"Why not just run Cloudkey instead of Umori?"
Well for one Umori's an adorable ooze! And for two... *glares at Cloudkey's single printing and $20 price tag*
Another reason is that Umori actually works for superfriends decks, though if Umori is going to be your companion, the only possible commander is Lord Windgrace.
Goddamn, I remeber buying one of those for a sen triplets deck way back in like 2012. Shit was 3 dollars. I made pretty good bank.
Jesus, it's climbing that quickly? When I built my Rienne deck last year and bought a copy of Cloudkey it was around $10-$13
Yeah they keep thinking "Why not play this expensive card" is a criticism that matters
Winota, Joiner of Forces...finally creates an army combining goblins and humans.
Brokkos can get around Command Tax because it doesn't go up when cast from GY, only from Command Zone. In case anyone was wondering.
Technically it would go up the one time you cast it from the zone, but as long as you cast it from the graveyard from then on it won't go up, and you never have to pay Command Tax when casting from anywhere but the Command Zone.
Chevill + Strionic will fail in this case, due to the extra ‘if’. The copy will resolve, put a bounty, then the original will try, see that the ‘if’ now fails, and disappear
Think they meant the "when it dies" trigger.
@@TheSwedishTroll They did, but then they talked about putting 2 bounty counters on it.
I think they meant if you target the death trigger, you can draw two cards and gain 6 life.
@@Cyberium yes. but they also stated (paraphrased) "you can also copy the first trigger to get two bounty counters per turn". As Gunblade and Troll stated, that is incorrect.
@@Cyberium Nope, at 11:40 they talk about putting 2 bounty counters out there.
Hey y'all just a clarification, I believe Brokkos is still a 3/3 on Nissa's lands because of layers
Not if Brokkos is on top.
Jason Oshinko brokos will be a 3/3 due to Nissa affecting the creature with a characteristic defining ability wich takes priority over power/toughness of the creature
It's a 3/3 even on top
The land is a 0/0 with 3 plus 1 plus 1 counters and nothing else
Can confirm this. I was very confused when I tried that exact combo on MTGA the other day. I thought it was a bug until I read more into how mutate works with layers.
Rielle, the Everwise: *exists*
Tibalt: finally, a worthy deck
Remember regenerate and banding they were good

A little less than a year later and Tibalt, and his Trickery Ruined every format it was legal in until they fixed cascade and MDFCs.
Brokkos and Will-o-the-wisp does same thing as reassembling skeleton except its cheaper and gives flying. Thanks professor!
Definitely good, but not exactly the same. You have to hold up mana to regenerate. And if they Toxic Deluge or something it will stay dead.
Jimmy: "Yea, I like General Kudro. It's not great but it's not amazing." 😅
@Katrice Cates ok creep
8:16 Actually the land has no power and thoughness by default, Nissa gives them that power and thoughness, so since it's coming from a different source, you should threat that as if it was added as an ability to the card. So if you mutate Brokkos on top of a land with 3 counters, it would still be a 0/0 with 3 +1/+1 counters. You can try that on the Arena, I found out this on my first match with a deck including those cards
Maximiliano Galán actually if you mutate him on top, it would have his power and toughness because it takes the power and toughness from the top creature.
@@isaachowk2028 No because one of the lines of the text says that creature is a 0/0, and that way alters the base stats of the creature.
@@isaachowk2028 Incorrect. The way the ordering is all handled per layers, the land being a 0/0 is a persistent quality leading the resulting mutation of a Nissa land to be a base 0/0 regardless of whether the new Mutating creature is placed on top or bottom. Similarly, manlands that get animated and then Mutated are still subject to their "until end of the turn" clause, yet the overall Mutation remains a creature and loses all of the effects that the animated manland had, such as its P/T or additional ability keywords. The Mutation does, however, retain the activated ability of the manland to allow it to animate again, but if you choose to do this, it will turn the entire Mutation into that animated manland.
Josh, on Rielle: “I don’t know how you win with this”
Psychosis Crawler. Brallin.
I turned on the episode and the wonderful singing scared my cat and she ran into my couch.
