In this clip, Smokey Robinson recalled his role in the Temptations film where the famed actor Leon who portrayed David Ruffin delivered the famous line "Ain't nobody coming to see you Otis!" Smokey talked about how he was approached to work on the score of the project and why he uses The Temptations mini series and "Ray" as his standard for music biopics. - Zábava
One of my older homeboys and his wife went to see the Tempts like 5 years back. Otis was the only original left and we all said, “After all these years we finally going to see Otis!”
People always came to see Otis. The real David never said that!

@@mikhailabunidal9146 I just meant, that Smokey is good friends with Otis. So had he known Vlad was going to mention that line "from the movie" he might have guarded his laugh a bit more.
But, by his laugh... you can tell that Smokey knows that all those songs he wrote for the Temps were usually for David or Eddie. Adding some validity to Leon's statement.
NGL, whenever I see Smokey's scene with him singing at Blue's funeral, I cry my eyes out. 😭😭

because he sadly passed away about two years ago and even though the time I knew him was short it was one the greatest privileges to speak with him and him encouraging me about my singing voice and letting me know that I didn't have sound like him or anyone else but myself and that myself was enough :)

It’s kinda pathetic that Otis’ only claim to fame is that he’s still breathing. Meanwhile most folks are _still_ out here inquiring about, talking about, loving, imitating and jamming to THE VOICES (David, Eddie, Paul & Dennis). Their legacies are solidified and rarely were they ever asked questions about Otis but the reverse can’t be said now can it? 🤭

I have heard that reference three times, including on NBA TV, and I actually watched the mini-series... I'm surprised it's so popular. I think it's BECAUSE Smokey came up with it.

The one thing I like after reading the autobiography of the temptations was that Otis Williams and Melvin Franklin were cousins and Richard street the one who replaced Paul Williams was the third cousin also after just my imagination the next single to be released from the temptations was smiling faces sometimes and I listened to the full version and the remix that was going to be another hit song but David ruffin pulled Eddie Kendricks to his level by requesting that he leave the temptations but here comes Damon Harris and the rest is history

The emotional ballad quality was not the same with dennis in the group as david was the “soul” of the group. Which is why the group could not produce the same quality of live songs and smooth ballads with dennis voice. Please educate yaself on David before you speak on him.
