By all means, let's ridicule a Republican congresswoman for asking incisive questions, rather than college presidents for giving indefensible answers.
They literally spent half the skit mocking the college presidents for giving indefensible answers. They came off as out-of-touch loons. Did you only watch the parts of the sketch that reinforced your point of view?
@@seanmobley2610 I watched the whole thing. The caricature of Rep. Stefanik was far more extreme and mocking than that of the college presidents. This is notable because in the actual hearing, Stefanik asked incisive (if sometimes flawed) questions, whereas the college presidents gave morally indefensible answers.
You could definitely tell they were all lawyers. You couldn't get a straight answer.

This sketch will always be in the SNL Hall of Shame.

Yeah, especially genocidal Israelis.
This sketch was very similar to the university president themselves: afraid of offending someone, thus pissing off everyone.
the writers are part of that same school system so go figure
Bingo!
Difficult to tell by the sketch but was obvious which three of the four (Stefanik, Macgill, Gay, Kornhole) were grossly incompetent during the actual hearing...

@@jasonbrownjournoI wouldn’t go around just telling strangers that kind of thing.
I’m somewhere in the middle politically and it blows my mind that the “writers” and SNL watched this hearing and their take away was the Rep asking the questions is the problem. Absolutely insane.
then you must not be familiar with SNL. SNL got infected with the woke mind virus long long ago. It's become a propaganda show to try and promote genocide, anti science, bigotry, and racism.
You haven't been paying attention to Elise Stefanik. The truth is, she's also from New York, so they see her hypocrisy.
@@Iloveswedesit doesn’t really matter who was asking the questions though.. it was their answers that everybody was pissed about. It could have literally been a 10 year old asking the questions in that hearing and the answers they gave would still have been terrible. I don’t have a clue who the Stefanik girl is.. and I don’t really care.
If you want to know what hypocrisy is, then ask yourself what their answers would have been if Jews were not the subject of the question and instead the questions were about genociding black people, LGBTQ, or basically any other group they regularly pander to.
If you think they would have been nearly as vague.. you’re blind.
@steggy9651 great answer!

The Republicans & Dem allies are defining antisemitism as any criticism of Israel. Universities have been censoring & kicking out or firing students & faculty for speaking out against Israels war crimes.
Lmao truly, its wild how people are so completely short-sighted. They are the people in the Weimar republic who watched the Nazi party rise to power and just went "well, they said Jews are the problem and they're probably right"
Thanks for having the balls to broadcast your worst most embarrassing failures. Respect.

Actually they don’t deserve respect
SNL watches the hearing, sees three university presidents refuse to say calls for genocide violate school policy and they think the joke is the republican asking the questions is the punchline.

@@hannacook859 Ah yes, the "Jewish space laser" folks are trying to stop antisemitism. Got it.
Absolutely 👍👍👍
Is SNL really trying to defend 3 women who couldn't say genocide against Jews is bad?
The whole premise of the question was deceitful, it implied that there was a movement of students at these colleges calling for genocide. Implying that slogans that call for the freedom of Palestinians is calling for the genocide of Jews is fucked up. Israel government is the oppressor, not Jews. Criticism of Israel government is not antisemitic, many of the critics are Jewish themselves.
No, but they are pointing out that many of the people holding these college leaders accountable are refusing to be held accountable themselves.
Yes
Looks like it
@@LexoG33 It should also be pointed out that Hamas is also an oppressor of the Palestinians. And many leaders from numerous countries have exploited the Palestine situation for their own means and enrichment.
Hamas is evil and controls Gaza through force.
Palestinians are stuck in a vice between Israel and Hamas.
Politicians in the US trying to play this conflict for political points in the Jewish community are pathetic and soulless and no better than the leaders of Hamas who have grown wealthy while Palestinians live in poverty.
Claudine Gay just resigned.. Is SNL going to make a skit of that? 😂
😅 yeah right... half the SNL writers would get fired just thinking about trying that stunt for comedy. But it would be funny to watch, especially when she explains why she plagiarize her entire college career and was still hired by Harvard University. That would be the joke of 2024. Only Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be able to out stink America like "Professor" ? Gay did.
Something tells me their gonna make the entire staff of Harvard wear Klansman robes
If you watch it as a sketch that parodies how terrible SNL is, it‘s watchable.