You mean they gave your cat haste.
@@ancientswordrage Actually made me chuckle.
I'm so glad that i found this channel by far one of my favorite podcast to listen to
Re: Yidaro, because of how his card text is worded, if you cycle him, he hits the graveyard, goes to your library, then you shuffle the library, then you draw the card you cycled for. It's all one block of text.
I used you code link thing when buying some cards from card kingdom to make my first commander deck
Thank you jimmy and josh for giving me some ideas of a commander deck with the new ikoria cards
"Winota isn't broken." -Josh 2020
YES, SHE IS!!!
@@theresareyna7380 if you’ve played standard on mtg arena lately jeskai Winota is overpowered and needs to be banned
@@aidenhansen9899 please, this is in the context of commander. The only reason jeskai winota works in standard is because the existence of Agent of treachery. That card do not fulfil the color identity of winota in EDH. Also... Anything involving a combat usually not really shine in commander. Its okay but not even close to be great or broken.
Winota makes 1v1 games miserable.. But I have no idea how she'd fare in a multiplayer game.
It's not Agent of Treachery that makes it broken in Standard, it's Skyknight Vanguard.
As soon as Nethroi was spoiled, I got to work on what’s definitely my strongest deck. It’s a Hulk deck essentially, and as soon as I get 7 mana and a way to tutor Hulk, I’m good :)
It's funny how green went from underdog to one of the most powerful colors in Magic. Everyone just figured out how mana acceleration is helpful, even Wizards realised that and now they're making some of the best green cards ever.
Green has been creeping up in power since before Dominaria, that and simic has always been great and is just getting better
Since since beginning of the game, it went from:
Blue: god tier
Black: good
Red: decent
White: crap (except for a few cards that go well with blue)
Green: just bad
To now:
Green: top tier
Blue: very good
Black: good
Red: decent
White: crap
So I guess Green just jumped up and everyone else stayed the same.
@@JTProud I'd say blue is still better, at least in commander. Everything else I agree though!
@@megacaptcha5894 blue will always stay the best color because it owns counterspells. No other color can get these without heavy restrictions or flavor bending. While blue lost all of its flaws by now. Its not supposed to have big dudes, it has. Should not have kill spells, it has.
@ich3730 Torrential Gearhulk, Air Elemental, Master of Waves
Everything I have seen says the Nissa thing doesn't work due to layering.
Correct. You can see this in action on Arena. It will always by a 0/0 base P/T.
The Nissa thing at 9:00? Why wouldn't it work? You'd have Brokkos be on top, so it's a 6/6 and it has 3 +1/+1 counters. I'm not seeing why it wouldn't work.
Green Magic It’s a weird rules thing that’s not very intuitive. From my understanding, because Nissa’s wording specifically makes the land a 0/0 creature with 3 counters on it, it’ll always be a 0/0 creature regardless of other effects that might change that. So when you mutate onto it, the 0/0 identity still remains even if a different creature is now on top.
@@88wierddude but when you mutate on top of an amass ( which create a 0/0 and you put X +1/+1 counters on it) the creature's toughness and power do changes though
@@strickermic the idea is that the zombie IS a creature with 0/0, nissa makes a creature WITH 0/0. Its one of those minutia things with wizards. You could make the nissa land into another P/T if you use a P/T defining effect, but mutate is not a defining effect, its a characteristic.
@1:54:40 "Feel the Burn Josh! Very timely."
Oh you sweet summer child...
Putting a Bounty Counter on Brokkos is actually posing an interesting dilemma:
- Do you put it in the graveyard? Then I get 3 life and draw a card
- Do you put it in the Command Zone? Then you have to pay tax
I reckon the 3 life isn't particularly relevant, seeing as Brokkos is probably trying to win through Commander damage. Even so, if this is the only time you end up having to pay Commander Tax, it's probably worth sending it back to the command zone for once. Then again, if someone's just played a huge windfall, the extra card might not affect much.
