      I have been using Poweramp for years. Recently switched to UAPP and will never go back. Major reason I prefer UAPP is it's far more responsive and snappy when it comes to library browsing. When it comes to audio quality, both are great. I am using the app with a Hiby R4, not an Android phone.

    Hi, I asked an audio "guru" on whose advise I'd bought a well regarded DAC dongle & an IEM, if UAPP would improve the sound quality.
    He said it would if you're on Android 13 or below.
    But Android 14 no longer resample the data so there's no benefit with buying the UAPP.
    Your take?

    • @meh-hair-Vaughn

      I think he might be right.
      I believe Android 14 no longer has the resampling issue, from what I've heard...
      But still, you may want to buy the UAPP app just for it's user interface.
      It has a very good UI/UX design that I much prefer over the stock music player on Android.

    Hiby app on mobile also offers by-passing Android audio processing and it is free. Should I stick with it or buy the UAPP. I don't know which sounds better Hiby or UAPP and I have a DAC (ifi go link) and IEM (Truthear hexa). What should I do please recommend?

    • @meh-hair-Vaughn
      @meh-hair-Vaughn  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I'm not sure you would experience a difference in sound quality, assuming the Hiby app is also sending the audio signal out in 'bit perfect' mode to the external DAC.
      What I really like about the UAPP app is it's user interface. So between Hiby and UAPP, assuming their functionality is the same, it might just come down to personal preference for UI/UX.

    Can you explain your comment at the beginning that this video is not that useful for people that use wireless/Bluetooth buds? What offline music player would you recommend for that situation? Thanks!

    • @meh-hair-Vaughn
      @meh-hair-Vaughn  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The thing is, Bluetooth in it's current form (as of late-2023) doesn't support transfer of lossless audio wirelessly. It compresses audio and then transfers it since it just doesn't have sufficient bandwidth.
      That's why if you use wireless earphones, which typically use Bluetooth, you won't benefit all that much from the main feature of this app.
      Don't get me wrong, you can still use this app with wireless bluetooth earbuds since, according to me, it has one of the best user interfaces of all music player apps and is extremely feature-rich.
      That being said, I would still recommend using an external USB-C DAC along with wired earphones (IEMs) to get the best audio quality...

    • @adiands850
      @adiands850 Před 5 měsíci

      @@meh-hair-Vaughn Thanks very much, I appreciate the explanation. I just have Bluetooth buds, therefore it seems I can just judge the apps on features and interface (rather than audio quality). Thankyou for this! It's a shame HiBy app doesn't show whether the music is playing bit perfectly or not, like the UAPP. When i played a flac file on both samsung music and HiBy app, i could barely say the difference. I guess UAPP is worth a shot considering Hiby's shortcomings.

    • @meh-hair-Vaughn
      @meh-hair-Vaughn  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Thank you for the comment. Although, please don't get hung up on 'bit perfect'.
      I often use EQ which just makes the music sound much better as compared to 'bit-perfect'.
      Sometimes, you just need EQ to correct for deficiencies in your hearing/in the music/in your headphones, etc.
      Bit-perfect is not the end-all be-all.

      @@vaishnavprasad7789 Nah, that's one thing I've realized over the years. EQ is your friend.
      I EQ around 80% of the songs I listen to, even if that means no bit-perfect, it just sounds better.
      Only around 20% I listen to 'bit perfect', since I don't feel the need to EQ these 20% of songs.

    Well what if my phone have 3.5 mm jack do i still need hi res dac??

    • @meh-hair-Vaughn
      @meh-hair-Vaughn  Před 8 měsíci

      In most cases, no you don't.
      If you have a fairly recent Andriod phone from a major brand (Samsung, OnePlus, LG, Google, etc.), it'll probably have an internal Hi-Res DAC in it. All you'll have to do is change the settings in the UAPP app as I've described in this video and then plug in your IEMs into the 3.5mm jack.
      However, do keep in mind that different DACs may have different sound signatures.
      So by connecting an external USB-C DAC to your phone and then connecting your IEMs to the external DAC, you might get a different sound (might be better, might be worse - you won't know until you try).
      Hope this helped!

      I'm not sure to be honest.
      While the internal Hi-Res DACs are good enough for most purposes, they just aren't powerful enough to drive some high impedance headphones (like some Sennheisers and HiFiMans) or make them sound their best.
      Most internal Hi-Res DACs can drive IEMs though.
      But again, just because they can technically 'drive' them doesn't necessarily mean that having an external DAC won't benefit.
      For all you know, using an external DAC might give you better sound quality (if not 'better' sound quality, perhaps a 'different' sound profile that you might enjoy more).
      Again, you won't know until you try...
