      @@hanschristiantankred4927 It really is, the keybed is surprisingly good. I like the matte surface. I wish it had the larger screen of the flagship Fantom, I find the smaller one hard to read at times. It's taking a while to get my head around, because I keep getting sidetracked with the sounds, and playing with it, but I guess that's a sign of a good instrument.

    If you are considering to buy any expansions for this synth, be aware! Roland will not allow you to transfer the expansion licenses to your buyer should you once decide to sell the Fantom. You will be stuck with expansions for several hundred bucks which you will not be able to use anymore. So the expansions cost you a lot but don't increase the resale value of the instrument. Just saying because I stepped into this trap with my Jupiter X. Really bad business practice Roland!

    I have the machine since two weeks. Yes it’s basically the same Sounds than 15 years before. Except the Supernatural. But anyway I was exactly searching for that.
    I used to have a Nord stage 2 and Nord Lead 4. This pair of Keybords are a dream for Jamming Gigs. But during time I settled down in one Band, and I wanted to add more Detail for the Bands Songs. Do to Lack of missing Layer and Split function on the Stage 2 I finally choose Fantom 0. The Lead 4 can be easily controlled with the Fantom, and now I am free to set up very big layers and splits.
    Yes, the Sound of the Stage 2 for Piano, Organ and EP are much superior, but for the rock band I’m at least search in a same priority for Strings, Brass and other Stuff where the Stage 2 lacks a lot. So it seams a good compromise for Rock band - especially because I’m in love with these 2000/2010ish Sound characteristics which was used a lot by Ushers/Destiny’s Child’s /… live Performances. There where literally 2-3 Roland FantomX/G on the Stage.
    But I would never bring Fantom 0 to an acoustic Gig or Studio Session, that’s why I will not trade my Stage 2.
    IMO the Fantom 0 is 100% for Live and controlling a set of Keyboards, only providing standard sounds itself. This Machine makes no sense in a studio because of the old Soundengines.

      The sound engine is new, not old, but the preset design is old, same presets from JV1080 and XV5080 from the '90s.
      Sound engine is closer to VSTs like Massive and Spire, actually, but a little less complex. EGs sound and feel more modern versus older Roland products, and that matters a lot for sound design.
      As always, we have to learn sound design ourselves and make the modern sounds we want on Roland keyboards because they chain themselves to 30-year-old presets.

    I have the 06. I just used it at the Long Beach Jazz Festival in my set and I love the sound. I used the tone organ for the drawbars and the leslie and the lead synths for my solo that I layered to make really phat. The 06 is light 15lbs and I love that. It's not really built strong so I suggest getting the hard case for it like I did but for what's under the hood and the ease of getting to each sound with the drum pads it knocks the NORD out of the question. On my page you can hear me use it with my band.

    • @jjrusy7438
      @jjrusy7438 Před 2 lety +4

      that is a really open ended question considering you never played a real piano. best idea is to go to a music store and play synth, semi-weighted, weighted and an actual piano. I have am 88 key weighted yamaha and a 73key synth action korg. it is easier to play piano on the 88 weighted keys for me, but faster on synth solos on the korg, so you have to decide for yourself what feels better. plus if you want aftertouch you would not want weighted which act like a piano with only velocity

    One thing I can't figure out from any videos or the manuals is if the SuperNatural pianos here have string/sympathetic/damper resonance. It doesn't appear to show up as an editable parameter like in every other SN piano. Or am I wrong about that? • @thortschman

      I own a 07 and can confirm it does not have these features. The Supernatural Pianos for that machine don't come close to the Pianos of my Nord Stage 2. Though, I don't feel the pianos, they sound real bland, the organ is okay-ish (don't know if it's the same engine from the VK or brand new, don't think it stands to the YC or Nord organs), and interestingly does not do audio over usb on vendor mode like it's big brother.

And I’ve got a few powerful apps with some good patches I use on my iPad but always need a separate audio interface to get the iPad tones out to Mixer. so I’ve got to pick a modx8 cos it supports audio over usb for iOS and not just PC and Mac. Tested with a friends MODX8 and all I needed was the usb cable. Was able mix my iPad tones with the MODX tones and all came out of the modx8. No need for another another interface just for the iPad. I’ve already got an FA-08 and would have added this but main feature I really need in 2022 is audio over usb for iOS. So MODX it is. I’ll skip this board

    Hey Andertons!
    Things that were missing of Roland FA series.
    1. Samples on the pads were not tempo synced.
    2. Supernatural synths didn't have oscillators sync
    3. LFOs couldn't be assigned to any controls so dubstep LFO ruling wasn't possible.
    Do Fantom-0 series have that functionality?

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 Před 2 lety +6

      1. No, and sample pads are exactly like FA keyboards
      2. Yes, in Zen-Core has sync
      3. This only held true to their SuperNatural Synth engine, which is rather bare bones unlike the PCM and Zen-Core engines with 4 oscillators and mod matrices, you can duplicate your favorite FA patches on Fantom-0, MC-707, and the regular Fantom and have much more mod options plus 4 oscs instead 3 for SNS patches, EGs can get you much closer to sounds you'd expect from Massive or Spire, and they threw in a VCF emulation option but it eats polyphony
      On FA, it is better to load EXP-11 and use its waveforms in the PCM engine for dubstep and EDM sounds, SNS is best for vintage sounds, PWM, and supersaws, and mainly leads and basses at that, the PCM engine is best for anything else but not bad at leads and basses in general at all, but unison is lacking in the PCM engine, which SNS can do easily.