@@lucarr1041 oh god like a brokkos voltron deck that circumvents commander tax, sounds like a lot of potential
Kogla's art is as close as they could get to King Kong without getting sued. Bonus trivia : Universal once sued Nintendo over Donkey Kong saying it violated the trademark they held on King Kong. NIntendo Won and rewarded their lawyer John Kirby by naming a video game character after him ( as well as with a sail boat named Donkey kong) . the pink marshmallow black hole we all know and love, Kirby.
Gotta love how Godzilla is all over this set but universal ruins it by gate keeping king Kong :(
Legends say Doug Bowser's father once stole Miyamoto's lunch money when he was a foreign exchange student in Japan
autobotjazz1972 so this is why one of Kirby’s move is to copy something he eats.. well played Nintendo
hey quick *massive* thing you forgot with Zirda: Zirda doesnt only affect the battlefield.
that means abilities you use in your hand like Cycling or Forecast or abilities from your graveyard and exile all cost 2 less! it even includes abilities of your opponent's permanents that you can activate like Nullhide Ferox!
*Cost 2 less unless that reduction would reduce the cost below 1
Wow! Love these commander reviews. Keep it up! Our channel does commander comparisons, maybe an idea for the future? (we compare the new commanders to older, similar, commanders and discuss which is better.)
Surprised they didn't mention how well firebreathing works for the buy a box promo Godzilla card
I never realized that but that is really good synergy
The red Cavalier is really good.
I enjoy how they say the cat card is great in a rat deck, it seems kind of ironic
An interesting interaction for Zirda that I did not see discussed is that Cycle abilities count as activated abilities, even if you can't activate them while the permanent is in play.
Hey guys, have you ever considered getting together with MTG Mudstah for an episode? I think it would be super cool for you guys and Andrew to do some kind of video, since you are both prominent members in the EDH community. He really deserves to be on this show at some point, just saying...
That would be so sick. They should also pair up with commanders quarters and everyone plays with one of commanders quarters budget decks.
Vial Smasher and the gang I would love to see that! The only problem is that right now they live on opposite sides of the country. Or maybe Muddstah lives in eastern Canada. Either way they would sadly have to wait to do it coz of plane travel :(
The issue with those super competitive ones is that there not as Interesting as game knights, the channels like muddash and causally competitive are that they are fast pace and just not as fun, they don’t politic or anything.
Eli L have you ever seen his mist form deck? I think that would work pretty well with game knights
Notsuspicious the judgmental I have not
Finally my boi reassembling Skeleton getting the recognition
I think they are under estimating Snapdax. That creature can be a great commander for an Infect deck.
Ive made a commander deck with snapdax, you basically just make it an ability alphabet soup. Kinda sad they just dissed him, I know he's not good but they didn't need to remind me :(
Love all the content you guys do. Ty you guys hope your safe and doing well
With keruga as companion, there are ramp cards you can play before turn 3, you just have to think outside the box a bit. Myriad landscape+ancient tomb, and search for tomorrow(suspended) can ramp early, and there are probably more. Not saying you should though over just having in the 99.
47:50 Sweet! Those two cards are perfect for the de-

Ah yes I’d rather my car loan *not* go into default as I’m about to pay it off...
It's not amazing, but it's not great
- Jimmy Wong
Umori is a great option at Companion. You can choose creatures and play a deck of Artifact CREATURE, Enchantment CREATURE, and CREATURE. There is a ton of Synergy available doing so.
That master of disguise reference josh was crazy. I haven’t thought of that movie in forever. Amazing!
Ya'll forgot to mention that sliver decks have such an easy time hitting Jegantha's companion requirements
So true. My hivelord deck already meets the requirement with no changes needed so im gonna use it as a companion
@@emeraldsky1289 same here. Like there's no reason to not include it
I checked, mine has 7 cards with double mana pips - so I don't meet the requirement. Bummer.
It does mean I don't get to play Patriarch's Bidding though...
Patriarch Bidding and Wild Pair are really cool cards in that deck though.
Jimmy: "I wanted to play Kroxa with Lurrus... but..."
Me: "Come to the Flexible-Hybrid-Mana side, Jimmy! We have cookies."
