I absolutely love my Duke 390 (Identical to yours). TBH I can't justify the upgrade to a non-LAMS bike at the moment! Best bike for just smashing around suburbia and the city!

Glad you noticed and know nearly all the bikes are made/assembled in Thailand! Here (Thailand), the Duke 390 costs as much as a CB500f, but probably different over there.

Good luck with your Duke. When I had mine the right rear turn signal fell off after about 100 miles then the neutral sensor went out of whack. I traded it in for an FZ-07 after 6 months and couldn't be happier. The Indian build quality was just not up to par. The fit and finish between the two bikes is a night and day difference.

Hey man, great vids! If you still have the Duke 390, you should do a "long-term" review of it. It'd be very interesting to see if cheap bikes like this start to fall apart after a while, and what the service is going to cost.

  • @o0L4nc3r0o

I actually almost bought this one as well, in 2014...
I did a lot of research and comparing between the Duke 390 and the CB500F, but eventually ended up buying me the CB500F.
There was a special offer at the time, and I had a €600 reduction when I bought the Honda. :)
Also, I live very close to the highway. And 2 cylinders (and the bigger engine) is a bit more suitable for the highway than a Single Cylinder...

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
and even then I test rode an RC390 and holy shit it's a fun little goon machine. after riding a 1000cc bike for over a year everything feels slow, but it's a great learning bike that looks extremely sexy. way better than the Kawi or Honda.

Tom, GoPro released a new entry model camera. Its $199 and its basic no frills. No removable battery, built in waterproof case, would need to drill the case to get an external microphone to work. Definitely need to look into it as another review on a 'starter camera'

It's awesome to see you taking it offroad. I've been telling people the duke is like a sumo just with shorter suspension travel and ground clearance. It's 20 lbs lighter than my current bike and has about 10 more hp so I think it will be a great little bike. eventually will get one of the rsf exc bikes as a real sumo later on though.

I added this below in a sub comment, but I'll put it here at the head as well. The Duke 200/RC 200 and Duke 390/RC 390 will from 2017 be manufactured (assembled) in the Philippines from components made in the Philippines, Austria and India, and probably China, but that is a guess. Quality issues a production problems forced KTM which ironically is 47% owned by BAJAJ to pull the production for at least part of the line. All the larger bikes, (and other types) are being marketed here in the Philippines already all the way up to the 1290 series, all being manufactured in Austria as most of you know.

RWT.... great video, looks like that 390 is a mean little sucker, quick question. I noticed you had your mike cable going into the side of the go pro mounted on your helmet with the mini cable to 3.5 jack for connection to external mike...did you drill a hole into the casing or is it something you can buy?, I find a shit load of wind noise comes through just the go pro mike.
    Cheers in advance

Trying very hard not be offended by the "it reflects made in india" comment :( I'm from India and I've had the bike for about 2 years now and its way cheaper here lol. The stalling issue is maddening though, and it seems to happen after cold starts.

This is the 8th brand new bike I have bought and it is by far having the most amount of issues, I've owned bikes made in Japan, Thailand, Italy, Germany and Austria and this bike isn't on the same level as them.

+RidingWithTom Agreed, India has some catching up to do when you compare it to Japanese or German engineering, especially for motorcycles. Its a little silly for me to get offended. On the other hand, one of the reasons it's cheap is because its made here and its cut corners. Bajaj is known for cutting corners. These are all factors of its manufacturing and not necessarily India. My problem wasn't you saying its crummy quality, but that you directly associated it with India. What other Indian products have you owned?

I'm not talking about other products, I'm just talking about motorcycles, it's like if I was talking about cars and phones, I wouldn't want a car made in China but a phone made in China is fine (iPhones are made in China) honestly I can't think of one thing I own made in India except maybe clothes made in Bangladesh which isn't really India but close.
I work in IT in Australia which means I work heavily with India, we have offices in Chennai and more then half my team in Australia is Indian. I asked one of them just now if he would buy a Tata over a Toyota and he said shit no. I asked why and he said India don't make as good a car as Japan and I feel the same way about bikes.
This could change though, I mean Korean cars used to be JUNK but now they are getting extremely good and very comparable to a Japanese manufacturer.

+RidingWithTom indian manufacturers have a lot to catch up with europeans but there is absolutely no match with japanese, they are the best. ktm here in india with bad quality plastic is plausible cos they are selling cheaper in comparison to ninja 300 and R3 in and the irony here is the indian manufacturer 'bajaj' which manufactures ktm 200 and 390 cc bikes, manufactures its bike in better quality plastic and that too at very less price with ktms.
