  • First off I want to say this is a great vehicle. The engine is good for 300,000 miles easy. Parts are cheap also.

    Unlock Relay shorted out. Part 8867. I'm going to replace both the lock and unlock relays. I may also have to replace the entire Dash fuse box. Unfortunately I replaced the liftgate actuator for no reason but it was only 15.00.
    This part is common to GMC Suburbans Yukons also. Hope this helps leave comments below

      Is there a way to test the relays the way that you can test to see if a fuse is blown. Or did you just go and buy two new relays?

    • @karlgruber3973
      @karlgruber3973 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I just "shotgunned" it. Bought two new relays and plugged them in. Got lucky. They were cheap on eBay.

      @@karlgruber3973 I think the guy who made the video said this won't work if the back door still locks & unlocks.
      This only works if the back lift gate only, is broke.

    So I noticed both of mine are in good condition and the ofther fuse for the tail gate is good also, what else can cause this to not open the tailgate or rear door I. General

      @@joseserna4918 swap them around. See if problem moves with the relay. Has to be bad relay. Just find it is the issue usually.

    Did you fix it yet? Did you replace the fuse box or did new fuses/relays work?

    • @B_HarTz
      @B_HarTz Před 4 lety

      My actuator went out, I replaced that. And after a full day of working correctly, it stopped . Then my dash. Said “replace tailgate fuse.” And here I am. Ordered 2 new relays and waiting for them to come in

    • @MegaHowtoMan
      @MegaHowtoMan  Před 4 lety +6

      Yes. The relay was inserted in the wrong slot and shorted. New relay fixed it. This is the relay panel at the driver side door.

      @B_HarTz Před 4 lety +3

      MegaHowtoMan wheeew , that was a cheap fix for you then instead of replacing the whole fuse box due to that area being fried...ya mine is in the same area and requires 2 relays, should be here in a few days and we’ll see if it fixes my problem

      @@B_HarTzis there a a way to test the relays like testing fuses with a digital multimeter?

  • @danielvega4076
    @danielvega4076 Před 2 lety +1

    Is it possible for the relay to fail in a way where it ONLY affects the hatch lock and hatch glass lock? Or does it always affect the rear doors also? Idk if I should order a relay or a lock actuator both gonna take like 2-3 weeks to get here.

    • @MegaHowtoMan
      @MegaHowtoMan  Před 2 lety +2

      If your rear door locks still work it's the latch actuator. The relay is cheap so get one anyway.

      I've had my Tahoe for 10 years and this is the 2nd time that the liftgate/ hatch has stopped unlocking. The back & passenger door unlock fine.
      The first time I took it to a repair shop & they charged ALOT to take the panel off & replace the actuator in the lift gate.
      Now I'm going to try this 1st.
      The weird thing is on my way home from work, I got in the truck and literally heard a noise in the back of the truck when I turned the ignition to on. Almost like a popping sound.