Since no one else is following directions; big kudos to the command cast crew behind the scenes for doing all these videos and doing the EDHREC casts as well. I personally authorize Jimmy and Josh to give you all a raise and use of their own personal sports cars on the weekends.
Rielle is by far my favorite new commander, wheel effects are super fun to play with and drawing double the cards as well is also great
That master of disguise reference hit right in the childhood.
I just realized that Jirina Kudro probably has red because she is in love with Lukka.
Or mom has red. She looks mixed-race and dad looks white as snow.
@@stevenluoma1268 Also, color-identity is not really inherited like race, but yeah, I mean, she has a mom after all.
Finally, someone other than me who pays attention to lore!
The reason she has red is right there in her flavor text "“Strength is what keeps us alive. Compassion is what keeps us human.”
Her father believes in strength, but she feels we need compassion or else we're just another monster. And red is the emotional color. At least that's my read of it...
In the book Lukka and Jirina are engaged to each other.
Perfect timing. Thanks for the content guys/team
At 40:24 Josh said "wheely wheely good cards" and smirked, and I just wanted to say that I appreciates that 🤣🤣
“He’s not turtley enough for the turtle club”. Hey! I-I got that reference...
Josh: You just have an even converted mana cost eldrazi that... none of them do that do they?
Kozelik, Butcher of Truth: Am I a joke to you?
Ulamog, the ceaseless hunger: am I also a joke to you?
Also Kozilek, the Great Distortion
Gregory Gilmour He was referring to an Eldrazi that auto shuffles when it hits the GY to prevent self mill
@@deadtreekid nvrmind then, I shouldn't have commented before getting there.
Oh boy eldrazi winter in commander.
Im in love with my Netroi deck its so much fun reanimating all creatures that enter with +1+1 counters
1:13:10 Just want to clarify, you can play Pact of Negation if you're playing Jegantha as your companion
The movie your looking for that has biollante in it is called “Godzilla vs Biollante”. Yeah Toho isn’t very creative when it came to their Godzilla film titles
haha 17:27 "It's not amazing, but it's not great"
XD
I can say that a friend of mine built a Winota deck, and I can definitely say that it's insanely good. The deck revolves around cards that make creatures that aren't humans, so that they can trigger Winota, and it has popped off a number of times
Jenatha, the Wellspring is going to be a nice companion with my Ur-Dragon :)
Kinnan, the first card I truly wish they just hadn't made.
I feel you. They're out of ideas. Saturating the EDH pool with a decade's worth of powercreep in one year is turning out to be actually depressing, the opposite of what I expected back when they announced 2020 as the "Year of Commander".
I left a post on his MythicSpoiler page much to this effect. I think with the coronavirus and things at home and everything else, he's the straw that broke my back on sticking with this game.
I hate the art so much, he looks like an SJW.
What about Urza?
@@nextgenwarrior It's the hair i hate for some reason... THAT STUPID STUPID HAIR!
/tg/ has been broiling over Ikoria. While most of the aggravation is attributed to Lurrus and the Companion mechanic at large, Kinnan is definitely in 2nd place for hate.
Mardu occasionally can't end a game, Snapdax however is going to just remove dudes, attack for commander damage a lot, and you can easily build a lowered curve deck that hones in on non-humans with upsides, some mutates, and a pile of removal/control. I think that commander is going to be a sleeper and end way more games then people will give it credit for.
I originally had a low opinion on three of the Apex Monsters: Vadrok, Snapdax, and Brokkos. After seeing some really cool builds for all three of them, I've changed my opinion on them. My favorite Mutate target I've seen for Snapdax has to be Needle Specter. I'm very curious to see what other people can come up with.
I'm also the most excited for Obosh, I already love my Torbran - Group Hate deck so being able to add black sounds like a fun alternate build.
40:20 - I Wheelie died, when Josh spoke here! Lmao
I like how most Vadrok discussions miss one important point: you need creatures to mutate Vadrok, but the deck encourages you to run almost zero creatures in it.
Both versions of Squee are a must in the Vadrok deck, as are creatures that can bounce themselves at will, like Blinking Spirit and Crovax, Ascendant Hero.
