I was there. It was a double-header: LA Galaxy and Tampa Bay, and the USA-Mexico game. Hotter than hot and the place was jammed! LOTS of beer. LOTS of flags (mostly for Mexico). Jorge Campos played one half for the Galaxy if I remember correctly-- he was their star but he was also the goalie for the Mexican national team and playing two full games was a little too much to ask. Great video-- thanks for putting this up!
You’re absolutely correct! I remember Jorge Campos (Mexico Goalie) and Cobi Jones (USA player) both were teammates on Galaxy team and then played against each other with the national teams. It was amazing!
@@Eman-xf2pn Actually now I think I was at another game, 4th of July. I see from this video that Campos played both halves of this June 16, 1996 game and in the double-header he only played a half. So I'm wrong about the date but the rest of it, that's still right. Bonus: if I remember correctly, Carlos Valderama played for Tampa Bay that day and was his usual fabulous self.

This match was a final between Mexico and the United States in a small tournament called the U.S.A. Cup. where 4 teams played, all against all, this was the last game that was played, if Mexico won or tied it was crowned champion, while the USA team needed to win because a tie was of no use to them, in the end both countries offered us a good game, I remember watching it a lot from home on TV and it was very entertaining, despite the rivalry between both countries, I greatly admired both teams from that decade of the 90's, watching Eric Wynalda, Jorge Campos, Alexis play Lalas, Manuel Sol, Cobi Jones, Luis García, etc. It was quite a show and I carry all these players in my heart because they were the best generations that I lived through as a child and part of my adolescence. Below I share the results of the tournament 🙂

Well played match from both sides. Hard fouls on both ends. Neither team gave up and fought till the end. Makes you appreciate this team and rivalry even more. Yes it got heated but never out of hand

I was at this game with my family I was six years old and I remember the animosity that the U.S and Mexican fans had. My first exposure to the Mexican national team and I loved every minute of it. Something that sticks out to me is I remember vividly people throwing cups full of piss and tossing it at the American fans 😅😅 and watching the fans get nailed by them and also watching the galaxy vs Tampa Bay mutiny with valderama Jorge campos Cienfuegos, Jones , harks and the rest of the Americans