This was stinky cheese on arrival.
Lookin back, it still sucks.
Despicable. Instead of skewering the college presidents for their appalling answers, they skewer the congresswoman for her straightforward and revealing questions.
Why would SNL mock their woke comrades?
@@cmonman3639
Because woke people are nothing more than a nest of snakes always biting each other
It's because the woke left is antisemitic.
This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode, where his dentist switches to Judaism, and then makes jokes about Jewish people.
Seinfeld is asked: "And this offends you as a Jewish person?"
"No, it offends me as a comedian"
The sketch didn't offend me because of its politics. It offended me because it missed the hanging softball of being able to make fun of folks who said that someone calling for the genocide of Jewish people would "need context". That, and that it portrayed the university presidents as anything but pandering idiots.
I really think they may have just put that show out of business.
For those that don’t know, SNL used to be a late night comedy series of skits. Now it’s just a late night series of skits trying to tell young people how to vote.

Same with the major late night shows and so many other daytime shows.. they have become political tools for the left.
Regardless of what they were then and now i never liked this god awful boringly insipid show. Mind you i love skit shows too, some being in living color and mad tv being my favorites, but this show is so damn boring.
Of course, imagine if you put any other group of people in this context and SNL would never have dared
White people would get it too. Looks like it's ok to hate Europeans & Jews because reasons.
so true. it is hypocrisy and it and plain to see
the congresswoman literally asked the Harvard pres if the genocide of black people was ok and she had to stand on the same hill, sad that people like this have power in our society
When you are so far left that you can never agree with any Republican under any circumstance, these are the sketches you get.
One may question Rep. stefaniks sincerity. As the sketch states, her mentor trump said " there were good people on both sides" of a rally where white nationalists were shouting " Jews will not replace us"
I think it may have something do do with the writers room and their affiliation to Ivy League schools… at least that was my take while watching it.

Imagine a similar sketch about any other minority group?
Easily. Watch Weekend Update on literally any Saturday of the year it's on. You and every other whining Willie will find literally all sorts of OTT parodies of racism against minorities and - major bonus! - against majority whities, like me.
Really easy to find it's in the same Tv programme.
Heads will roll.
Dude, if any college president wouldn't be condemning the genocide of... Let's say... Black people? It would have ended for them long before a hearing in Congress.
Only when it comes to Jews there is suddenly this double standard about racism, it's that simple
Cry harder
Any other minority group?
This whole sketch was primarily mocking somebody who's actually bringing a valuable point, that college campuses should be safe for all students, and being that now and for hundreds of years, due to me being a Jew and actually knowing my heritage and history and you don't even have to be a Jew to know, that this was horrible and extremely antisemitic, and honestly very unfunny, so please don't bring in your, "any other minority group", because this has no correlation and we, as Jews, had no retaliation.
Someone needs to make a sketch about SNL writers. Scenario - SNL writers mocking Germans who were against the Nazis from coming to power. The person questioning the Nazis would ask "Would the Holocaust be bad for the Jewish population?" However, the Nazis answer of "it depends on the context" wouldn't be the defining moment. The defining moment, according to SNL writers, would be about how the person against the Nazis asked the question.
The problem is SNL follows an ideology regardless of where it takes them.
But we all know that Magas are the new Nzs
This is what comedy must have been like circa 1941 Germany.
My goodness, they have a point that the Republican is being inconsistent but...
if we ever do fall into that type of travesty as a nation, it will be because one side cared more about attacking the smoke of hypocrisy than addressing the blazing fire of hatred around them. It will all burn down because the inhabitants were pettily squabbling instead of escaping.
and just like german comedy, it's painfully unfunny.
thats funny because the modern GOP is a nazi party. Similar everything.

I get what they were trying to do, or at least I think so. The point of the sketch was to "both sides" the issue by portraying both parties as equally incompetent. HOWEVER, that doesn't work when one side is asking simple yes or no questions about the topic of antisemitism and the other is refusing to properly answer. To be clear, I am a liberal Democrat, and I do not align ideologically with Representative Stefanik. However, even I will say that the notion of her being just as incompetent as the people refusing to outright condemn antisemitic behavior is a false equivalency. If they wanted to portray Stefanik in an exaggerated and comedic manner, that's fine, but they should have done so in a way that makes it clear that it's the college professors who we're supposed to be laughing at, not the Congress Members. There's a difference between satire and being the thing you claim to be making fun of, and sketches like this, for all intents and purposes, are a prime example of being the thing.