Or you can mutate on to Vadrok with other mutates
You could also run noncreatures that make creature tokens. Stuff like Dragon Fodder, Saheeli Sublime Artificer, or Dawn of Hope. Or you could run noncreatures that can become creatures, like Guardian Idol, Mishra's Factory, or Myth Realized.
token generation is also good
Kinnan is looking like a solid CEDH commander. Nothing that's gonna warp the format but he'll be suuuuuper solid
It might now that Flash is banned. It's already really strong both in fast games and grindy games.
For Keruga, you can use adventure creatures and split cards, though I don’t know how much that changes things
Nyxbloom Ancient, Jegantha the Wellspring (in your deck) and Sisay Weatherlight Captain (as your commander in superfriends deck). Jakob Wyss, Canada.
57:23 *Greetings, humans. You have entered the Companion Zone: your destination for all aspects of the remains of the formats once known as Standard, Pioneer, Modern, and Legacy. Enjoy your stay...*
ever since i bought the Guild Kits i've been working on making Guild themed decks and Simic offers a lot of options that i am not at all interested in, so i ended up building a Roalesk Clone tribal pseudo-voltron deck.
A what? Roalesk Clone tribal pseudo-voltron deck? Care to post a decklist?
That's fun!
Simic is a toolbox, every possibility is open for you and it's up to you to decide what you want but it's definitely not for everyone. I personally love the color combination since it is very flexible in what you can do with it. If you want a fun one i recommend Pyr/Thooty :)
Fun fact, Zirda reduces cycling costs and cycling is an activated ability. i have a standard deck using Zirda as a compainon to have a 1 cycling on each card that is 3 or less
Loved the quick master of disguise reference from Josh
Zidra is auto include in every Zacama deck!
I never even thought about that. Yeah they are very good together lol
I'm SHOCKED Zacama wasn't mentioned in that rundown of Zidra. On-demand Lightning Bolt/Nature's Claim/Healing Salve is sick!
chiflika ehhh not really. Doesn’t a lot of those deck running enchantment that double the mana lands can produce. So zirda would be able to be the companion. In the 99 though, auto include
@@swebartender4697 well yeah in the 99, i don't consider the companion mechanic playable in commander.
Can't wait to use some of these cards in my commanders deck
With Umori as companion you would only be able to choose a card type that your commander has. So if you wanted to go all planeswalkers you would have to use a planeswalker with the "you may use this card as you commander" text
I think if you wanted to have Keruga as companion you'd want to have a lot of cards with alternative casting costs that are less than the cmc of the spell or things like split/fuse/aftermath spells where the cmc of the spell is considered to be that of both sides combined.
24:49 josh was holding back how much this bothers him. boi almost slipped into some pg 13 rant talking about kinnan
Winota in Gishath is AWESOME, all the support cards for Dino’s are human shamans
As a Gishath player, can’t say I particularly want to devote a slot to Winota just so she can help me get Kinjalli’s Caller on turn ten or something.
I’m using kaheera so that won’t work for me. Also I agree that it’s maybe not the best
Preliminary tests on my side have been super awesome, I’ve got maybe 8 humans in the deck now and Winota acting as a second Gishath for the human side once the Dino’s get going is a real cool interaction, all I’m saying is give it a shot
I think it’s definitely doable, but maybe more difficult. If you get it to work though, I think it would be really fun
Maybe if you had a list or at least mentioned which Humans you’re using in this way, it’d be more understandable.
I have a Ramos, Dragon Engine deck. I took out 8 cards to use Jegantha as my companion! Super happy with the decision
Wooh hoo! yes, another command zone video! I’m very excited.
I need a playlist of all the songs you guys sing
SKIP!
Vedalken Orrey would be a permanent card in that gidora thassas Oracle situation fellas
Lmao
My favorite commander is Nethroi, Apex Predator. It just has so much value. A few weeks ago I made a Standard deck centered around graveyard recursion using Eerie Ultimatum, Nethroi, Apex Predator, and another abzan card I can't remember from thr Ikoria set. The thing is that I sack creaturrs for value (Teysa Karlov, Midnight Reaper, Liliana Dreadhoard Champion, anf Bastion of Rememberance). I then bring back cards (Eerie Ultimatum, Nethroi, Apex Predator, and some other cards) to the battlefield for value (The Great Henge and Guardian Project). I have early ramp in the deck, but I have 3 boardwipes for all these aggro decks in Standard.
