FIRST Cadence also an INTERRUPTED cadence (as it resolves to IV instead of I)?
    If not: What's the difference to the THIRD cadence (which resolves to VI instead of I)?

      @@Woochia Okay. Great. Thanks for your answer. Your channel is really great!!

  • @timproctor1412
    @timproctor1412 Před 5 lety

    When you go through the authentic cadence, why does the C major start at the second C note? Also, I've watched all the earlier videos, and I still do not understand why the "perfect" fourth and fifth are major chords, and the second, third, and sixth are minor, and the seventh is diminished? Also, I understand what diminished means, but why is it used for the seventh instead of saying major or minor? Thank you!

    • @timproctor1412
      @timproctor1412 Před 5 lety

      @@Woochia Thank you. I was also wondering if the scale was A minor would it still follow the same pattern as C major (root - major 2nd - major 3rd, etc.) for each note? Thanks again!

    is it okay to use any order of chords for a chord progression? As you did with random numbers

    • @SubitusNex
      @SubitusNex Před 4 lety

      @@Woochia Yeah I was surprised that you used random chords instead of a progression chart, but that simplicity kind of generates fun out-of-the-box options I suppose. Mixing that with different voicings and extensions to make them sound better, simple but powerful. Thanks for the tips!
