In many ways, Adam is an old-school watch collector - buying what he loves and not caring what other people think. He's owned everything someone "should," and now, his collection is simply full of things he loves. And that's the best kind of watch collection.

I barely check out Hodinkee anymore, but when Ben does a Talking Watches, it reminds me of why I first liked the site. This is the best of Hodinkee. Even though I don't know Maroon 5, Adam Levine comes across well and seems likable and down to earth. Excellent interview!
Agreed. I only watched now and did read a bunch of negative comments (uh, the internet) but it was good.
Yeah Talking Watches is the only thing I like about Hodinkee anymore. I have not and will not visit their websites or buy their merch.
I agree talking watches with JC Biver & John Mayer is what got me into the CZcams watch community .

Adam mentioned John Mayer giving Maroon 5 a big break as an opener: As a freshman in high school, I saw them open for John at the RPI Fieldhouse in Troy, NY (a hockey rink, basically). I think it was 2001 or 2002. That performance made me a fan. I love how their cross-section of interests, like watch collecting, has evolved since then. They've gone from playing to a few hundred people on the same bill to owning Rainbow Daytonas and becoming music legends of our time. So incredibly cool.
I saw them at a college field house in Bozeman, MT.
Ben double checks that it's a real Porsche Speedster at 12:25, but never pauses to make sure the Rolexes are real. 🤣

Plz Guys, Nothing surprising here, Rolex daytonas, Gmt masters and a Patek, all watches we've seen a thousand times before on talking watches. Adam is the kind of guy who comes into a tattoo shop and asks for a tattoo. I have a feeling it's the same for his watch collection.

Perezscope has made some comments stating that the 6263 Daytona has been cobbled together. I wonder if Adam knew that when buying.
I was at an airport about 16 years ago and saw this guy carrying a guitar. I asked him what band he was with and he said "Maroon 5". It was Adam Levine. The way he carried himself, I could tell it wasn't a garage band, though at that time I had never heard of them.

Though I strongly disagree with Adam's: "Get a Rolex dude, it doesn't get better... like why would you go anywhere else?"... still a good episode.
I get it though in context of Ben's comment. I started with Rolex, and quite frankly after years of collecting and owning other stuff, I tend to reach for them first

Agree. If he personally prefers Rolex that's cool. But there's objective truth that they're THE brand.

His Newman is very dodgy. Bezel and pushers are fake according to perezcope. Dial lume is suspect. lets hope the case and movement are kosher.@@zachkramer1770
@@zachkramer1770 maybe not completely but parts are according to perezcope. Which means everything else could be fake too. Just affects the integrity of the watch as a whole even if only one part was in fact fake.
Glad to see Ben on talking watches. All of the important interviews should be him. Adam always comes across as a genuine, unpretentious guy.

He seems to treat watches more as an accessory instead of obsessing over signatures and dial variations. There is nothing wrong with the latter, but it’s a bit delusional to believe this way of thinking is the norm.

Awesome content. Love seeing celebrities be human. I'd always hear Mayer over the mic, on his 2002 live album Any Given Thursday, saying "Thank you for opening Maroon 5" but could never be sure since the crowd was screaming and I could never find any information online confirming this. Cool to hear it from Adams mouth. Keep up the hustle Hodinkee!

Interesting perspective, I actually enjoyed this video. Adam Levine is still learning and exploring his love for watches. I don't think he needs to be an expert. He is learning about them, and creating memories with them. Sometimes we have to take a step back and just remember that we all have to start somewhere. If he loves watches thats enough. Love to see a follow up video with him down the road.

Think it’s cool that not everyone has to be a mega knowledgeable watch collector to still show an interest in watches and have a conversation with Ben. Ben here adapts to Adam’s collection and level of knowledge to create good conversation and content. I knew Adam meant Date Just when he said it, (suspect Ben knew also) not an uncommon mistake, who cares. The Patek is amazing! Keep the content coming chaps!

Totally agree. Honestly at Adam’s wealth level it’s cool he’s taken somewhat of a technical interest at all and attached some meaning to certain pieces. He could just buy whatever and know nothing. People have different hobbies and knowledge isn’t a pre-requisite of owning nice pieces. With that said it’s a little annoying/prototypical for someone to JUST go for Rolexes when there are tons of other brands

I like Hodinkee and loved the interview with Adam - and Adam is free to collect whatever he wants and good on him. I just like seeing someone love what they collect.
But with all the noise I would like to see response from Hodinkee regarding some of the questions.
For some reason this made me think that I’d absolutely love to see Ben sit down with David Beckham and talk Tudors :)

Love the passion Adam has for his timepieces! Any friend of chronographs is a friend of mine! I also love how Ben is a master of moving the conversation along and bringing out Adam’s inner child! Ben just has that organic skill! It’s truly these episodes that validate the tears and joys of searching….getting….and even creating what we want for our own collection! Although we may agree or disagree with some of the pieces in Adam’s collection, there is no denying his passion is real and long standing. A genuine and satisfying Talking Watches episode.

I do love this series, but I can't help but feel every episode is, look at my rolex collection (or Patek). Would be great to see people with Breitling, Bremont, IWC, Cartier, Grand Seiko, Glashutte. There's so little diversity
He says it doesn't get better than rolex, just get a rolex then says the patek is on another level that would be the definition of better.

Rolex makes a fantastic watches and have an incredible history so of course you can be a Rolex guy and a watch guy, just look at Mike Wood for example. There are obviously many people that have Rolex and aren’t watch guys though, but don’t cross wires between the two.