For jodah/horde of Notions with jegantha companion, run chakram retriever. Tap jegantha, cast a spell, untap jegantha, repeat.
Doesn't Brokkos interact weird with war Nissa? Since the land has the text 0/0
Yes, it would still be a 0/0 with 3 +1/+1 counters
@@MehrGills It would not, if you put Brokkos on top. Brokkos would be a 6/6, ignoring the 0/0 below it, and have three +1/+1 counters on it.
Per rules cited here, layers are weird
www.reddit.com/r/MagicArena/comments/g9mtbm/brokkos_nissa_land_issue/?
@@LawnPygmy sorry, but due to the way layers work, it becomes a 6/6 in layer 1 (with mutate) and then in layer 7, the p/t changing effect of the elemental makes it a 0/0 again. Look up the ruling, or play it on arena if you don't believe me.
Strange to me that Chevill does a better job of what Kelsien(The Mardu Archer) is trying to do, all the mardu stuff has been a disappointment
@sean douglass I feel that the experience counter aspect stalls its success too. It would be cooler if Kelsein did damage equal to its power rather than 1 to a creature. Deathtouch is the only way to guarantee that.
On the other hand, Jirina and General Kudro make up for Human strength and exiling.
I've only gotten one eclipse sleeve purchase that came with not 100 but 101 sleeves every other time it has always had exactly 100 sleeves.
Today I saw a Thrasios/Akiri cEDH deck that ran Zirda as one of the cost reducers for Thrasios. Absolutely bonkers.
So sad. It’s just so sad they didn’t actually make a Zilurthra card.
I agree
I imagine they will print it eventually otherwise there was no reason to name it
Head cannon- based on the name, it's an unseen Ixalan dinosaur from a future set. It doesn't have an alternate art because it's not really from Ikoria.
One of you better use Godzilla in the next game knights
You can always use kaya’s ghost form to keep getting back a creature and have hateful eldion to get lots of draws
I just got done putting together a deck file on decked builder for a kelsien deck with zirda as companion i think will be pretty good.
layering, mutate does not work well with nissa, the make it a 0/0 over rules the mutate with layering
It does not work like that. Putting a mutate creature on top of the land does not mean it's a 3/3, it's a (whatever the p/t of the mutated creature is) with three +1/+1 counters on it. Arena is telling you wrong.
LawnPygmy no layering mutate is layer zero Nissan added a permanent layer change to the card to be a 0/0 much like how an aura would still buff or a counter would still buff the after result of the mutate, check with your local judge
Hello there. Hope it's winota. My favourite legend from this set. Or snapdax simply cause its really cool. Well then...
Winota is my favorite as well. I love the concept of him.

just a heads up, but Obosh could be played as a Companion for any deck which has Rakdos in its color identity, so it could be in a Jund deck with access to 1 mana dorks and stuff, as well as a Mardu/Grixis/4color/5color deck as long as it can meet the "Odd cmc-only" criteria. In which case, you could still find Odd ways to ramp and card draw with it
8:44 brokkos actually becomes a 0/0 with 3 +1/+1 counters on it. The land gains the ability 'this creature has p/t equal to 0/0.' please for the love of God do not do this, this is a nonbo.
Edit: 11:47 this doesn't work because of the 'if' clause
I think this episode really undersells the value of a companion. Starting with an extra card in your hand can be worth a lot of restriction. It's one reason why cEDH uses partners so much. Losing the companion (removed, exiled) is a thing, but I think it can be worth it for the extra card/value.
