- On this day back in 1991....32 years ago, we've lost a legend that'll never be forgotten. David Ruffin of The Temptations passed away today back in 1991 from a overdose at the age of 50.
Instead of mourning his lost that has lasted for over 30 years, as usual, we'll celebrate his life and keep his legacy alive!
I wanted to share with you this footage from the 1992 documentary, "The Original Leads of the Temptations," when David was in one of his last interviews before he passed that same year in 1991. Although it's not the full footage, I'd thought it was cool to piece those footages together. He talks about meeting Berry Gordy before Motown and his gospel background, how the Temptations connected in harmony. When he was kicked out of the Temptations, and showing love and respect to Dennis Edwards (his replacement in mid-1968) and Eddie Kendricks.
David will live on forever in all of us. Despite his troubled soul and the many things he'd been throughout his life, he was always known for being a talented, tall, slim, Temptation legend. As long as we keep his legacy alive, his spirit will live on forever and will always be remember ❤️.

A great talent, a great singing voice sadly taken away from the world too EARLY, but now reunited with his brother Jimmy (who passed away 23 years later...(2014). Excelsior!

Happy belated birthday (January 18th)
I saw David Ruffin about 3 months after he was dismissed from the Temptations at the Capitol Theater in Chicago. I was playing in a talent show. Bobby, the leader of the Vancouvers, saw David Ruffin backstage and asked him to come out and sing, "I wish it would rain." Needles to say the audience went wild! 1970?😅

So it's true. He felt he was above the others in the temptations. He confirmed it.
I will never speculate how drugs affect the brain outside of knowing it does it and more but he speaks smoothly but also is quick with his memory. Like at 16 i did this and in 1958 i met this guy. Memory is on point for sure.
If you noticed throughout the years a lot of R&B singers have emulated his sound .

Never tire of it. Look for details normally not noticed. Names on the marquee of the theater at the beginning of the mini series. So cool.
His performance did not award him favor with Motown as a single artist. His personal life is his own business.

My God what a loss
Far as Dennis singing My Girl, Edwards had so much respect for Ruffin he never did sing it. When Dennis was in the group Paul sang My Girl. when Paul left the group Richard Street sung it. Dennis did sing other Ruffin songs such as Ain't Too Proud to Beg or I'm Losing You but he felt My Girl strictly belonged to Ruffin.
And David Ruffin will not sing cloud nine out of respect for Dennis Edwards because I think David knew that cloud nine was Dennis' song.
He seems more humble than the movie
Yeah the movie dramatized his character, basically the villain of the movie like every movie does but he wasn't always like that. David is a very misunderstood human being
I wonder why he was never asked about what he thought about the bio movie.
@@tiyahisrael By the time the movie was made, he had already passed away. David died in 1991 and the movie was out in 1998.
To the credit though he’s on tv you ain’t going to act a fool on tv but the movie really doesn’t tell the whole story Otis also struggled with drugs David was arrogant now I read the book they actually gave him three chances

I would say the movie cause everybody glorifies him for his bad side but realistically, he abused women and did drugs. His childhood trauma led to his self destruction, as he grew up abused, used, and not really feeling loved. He's often looked at as a misunderstood individual
