    If your a real Bmw enthusiast an e46 m3 will never get old (as some people mention). I have wide body e46 m3 turboed and I’ll never get rid of it. The engine noise can never be out did. I love this car.

    Just discovered the channel and am enjoying it. I think an OG M2 will be my next move from my M140i although M4’s suddenly look good value but I struggle with the noise.

      Plenty of M-car related stuff on the channel 👍 shame Matt didn’t keep the M2 longer as I think with a few upgrades it could have been awesome 😎
      M4’s indeed have come down in price and tuners have started to improve the sound with equal length centre centre sections - heard a single turbo one that sounded like a GTR 😎

    I have an E46 M3 as well which I love but I think its time to upgrade to something else.
    I'm looking at the 981 Cayman S,
    Bmw M2(preferably Competition if prices go down),
    and E92 M3.
    It's a tough choice to make, but this video definitely helps.
    I would go for a 6 speed manual and would take it to the track as well as drive it daily.
    Have you ever driven the 981?

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  Před 5 lety +1

      A good friend had a Cayman S black edition (featured briefly on the channel in the very early days so not massively detailed video) his was a PDK and whilst the handling, noise & PDK gearbox were great it lacked the straight line performance for me - over 100 in my e46 I would start pulling away

      I own a 05 E46 M3 CS ( converted to manual ) and a good mate of mine owns a 2017 DCT M2.
      I could be biased but imo the M3 is far superior! I have done some tasteful modifications to the M3 but the whole feel of the car is completely different! I've always hated the way they compare these two cars because honestly they are opposites. The M2 is a much easier going cruiser, where as the M3 wants you to really drive it and push it to it limits and feels like that's what it's made for, you never feel unsafe or like the car can't handle it. Where as the M2 I'm never 100% confident when taking a corner etc.
      Still an amazing car but I'm yet to see what the fuss is about it.
      It's equally as quick as my best mates stock 09 E92 M3 in manual.
      And my M3 pulls lengths on the M2 but I'm putting down 253rwkw so not exactly a fair comparison because it wouldn't take much for that M2 to destroy my lil NA ///M lol
      Hope this somewhat helps mate

    I’m wanting to upgrade my m135i to a proper m car struggling to decide what to go for budget 30k max the car is my only car but I drive a van to work and back.
    F80- I’m at the rough end of the market viewed a couple of dogs
    M2- like you said for a weekend car is it enough of an event feels similar to my m135i to sit in. Not driven one though.
    E92- do they really cost that much to run. The V8 is sure an event
    E46 best of the lot to look at and that sound but lots of rough ones out there potential large costs. Would it feel dated to use as an only car..
    decisions decisions umm

    • @stoneautomotive
      @stoneautomotive  Před 5 lety +1

      My partner has recently bought an M240i and granted the M2 is the better car but the only big difference for me was the LSD and DCT box, the ZF box is perfect for fast smooth shifts but lacks in the “feel” like a DCT thud.
      Personally I would go with the e92 over the F80 now, I was originally going to go F80 but with these charge cooler, turbo & crank hub failures your better off buying an e92 and saving the £10k for fuel 😂
      In fairness there not terrible to run just make sure if you do buy one get one that’s had the shells, actuators, tyres & brakes all done as that’s where the costs start to add up on these - PS HK and LCI are a must if you do go e92

    Great in-car sounds and such and great detail. But in a comparo, shouldn't you drive both cars back to back in the video? And maybe a walk around the two while reeling off relative specs (dimensions, wheelbase, weight, etc.)? These are the basics in car comparison videos that yours is lacking. Sure you've covered the E46 extensively in other videos and allude to the car during your driving the M2, but that's not what most viewers expect with the title "M3 vs M2", and many will be left wanting for a more direct comparison between the two rather than a 13 minute video of you driving just one. Anyway I love the statement at 8:05 where you say (paraphrasing) "Unless you're in third gear in the E46 on the highway at 70, the M2 will annihilate it at that speed." Totally agreed. Of the many joys in driving the E46M3, which I have for ten years, perhaps my favorite thing is shooting through slower moving traffic in third gear from about 70 to redline, which is about 95 I think. It's exhilarating for the driver, and the intake noise scares the pants off any first time passenger even if I forewarn them. I would put the engine note of the E46 right up there with the best naturally aspirated sixes of all time, including Porsche, and the best sounding front mounted six ever. It's really that good.

      Again agree, sadly with CZcams being very much a hobby for me it’s been a steep learning curve & comments such as yours have improved the channel with each video (or at least I hope so lol)
      Being the director, camera man, host & editor can be a little over whelming at times and I assumed most watching this video would have already seen the e46 content but appears that assumption was my mistake.

      @stoneautomotive  Před 3 lety

      The M2 will be a better daily especially if you’re going SMG > DCT, I did enjoy the M2 a lot after driving it more since the review & can see the appeal. Be sickening watching the M2 drop in value as the e46 continues to climb but it only takes one big bill from the e46 M3 to destroy the balance 😅

    • @KRBY555
      @KRBY555 Před 3 lety +1

      @@stoneautomotive Yeah the depreciation is bad - but I would keep the m2 for ages, and if I need to switch to a 4 door, the F80 is depreciating at the same rate, so I can "swap". Even an engine rebuild in e46 won't match m2/f80 depreciation. But it's the constant little things, (which I have kept up with). Its more the fact I've had e46 for a decade and it's double in value (WTF?!?) so being able to buy a 35GBP car for only 12GBP difference is apealing. Thanks for your comment. PS - I had SMG, converted to 6MT now.

      Really depends what your looking for in a car, as an all rounder the M2 is the better choice but for pure NA driving thrills you can’t beat the e46 M3… unless of course we throw the e92 M3 into the decisions 😅

  • @MarvinConnell
    @MarvinConnell Před 5 lety +1

    First off, I would prioritize the lighter of the two... Secondly, I prefer manual transmissions above all so regardless of weight, I'd choose the one with a clutch pedal... Thirdly, daily driving of a car with a clutch should get the driver used to same to the point where he or she'd be okay in it, even in traffic... Lastly, Genuine concern for emissions will only be perceived by myself when mankind's Money System - used to control mankind & sought after due to greed - is gotten rid of\given up, permitting Electric Vehicles to be properly made & mandatory by law(which should be a reality years now): instagram.com/p/BlFLLBMBiXb/
