  • In this series we re-commission bikes that have been sat a long time, these are customers bikes so we have a deadline and a budget to keep to.
    Watch us get a bike that’s been sat for 3yrs and does not run, then get it road worthy again and back on the road with some nice shiny new parts. We battle fuelling issues, clutch issues and mechanical issues to get it road worthy!

    That old clutch fluid 😳 Great bikes was the FJ. About 8 years ago I rescued an FJ1100 that had sat in a garage for 20 years. It took me a year to get it roadworthy and I still have it today.

      Aye 20yrs sat would require some work! We are working on one now that's been sat since 2005, wanted to make it ep5 resurrection workshop but we didn't have time to film it unfortunately. Would have made a good episode too. Keep hold of it, it'll make a cracking bike!

    I cannot help but think of the many maintenance advantages of air cooled engines, space is tighter for certain but not having to deal with a cooling system and the relief, every oil change of not finding coolant in the crankcase! I do all my own wrenching so small things like V-twin compared to I-4 are foremost when choosing a new to me machine. You're a great specialist and mechanically savvy as you point out the necessity of deadlines and having to work smart as well as working hard. No shortcuts, but in my area a good specialist is impossible to hire. It's fair to say even absolute novices that gun-deck every step as well as botch a customers repair are in demand. It's fair to say a man with a reputation and, to be candid, fortitude, to post their work is indeed worth a premium.

    I had 2 FJ1200. The last one a 3XW was a very good bike for both touring (with complete luggage and tank bag + low line exhaust from XJR) and sport (no luggage and high end carbon exhaust). Good memories.

      @@rbmcstore2497 yes i still ride but no more with FJ1200 because i moved to other country (12 000 km far) and could not bring it with me (big regrets), and also because i'm getting old and being tall (6'5") my knees became incompatible with the riding position on FJ ;-).

    Nice FJ. Lovely grunty engine, comfy and reliable. A little thirsty but not as bad as some of the V twins. Great bikes. Had a 1TX replaced a noisy starter chain on mine which meant a full engine strip. Nice engines to work on with a great club which hires out the specialised tools needed here and there. Great video, thanks.

      Thats a shame, what area are you located? I can still have a word with my driver in regards to a price if you like however a courier probably would be cheaper. Or using a more local garage that has a great name, word of mouth is usually best bet for a good mechanic 👍

      @@rbmcstore2497 Hello. Thanks for your reply and apologies for my late response. Well I'm in mid Hertfordshire (St. Albans) and it's a long way from Darwen ( I know because I used to travel regularly from here to Lostock and Chorley). So although I was tempted it's sort of too impractical at that distance. I am (was) quite competent mechanically/electrically but my knees just don't like it anymore! If you know someone like yourself who's local to me I may be interested. Failing that maybe I could get some replacement knees!!

      Hi, no we didn't do this off camera, we had a limited budget to go off as it was a customers bike. We had to be careful how much we spent but I did explain to him to keep an eye on the fork seals as they will be a few years old now and rubber goes brittle over time. For now he wants to enjoy the bike, it's something we can do in the near future 👍

    • @rbmcstore2497
      @rbmcstore2497  Před 2 měsíci

      Something I do always recommend, they were however in great condition (almost new) and already spending a lot on other things so saving where we can for the customer ended up making a huge difference in cost and time. Its is something I always recommend however would make pretty much no difference with these sprockets.

    I am just starting to work on an old FJ 1993 . Its runs but very rough .Theres a rattle from the left side of the engine ??? any ideas I thought maybe the alternator. Typical Yam carb removel a pure pain .Where did you get the carb kits? I also need a full kit for a Kawaski zephyer 550.The other bike that i am working on is a mint CBR1000F 1992 needs a timing chain tensioner.I believe you can fit this from the top. So here goes lol. Nice stream thanks .BTW i am a quali bike mech for over 40 years .

    • @rbmcstore2497
      @rbmcstore2497  Před 6 měsíci

      The left side could be a few things, alternator, rotor, idle gear for the starter motor or something related to that, crank bearing, something loose e.g. bolt on the stator. The carb kits I got from WEMOTO they have a trade section WMD Parts 👍

  • @cbrider726
    @cbrider726 Před 6 měsíci +1

    BTW i used an Ultrasonic cleaner for carbs whats your thoughts . I find that it sometimes works and others no. E10 fuel is a major problem on the age of bikes that i work on and its causes so many problems. Could you do a stream related to this i am sure that theres lots of guys and girls that would love some info. So many classic bikes go to waste because of this issue .

    • @fizzyridertoo
      @fizzyridertoo Před 6 měsíci +1

      It made a right mess of the carbs on my FZ1 (Fazer 1000) and I don't think I'd have got too far without an ultrasonic. Next up is a 1975 Yamaha DT250 that hasn't run for quite a while. The tank is just a block of rust internally so I've no doubt the ultrasonic will come in useful again.

      We did actually, after we fitted them we vacuum balanced them, we have actually left quite a lot off camera as the original footage was over 40mins long. We took LOTS of footage out, the carburettor was actually broken and we replaced carb #3 with a replacement, we also kept this out to keep it around half an hour 👍
