  • Almost all airlines have a place they call home - the main hub, where they station crew and have their maintenance base. The United States is home to the world's largest single airline hub, but also to more nomadic low-cost point-to-point models of operation. It's good to live near an airport that is a hub of one of the major airlines. This means that you can get direct flights to all the major and many of the smaller airports. That is my situation, living in Central New Jersey, Newark Liberty is where I fly in and out of and I fly United almost exclusively. The downside is that the United terminal is the most crowded at Newark and drop-offs, pick-ups and TSA are always busy or beyond busy and you have to make extra time for everything, especially for TSA, where the line and wait can be nightmarishly long and stressful when trying to make it to the gate in time.

    I haven't flown through ORD, but geez, if United have more activity there than DEN and IAH (which I have been through), then that's a heck of a hub.

    • @Micg51
      @Micg51 Před rokem +2

      Currently Denver is busier, ORD can’t really expand due to it being a large hub for AA as well. Also gets a lot of international traffic that DEN doesn’t have.

    • @johniii8147
      @johniii8147 Před rokem +1

      @@Micg51 It's not really because of AA. AA has been reducing flights at ORD. It's mostly a gate constraint issue. That may change when the new terminal opens.

      ORD is interesting. I have flown out of it with four different airlines five times. First time was with delta both ways, second, third, and fourth times were with American Airlines both ways, and fifth time was with United airlines for the arrival and Southwest for the departure.

      SkyWest may have a large fleet and operate a large amount of daily flights, but I'm not sure it can be called a "major" carrier when it doesn't sell it's own tickets or operate flights under its own name.
