- These are unedited videos of a course on General Relativity and Cosmology given by Prof.T.Padmanabhan (IUCAA, Pune) at IISER, Pune during Jan-April 2009. If you use them or if you have comments, it would be appreciated if you send a mail to paddy@iucaa.ernet.in.
Just heard of Prof. Padmanabhan's passing away. Thank you sir for all the education and for making seemingly complex concepts accessible without compromising on the rigor. You will be missed. 🙏
Very sorry to learn about his demise. RIP
I am also feeling sad over his untimely passing. May His soul be granted peace. Came across His lectures today only.
This lecture reviews Special Relativity, introduces the 4 vector formalism, time dilation as a consequence of relative motion, and derives the Lorentz transformation
Thanks
One of the best intro by a teacher. The hallmark of excellence and being an angel to students
Push to 7:20 to skip all the homework and assignment stuff.
Thank you dude😂😂
I've taken relativity (SR and GR) at multiple schools. This guy is the best I've seen...demeanor AND clarity.
Did you work out the steps of Lorentz transformation as mentioned here?
Great professor! Humble lucid and clear, with a sweet soothing voice. 🙏
An extraordinary clarity of exposition. And fully ambidextrous. Never seen anything like it! Magnificent teacher, indeed.
We are really going to miss you sir!! RIP!
Come back soon! A lot of students want to learn more from you!!!
one of the Biggest contributions of Einstein to physics: Einstein summation convention!!!
What's its advantage?
India's best physicist. You are missed.
marvellous sir, u were always my childhood inspiration......
I actually went back and confirmed that he switched his hand on the board. :P Thanks sir! Nice lecture. (y)
yes
Great lecture and help me a lot in research topic of dark matter and dark energy
I like how we all have this moment immortalized of someone entering class late, Casually. He wasn’t busting into the door running to his seat. He was relatively on time tho.
lecture was so clear and beautiful. Thank you sir. RIP
I really like this derivation of the Lorentz transformations.
Did you try it out yourselves?
Crazy way of doing this but valid way of doing this
Great lecture Sir, we the physics learners will always miss u.RIP SIR
really very clean ..great to listen
This is like going to the bats wedding....if you learn one way from a book or a proffessor you have one formalism and some symbols...then the other books and other proffessors have their own formalism and their own symbols..
Can’t believe he is no more 💔
Greatest teacher i ever seen...
Have you ever heard the name H C Verma
Best Physics Teacher Ever
@@hetbariya9380 depends actually. HC Verma is good for high school level stuff, not so much for complicated stuff like GR. I have met HC personally and attended Tanu's lectures so I can say.
@@hetbariya9380 any Indian guy who's ever been here or found this lecture series would in no way not know HC Verma.
@@hetbariya9380 🤣
He seems to be fully ambidextrous.
he's a genius
That is a sign of exceptional brain function.
He passed away this year. R.I.P. sir.
How come no one noticed that the man is ambidextrous! He's writing and drawing with both hands.
Love him.
Finally I come to know "why ds"
Very nice one sir
ഈ sir മലയാളി ആയിരുന്നോ... 😔
Yes. From Trivandrum.
Love you Sir
@ 1:19:57, prof emphasized on using differentials instead of coordinates. I could not understand the motivation. Can someone explain?
I like this man.
May God bless you sir
do invariant and co variant convey the same meaning at all context
so where is the discussion about his problem with the Weinberg's text notations
This is very advanced bro 😅
Rip🙏
Om Shanti Professor. 🙏
subtiles plzzz
16:30 Two postulates
39:30 Einstein summation convention
He writes with both hands😶😐
Ambidextrous.. almost all genius's traits from Leonardo Da Vinci to Nikola Tesla

🙏🙏🙏
great....
Guys, anyone has the link to the exercises and problem sets?
It is not available anywhere. Ask jhanakar for this. He has recently submitted his thesis 😂😂😂
sachiraj mishra 😂😂 will ask surely.
@@shobhitkhajuria7464 we can discuss this ideas over WhatsApp video call if you wish.
sachiraj mishra after i m done with thesis
Ok
landau and lifshitz in the first of the suggested readings? this professor is insane.
He can even write with both the hands...
its the best book
You've probably never read Landau 2. It has an obsolete notation, but when I found myself struggling with concepts in GR (usually frome reading Weinberg which was my first book) I always found great clarity in their expositions, more than any other textbook.
@1:06:51
Paddy says we can calculate the functional forms f0 and f1 after substituting x = gamma * v * tau and t = gamma * tau. But how? Can someone help me out? I tried but somewhere I am getting wrong.
You can contact Professor Padmanabhan on his email id is paddy@iucaa.in
Did you get it's derivation?? Even I got something different
If yes can you please mail me on sarveshgharat19@gmail.com
Yes I did. Its quite easy.
@@advntr_to1065 Please share.
@@IUCAALibrary Now that's not possible anymore :-(
Supeb😍
some improvement is required
Was this course being attended by postgraduate students?
Undergrad. I attended this.
@@pariveshplayson Hi, do you have the course assignments ?
👍👍👍

Step 1 tell how marking system works
2 refer a couple of German authors
3 undertake an arbitrary coordinate
Do math transfrmation
Do math write laws of physics
Realize it doesn't look like astrophysics go back
😂😂 are you dumb , tryin to be genius and showing your rizzologist to others , lol he is the greatest scientist of Indian history
the fundamental flaw in this lecture is that he has assumed without proof that ds is invariant. If you assume that special relativity becomes easy and straightforward. The interesting part is showing why it is invariant ...
I think you haven't seen the lectures properly.. He proved the invariance of spacetime interval using the arguments given in classical theory of fields by Landau Lifshitz
His teaching is lacking. Makes things unnecessarily difficult by skipping steps. Writing them out would make it a methodical and straightforward follow.
