Roland Fantom-0 06 07 08 Sequencer - How to start part way through a pattern

  • It seems simple enough - start playing halfway through a pattern to hear your edits without starting from the beginning, but it is a little confusing on the Roland Fantom-0 keyboards, particularly if you've come from Cubase...

    just got an 08. Soo much to learn, but this has been super helpful - just because I couldn't figure out where I was saving my sequences to when I saved them. Based on this vid, I clearly wasn't saving them properly, so as soon as I went to another scene, I lost my sequence and patterns!

      @@BigAntVideo I new to keyboards so I’m taking baby steps at a time, as you can probably tell. The first thing I need to work out is how to start a new scene, so I can start laying down sequences and patterns and be able to save my progress so I can come back and carry on working on it. Based on you vid, I think I I understand where I was going wrong, but need to get in from of my keyboard to check it out.

    Thanks a lot. Very useful. 😊 Now I will use this trick to edit mistakes within a measure, without having to play the whole thing from the start. I suppose I can "isolate" the measure and correct mistakes using real time recording as well? Also useful to use the draw function to change the velocity for a group of notes.

    Are these clips/phrases only accessible from within a song or are they accessible in a global directory as on the classic Roland grooveboxes? As for the samples: are they accessible via midi Bank Selects or is it necessary to load a project first? I would be interested in getting the Fantom as a keyboard/sampler addition for classic grooveboxes that lack a sampler (mc505 etc). Akai keeps updating its MPCs but for Roland I dont know how long they keep updating the software to iron out all the shortcomings. Thanks for uploading these great tips and tricks,

    I play piano fairly well. When I play I often imagine what I'm doing with my left hand being played by a bass player. I would like to arrange my piano pieces/songs for a band. So is it possible to make a recording in the sequencer in the Fantom, and afterwards mark/seperate and copy parts of it and paste it into another pattern and choose a bass sound. Using for instance the piano-roll or step write. I have not found a way to select several notes at once (for deleting or copying). I suppose I could play the whole thing with both hands, copy the whole pattern, and delete the upper notes in one of them (and choose the bass-sound), and delete the lower notes in the other. But this seems very unpractical.

    • @BigAntVideo

    Very helpful thanks for this, only had mine for about 3mnts and still earning. Q. when changing anything in piano roll can you do more than just 1 undo, is there a history.

    • @BigAntVideo
      @BigAntVideo  Před 9 měsíci

      Thanks for the positive comment. I don't know about multiple levels of undo - I've not seen an option for that. What I tend to do is as soon as something goes how I want, I save. Then I can always undo to the last Save point. Also - if you change musical direction significantly, Save to a new Scene, and then carry on working. You can then of course reload the old scene if it doesn't work.

    @BigAntVideo - Do you know of a tutorial or any way to be able to play a set of notes, record that set of played notes as midi, then use that pattern to drive something like the Step LFO or other feature (compression side-chain or EFX out) so it can be used as an Arepeggiator input that can be played back based on whatever root note you're playing?

    • @BigAntVideo

      Maybe buy an SH101 which has a transpose key which you can hold whilst hitting whatever note you want it to move to 😂

    Thanks for the help. Roland really need to update the software some. Its little things that could make big differences like this and some other nicks the Fantom lcould use tweeking in. Hey do you know how to set the piano roll to the S1 or S2 keys?

    • @BigAntVideo
      @BigAntVideo  Před rokem +1

      Yes - I really hope they add this functionality at some point too. I've not messed about with the S1/S2 keys, but I'm sure you know that if you hold down Shift whilst pressing either of them, you get the setup menu for that key, and then you can scroll through all the options and parameters you can assign to it? There are subcategories down the side, then scrollable options on the right.

      @@BigAntVideo Thanks I didn't see it the first time I looked but Ima go check again. If we could get these small things fix it would be perfect. I bet there is an option for play from stop point. Try shift and play at the same time. A lot of sequencers do full restart on play. I'm also surprised you can't select a start bar on the fly.

    Hi, great vid as I just needed to do the very same thing. Problem I have now is that I can edit from midway in the song but only on the selected voice. Im doing a drum pattern and it only plays the selected loop on the drum track. If I press play to hear the section, the other tracks start from the beginning $#$$???.

    My question is, and I hope you can help, is how to change the velocity of a clap in the grid that is with four other sounds per say in the same place? If a have a clap that is too loud and I want to change the velocity for just one clap in the pattern, how do I do that without changing all the other velocities that hit in that same place? I can't figure it out for the life of me. This should be something so simple, but it isn't?

    • @BigAntVideo

    What is the maximum length of a song in fantom 06? It is just 64 measures?

    • @BigAntVideo
      @BigAntVideo  Před 18 dny

      A pattern can be up to 64 bars (of whatever time signature you've selected). These patterns can then be put into up to 16 groups (and these groups can repeat). The groups can then be formed into up to 32 parts of a song.
