Speaking as a native Californian, it's rational to leave if you are renting and getting financially abused by the rapacious landlords here.
There's like a 20% chance LA, SB, or SF will get taken out by the San Andreas in my lifetime, so a natural disaster bigger than this in the cards for California this century at least.
