Grew up with a WWII MK VII gas mask bag. Dad removed the inner separation and was my school bag from K-12. Also pressed into service as my Beaver, Cubs, and Scout day bag. Epic kit.

Army/navy surplus was a go-to for us kids that grew up in the 60s. Army gas mask bags and combat boots and navy peacoats were everywhere in my working class Philadelphia neighborhood. A trip to the surplus store was always a treat.

Pretty cool design, but that's a lot of weight to carry on one shoulder through the woods. I think with that much storage space I'd want to go with a backpack. I carried a Hidden Woodsmen haversack for years after I saw your video back in 2015 or something, but I get neck and back issues from it. I just gave up on sidebags.

52yr old here. When I carry a haversack, I have a tendency to carry two. Or I'll sling a 2qt canteen for counterweight. I do the same in my back pockets. Left pocket is a tri fold leather wallet. Right pocket is a cotton bandana, polyester buff, clr plastic emergency poncho, and a SOL ex-lg emergency blanket. Makes sitting for a while easier.

I’ve got the Haversack as well, quality stuff. Costs a lot when you live in Europe. Wirth every cent. I use my Haversack for work, dayhikes and such. Perfect bag. I’ve purchased the M55 because of the molle and D rings. That’ll make it fit perfectly to my motorcycle rack.
Just to show you how versatile Malcolms designs are

Hey Chris, well, I carried one of those for close to 20 years. It was my small “Jump Bag”. It is basically a small Army Combat Medic bag. It was for the bare essentials for medical emergencies ( ie. Breaks, GSW’s, wounds, etc. ) I carried a larger M-5 bag but the majority of the time I carried a special bag that one of the parachute riggers sewed up for me. I drew up the diagram of what I wanted and he sewed it up for me! Kind of looked like a medium Alice pack but it opened up at the sides and front. Gave me full access to all my equipment at once for Major trauma without having to dig thru a ruck pack! Looked a lot like what the “Mystery Ranch” packs look like now. I used that bag because a “Red Cross” on a white field is a BULLET MAGNET! Was medically retired February 1,1990 with 20 years.

I had a military issue medic tri-fold bag like that from the Vietnam era that was rubberized. It was called an instrument bag if I remember correctly.

I got mine in the mail yesterday. Packed it up with all my food items, my food kit, small fire tin. Kabar fishing kaster with braided line and essentials, as well as sewing items inside of it. A tarp with some guy lines and stakes. Solar power bank. Water, gloves, and a seat pad. Will be tweaking it up of course. 2 day Everglades trip this Monday for me. I LOVE it and it’s a new addition to my other Hidden Woodsmen gear. Amazing company
Much love from Miami and awesome video my friend!! 🇺🇸🙏🏽

Excellent Haversack from The Hidden Woodsman.
You turned me onto Malcom years ago. I've had a Haversack and backpack of his, and they've been around the planet with me.
I just added a Pathfinder water bottle kit onto the side molle of the backpack since the bag goes everywhere I travel by truck or SUV. It's become more than a travel pack now, it's my get home bag/travel pack and I can put the separate canteen kits on my motorcycles.
anyway, Malcom makes outstandingly great gear.
Loved your humor with the US emblem.

This looks like the Combat Lifesaver bag I carried in the Army with a couple of IV bags and extra medical supplies in the Army in the early 90s. They gave us a week long advanced First Aid course, which culminated in giving each other an IV. Idiot I was paired with had to stick me 7 times to make it...

It's a remake of the Navy Corpsman Unit 1 medical bag. They were rubberized material during the Vietnam War. Mine in the 80's with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines Weapons Company was made of a nylon material. I would shorten the strap and wear it on my waist with the bag resting on my Butt Pack. Corpsman today no longer use them.

I have a GI bag that seems to be exactly the same pattern as what's shown in the video, but the material is thin nylon. If there was ever a central clasp, it's long gone leaving only a metal loop; I suspect there was a cloth tab that worked like a 'hook & loop' fastener.
I've used it for a 1st aid kit for a long while; could mine be the medical bag you describe?
EDIT - yes, that's what mine is. Just found a pic of it.