Speaking of cEDH, it's also evident this show has some power creep as well. Let's use Keruga as an example. Keruga is not useful in hyper-competitive metas, but the drawback of missing the first two turns is not all that stringent except in the most competitive metas. Having an extra card in hand every game that draws 3+ cards is supremely valuable. In addition, it allows for budget lands having more of a place - there's less negative for having tap lands. Dismissing that kind of value as "unplayable" is laughable... if I told a player they could always start the game with 8 cards and one of them is Shamanic Revelation, any good non-cEDH commander player would be interested.
All this points to something i have noticed for quite some time, which is Josh's "I'm not playing cEDH because I combo off turn 6 instead of turn 4" playstyle. It's just not realistic to the playgroups I enjoy and often play in, and I think it's damaging given his platform/audience. The self constructed decks he plays with would be the most expensive (and some of the most powerful) decks I have ever seen in the wild. As someone relatively new to Magic/EDH (been playing for 3 years), I think it really supports an arms race that isn't all that fun; I like $100-$200 commander decks that are optimized, and most of the people I play with at my LGS seem to as well. I worry Josh/command zone pushes players to think if they don't play Josh's $3,000 decks stacked with cEDH cards and call it "casual" they aren't playing EDH right.
For Lurros...you could potentially get more than 2 colors if they introduce a pair of 2cmc partners...currently there is only Akiri line slinger but in the future there is a possibility
I did win turn 3 with kinnan bonder prodigy with a playtest deck. That was awesome.
Please don't mutate onto Nissa lands. It doesn't work how you think. Regardless of if you mutate on top or bottom the creature is always a 0/0 with three +1/+1 counters on it. The land itself has an ability that makes it a 0/0, and the mutated pile always retains that ability.
And this is the reason i will leave mutate for wat is is.
Putting a mutate creature on top of the land does not mean it's a 3/3, it's a (whatever the p/t of the mutated creature is) with three +1/+1 counters on it. Arena is telling you wrong.
@@LawnPygmy Arena is actually correct. Nissa's +1 ability gives the land an ability that sets it's power and toughness to 0/0. This ability is carried over to whatever creature is put on top of the mutate pile.
This is also why it's generally not a good idea to mutate onto a pack rat.
Ban Companion as a mechanic it breaks the fundamental rules of Commander
That's like saying Partner breaks the rules too. It's just an added rule, rather than breaking it
The problem isn't that it breaks the rules, the problem is that the company's aren't spread evenly over the colors.
@@moonlight2870 thing is partner is two comanders and they both stay in the command zone. Companion feel like a imitation of partner and feels unnecessary.
@@moonlight2870 commander is a 100 card format, with no side boards or "outside the game" mechanics and now WotC can just print a card that breaks that fundamental rules of the format, the rules committee is just like "sure we'll accommodate you, but you cant use the otter" and nobody is batting an eyelash at it.
Partner and eminence are both pushing the format but it does not break those two previous rules. Having a companion gives you an extra eighth card in hand on top of your seven card hand plus your one or two commanders. Meaning you can have access to ten cards, 2 to 3 of which cant be interacted with.
Companion on it's only as a single mechanic breaks two fundamental rules for building commander decks. Also why hasn't anyone done something about that card Keheera it is an auto include for changeling, cat, elemental, nightmare, dinosaur, and beast tribal that run any of those colors.
@@vasylpark2149 Rat Colony also breaks one of the fundamental rules of commander. And that's the point of Magic the Gathering. Congratulations, you figured it out! If there's a rule on the card, it simply overwrites the current rule that exists for the format, basically. Are companions a stretch? Yes. But in comparison to all other formats that are currently being stomped on by Companions, Commander mostly just brushes them off to the side... because they are in general not very good.
The restrictions are pretty strict, so the upside needs to be greater than the restrictions you put on yourself. In every case of every companion I've seen so far... I wanted to try a single one out. One. And that's if I can be arsed to put the kind of money into the deck to even try making it somewhat powerful.
I have build a Karlov deck with Lurrus as a companion. It's pretty good since Karlov gets most of the removal and you can still run cards like Mother of Runes, Giver of Runes and Lightning Greaves to protect Karlov and Lurrus. And you put in a few reanimation spells like Animate Dead to get Lurrus back when it dies.
Josh really wanted to make the Master of Disguise joke and I am glad he did!