How did they manage to watch that hearing and end up thinking Stefanik was the ridiculous character in need of some satire treatment?
I guess what snl is trying to tell us but they are a bit too shy to openly say it, is that:
"genocide is OK depending on the context of course" .
Let's make fun of all those people who aren't OK with that statement.
No, the problem is what constitutes calling for genocide. Does supporting Israel mean you support genocide. Some say yes. Do you think we should ban Israel supporters from expressing their views on campus? Clearly not. Language is always context dependent, and meaning depends on a speakers intention. The universities actually supplied the correct answer.
Accusing israel of comiting genocide is victim blaming and completely false. Now if you have college kids on campus screaming antisemitic slurs" from the river to the sea" and ignoring the fact that on October the 7th there was an indiscriminate massacre on civilians in Israel based on the fact that they were jewish that means that on U.S campuses you have problems with arab extremism@juliandoespolitics4275

SNL hasn't been funny since the 90s.
I’m beginning to wonder if the SNL writers are antisemitic. While I’m generally no fan of Elise Stefanik, I appreciated the grilling she gave the university presidents. Many of us applauded her questions, which led to the uncovering of apathy towards antisemitism on the part of the university presidents. Turning Representative Stefanik into an irritating buffoon in this sketch was in horrific taste. It was not only not funny, it was insulting.
Who amongst us doesn't hate semantics?
If you are mad at them making fun of an insurrectionist who onlu “cares” about Jews and not Palestinians when over 7,000 Palestinian children have been murdered you might just be an Islamophobe. How are you going to cry antisemitism when you can’t even spell it correctly?
@@maxotterland Me. Now what?
@cqbarnieify So well said!
This is the correct take. Just because we don’t like the person asking the questions doesn’t mean they aren’t good questions.
This sketch is an INSTANT CLASSIC SNL sketch. Not because of how good it was, but because it was one of SNL's greatest flubs. It's gonna be right up there with the likes of: musical guest Ashlee Simpson getting caught lip-synching to the wrong song, Chris Farley's Bennett Brauer character flying on Weekend Update but the wires got tangled up, and of course Charles Rocket and Jenny Slate dropping their respective F-bombs.
The other ones sound cool. This is just evil.
The funniest thing here is that people made this.
They seriously made fun of Elise Stefanik more than the three women who wouldn’t condemn speech calling for genocide against Jews? Unreal.
they knew what they were doing. if any of them had said "we condemn speech calling for the genocide of jews," stefanik would have immediately labeled any criticism of israel and/or support for palestinian civilians as "calling for the genocide of jews." hate the conservatives like stefanik who are turning this into a game, not the academics who have her pegged and won't get roped in.
SNL writers are part of Leftist Islamofascist alliance
Stefanik was misrepresenting the definition of the speech in question. They weren't allowing her to get away with it so gave vague answers. The point was the speech in question is not antisemitic. People are trying to broaden the definition now so anyone pro Palestine is suddenly supporting genocide. But it's funny because their only concern is genocide against the jewish (which no one is asking or calling for except minority radicals maybe if anyone), the genocide against the Palestinians don't count
Noticed that too. Absolutely insane.
@@dietotakuThen why did they retract their statements the next day and one president has already resigned?

Because no one can be pleased, other than having their beliefs validated uncritically and having their balls fondled. From trolls in comment sections, to dumb fucks on Tik Tok with inspiration poster of Bin Laden. Both are idiots, who use Jews as pawns in a absurd game that serves no one. So much for the bigoted half brains who claim Jewish people run the world right? Pretty Sad.
Not really. Since Jews and Arabs are covered by the definition of "semitist" (Webster and Oxford Dictionaries)... then the skit may have hit the mark by saying that she was narrowing the definition not to include others who are covered by the same word she is using. The University presidents have all different nationalities and ethnic backgrounds to consider in giving an answer. They cannot say we will give priority to Lutherans but not to Methodists. Universities for eons have been places where debates are held on anything controversial WITHOUT having to resort to violence. It's only in the current Era that Universities have been pushed to only endorse blacklisting of unpleasant voices by all sides of the political machineries. While I find grievious, appaling fault in the legal way these presidents gave their answers, I find it just as appalling that the same congress members don't give the same human right endorsement to Palestinians/Muslims and call for end to violence against them here in the US.
Eh. I think those who cannot distinguish Jewish/Palestinians from Israelis/Hamas are the only ones who didn't laugh at how sad of a mess we are in. WE IN THE US are sadly still stuck in the mentality of the Crusades over the battle for Jerusalem. Jews, Christians and Muslims still sadly have blanket support/opposition based on that thinking. It's why it's so hard to have constructive dialogue when everyone is holding a dagger at the dinner table.
