    President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leads the inspection of farmlands affected by the El Niño phenomenon at Sitio San Carlos, Barangay Central in San Jose Municipality, Occidental Mindoro on April 23, 2024.
    Five (5) towns in Oriental and Occidental Mindoro have recently been declared under a state of calamity as a result of the El Niño phenomenon. These towns include Mansalay and Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro, as well as Looc, Magsaysay, and San Jose in Occidental Mindoro.
    Reports indicate that approximately 1,000 farmers have been directly affected by this calamity, with an additional 1,000 farmers currently undergoing verification. The drought has caused significant damage to around 2,000 hectares of agricultural land.
    Joining the Chief Executive are Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. and Assistant Secretary Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra of the Department of Agriculture (DA), National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Administrator Eduardo Guillen, Occidental Mindoro’s Lone District Representative Leody Tarriela, Occidental Mindoro Vice Governor Aniceta Diana Apigo-Tayag, and Departement of Agriculture (DA)-4B Executive Director Christopher Bañas.
