You’ve come a long way since you started doing this. Incredibly useful and fun. Thank you so much.
Thanks!
Excellent comparison. I liked how you switched between to see which one has higher handlebars
Congrats on the new ride! Great video as always!!
great job as ever, completely impressed by the website & confused why you don't have 10 times the subs.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your videos. Much appreciated.
I've had my eye on a Defy. I'm wondering where it would fit into this video, Great stuff Bikotic. I'll go and check it out on your website.
Merida Scultura End. GR looks 🔥 - didn’t know this existed (had the Silex and Scultura before, which were great at their price points). May look into this one when my Grizl starts falling apart…
The seat tube on the medium size has a steeper angle than the large size (which isn't always the case), so, yes, the large might have been the better choice. However, you can quite inexpensively swap the seat post for one with a larger offset if you ever feel the need to sit a little bit further back from the bottom bracket. A bigger issue would be the stack height but here you still have a couple of spacers left for extra margin. :)
I noticed it is actually very similar to their own Grizl except the Grizl has the old seatpost, old cockpit, more dropped chainstays and wider tire clearance while the Grail gets the onboard storage and D shaped seatpost. I think if they increased the wheel clearance on this to 45mm it could have made it the perfect do anything bike. I'm never really sold on D shaped seatposts either. I suppose they are more aero but the wind has to get past the giant human first before it hits the post. A round post would have allowed a dropper. Guess that would have canibalized sales from the Grizl which I would suppose in the next iteration goes all in on heavy gravel.
It can take 45m. 42mm is with fenders. For reference, the Scott Addict Gravel has 40mm clearance with fenders and 45mm without, which should have a minimum of 4mm(many brands have 6mm+) each side mud clearance for ISO compliance.
Can't wait for some new videos. I hope you are doing okay. Best regards from Slovenia!
Thanks mate! I will be back 😁
I bought the sl 7 SRAM etap and will install carbon wheels on it . Happy with the group set and not worried about the weight . It’s my nr 2 bike , i also have an ultimate cfr etap . Thank you for the nice comparisons ! 👌👍
Nice to see an interesting paintjob for 1ce
Waiting for another video drop!
Excellent and very interesting..thanks! I also had a on one inbred + Cotic and was very happy with it but unfortunately buying a bike from planet x or another bike from UK is much too expensive now for me living in germany and Canyon is not sooo far away from me. My Favourite is the Grizl because of price and flexibility with Cockpit but the geometry is very long compared to my old cx bike and there are also other interesting candidates like Crux or a CFR 696 with "old geometry" for an old man...Cheers..
Superb review. Could you do a size chart on the Canyon gravel bikes? Subscribed👍
This is almost a perfect bike for me as far as being more on the racey side of Gravel while having a UDH for mullets as well as thoughtful and bespoke storage solutions. A maximum of 45mm tires would have allowed me to use it for anything, but I can see why they did it. As it stands, there is no SRAM Red options for their "Wide" specification so you'd be forced to use a Force (😉) crank, so I'm hoping the future will bring that about when they release the refreshed Red lineup. While I'd like to have attachments for the fork, Canyon at least has an adaptor even if it winds up being a little clunky. I find my bikes easier to manage when I have threaded bottom brackets, but I think I could live with press fit if I needed to.
My main knocks on the bike and somewhat the industry in general is that fewer and fewer bikes are offered as a frameset anymore. The thought of upgrading just a frame with current components would make purchases much more possible than having to buy a complete build. Another annoyance is that you can't choose handlebar width which is a fairly universal problem yet I'd think and hope a company like Canyon would offer the ability to configure a bike without having to purchase a completely separate additional bar even if you know what you need beforehand.
Awesome tool. Can we get the option of adding new bikes that are private to the user? Would be awesome.
A steel gravel bike in my mind actually makes a lot of sense and yours looks really good actually. there some refurbished ones on canyons website but i worry i might regret having bought the previous model and it's still a lot of money to me... maybe with black friday coming up a sweet deal on a frame set will pop up somewhere and i could take it from there... but where would i hide it?
Anyways, i enjoy your vids
Was exactly looking for this video!! However I’m curious how the Inflite would stand out, since it is my current bike (1forall)
Love to see the Crux compared to Grail. Really appreciate video. I'm stuck btw Grail and Crux leaning towards Grail.
Thanks a lot for such detailed comparison. Worths having invented the internet to get pearls like this.
Thanks!
Compare with Basso Palta and Pinarello Gravil F please
any thoughts on the BMC Kaius?
Note the Grail 2 has a UDH setup, so it's future proof for SRAM Transmission. Looks like Canyon pulled the SLX in SRAM with Metal Grind only after a couple of days - bummer.
How about comparison vs TREK Checkpoint and Domane?
There is also a Silex 10k version being the top of the range
Ah, it wasn't in the UK website when I looked
What about BMC URS, it has similarly long wheel base
Hold on. An Ultimate in size medium has a shorter reach than a Grail in size small? Why are the Grails so long?
And another point to note: The Grail handlebars are very wide. Why? The bike should be the race gravel. Why so wide bars?
The Grail comes with a shorter cockpit/stem eating the frame‘s reach partially.
Have the grvl 520, better geometry than the 120, little bit twitchy but not terribly scary when descending
Just added the 520, it's 650b right?
@@bikotic oh sweet, indeed it is, looking forward to checking it out and making some comparisons!
The lack of internal storage and a little bracket mount missing on the bars on the SL just kills me. I mean if you're still dropping upwards of $3500 on a bike, can you really not just include a plastic door on the frame and a couple holes on the bars? I'm in the same boat where I'm interested in a Grail for a secondary bike, but I'm not dropping an extra $1500 for what seems otherwise like some really useful features. I'm not a podium contender and don't need the higher end wheels and group sets. This marketing trick makes a Lauf look that much more appealing. Really Canyon, you're just hurting your own accessory sales here.
Do other bikes in the $3500 range have that internal storage though? Not saying it’s smart by Canyon to leave that out, but really how many other bikes do have that? I know there are some, but i feel like that feature is normally in much higher end bikes like the Enve Fray/Mog. Arguably I think that feature is better suited for the Grizl since they market that as their bike packing bike.
To me it looks like canyon sizing is too big. Almost the same geo as my Venge. 😂
Horrible upsell, the SL->SLX, that internal storage missing on the same carbon frame with the same paint pattern. If you ever considered a German car, it's the same here. Just awful. Wonderful video though 👍
Mechanical groupset is the problem for internal storage I think.
i thought the grizl will be more grizzly than the grail !!!! Legend ! respectfully, in my opinion , the Rose Backroad ( Gravel ) offers better value than the Grail ! Last but not least, if funds are not a problemo, the Ridley Kanzo Fast !
as someone with the triban gravel....why you got to do me like that man 😥
Hey, Tribans have a good reputation for the money - it just has very different geo to the Grail. Do you enjoy riding it?
@@bikotic its a lot more normal than it looks in the image. I have the small size, so the headtube is shorter and the stem is reversed. Somehow the geometry is perfect for me. The roads in my city are terrible, so its much better than owning a road bike.
Rose Backroad
Me watching my “Old” Canyon CF SLX 9 that I just got being compared to the new one 😵💫🥴🤒
😬
Pinarello grevil f
I can’t take someone seriously who says their OCD is going to cause them to do A or B. A minute and forty five into the video and I’m out. ✌️
Obsessive bike disorder? What does that mean?