    To me the only relevant workstation so far that I still use is my Roland fantom G6 I think the new a Fantoms have fallen off the cliff or should I say pushed off the cliff.... for example iconic feature that make a workstation a workstation is its ability to be stand alone aka without a computer, and if needed to be hooked up to a computer, then you should have been given integration with at least five current popular Daws (take your pick of what those Daws should be) .... And that sequencer should have the option to be linear such as in the G Series. The fact that you had 128 internal and /or midi tracks plus 24 linear audio tracks with their own separate mixer and effects capabilities is something other workstations including Roland's workstation after the G Series, illustrates what they have fallen way way off. For example I use the 16 track mixer in conjunction with the 128 and internal tracks like this. I would use sequencer track one for a kick, track two for another type of kick, and do the same with track 3...via creating a sample set. Remember on the G Series you could have an effects for each instrument/patch /sample independently known as PFX. So track 1 would have a low pass filter with some EQ. Track 2 would have the same thing as Track 1 but with different filter and EQ curves and this would be repeated for tracks 3. I would then route those internal instruments kicks to channel one of the mixer and then put a compressor on that mixer channel along with some EQ. Now that channel acts like a kick bus channel... Don't forget I have the master effects on the stereo output too that I can add too such as master EQ band compression, and others. This is just how easy but yet sophisticated, a simulation I can get to that of a real studio mixer desk. When it comes to sampling this is where they are most definitely falling really short. For example, there is no real-time time stretch and tempo locking of a sample to the bpm of a song or track to keep the pitch or key of the sample, like that on the on the G Series. Along with Auto-Chop capabilities of various types. And assigning each chop to a different key on the keyboard or/and to individuals sample pads in any order you want, to be triggered anyway you like, in conjunction with the sequencer with each sample locked to Tempo is awesomeness. And other sampling processing features. I mean come on... And don't forget about SKIPBACK SAMPLING. I mean I have my G6 skipback sampling on all the time 40 seconds maximum but it's enough for me to catch things that I've passed, played or what's routed through my audio input. The Skipback blue button light is constantly on. Even watching this CZcams, I can go back and playback what heard through the audio in 40 seconds ago. Roland getting rid of this feature was a cardinal sin, they shot themselves in the foot here, how could they take this feature away? And when it comes to the Arpeggio there's so many options. You can import, make your own or edit with ample upon amples of Presets with the ability to save to USB this is sick... And back to that Daw like linear sequencer, and its ability to add swing by adjusting by percentage how tight you want your quantization to be, from 0-100 %. As well as add, copy, duplicate, repeat, shorten or lengthening of tracks or parts of a track or time signature or parts.... 🤦‍♂️ How could Roland do away with so many great features. Back to the effects again another area where they're falling off, in the G Series you could root an edit effects with ample various parameters to me was just brilliant. And the sliders and knobs can be assigned to various parameters whether it be a a instruments envelope, or oscillator or effects etc of which can be automated. And that D Beam!! Look what Native Instruments did when they came out with Maschine mark 1, then Maschine studio, Maschine mark 3 and Maschine mark 3 plus. And the Akai with their MPC Touch and MPC X. They add features while improving previous features not takeaway features. I use my G Series in similar way to that of MPCX and Maschine plus because it is as capable as those Groovebox Sampler Workstations. Hence I state Roland shown a missed opportunity here, which is the young modern crowd who want to make contemporary music not just be stage performance musicians, who are just looking for synths and Piano sounds with the odd sequencing and sampling capabilities. This is why the G Series should have been improved upon with better Daw integration like what the new Fantom has now and then some. For people who make hip-hop, EDM, Drum & Bass, Trap, Drill, Grime and all manner of contemporary music including film score, with the ability to be hooked up to a sound library based cloud plus all the USB capabilities G-Series has the Fantom could have went somewhere, in fact took it so far the competition would have been left in the dust. Example Native Instruments Maschine and akai MPC now have sidechain compressor routing built-in. choose a compressor and route it to a sidechaining of a kick snare or drum loop in conjunction with a pad or synth sound, let that sink in for a minute. They marketing these workstations to the wrong people, and I am a mature man of 50 years but the people who it is overly priced and marketed too are not people who are making music in a contemporary way. Getting people or youtubers to just play the preset sounds /instruments/ various Synths, pianos, electric piano's etc playing riffs and obvious 808/909 sounds, and get excited is so bogus and a waste of time, they're just doing the obvious, like they do with every single synth stage piano workstation etc while deliberately, skipping over the limitations of the products. If Roland or anybody from The Development Team, just for a minute, just think about what I I'm saying, what I am suggesting, what I'm proposing, to put forward in the next Fantom, it would be a studio and Performance showstopper... That's why I've kept my G6. I did have the new Fantom 6, but it's now for sale. Because to me although it sonically sounds superbly great, it's nothing more than a sound module with cheaper feeling keys...All Roland, had to do is add to the G Series what the Fantom has which is the CV controls connections XLR in's and outs touchscreen etc etc...or rather add to the Fantom series all what the G-Series Fantom has. Akai is bringing out a MPC as powerful as the X but with a keyboard 🎹... Come on...

      The factory presets are '90s sounds repackaged for the millionth time. Korg, Roland, and Yamaha all do this every single time. Keyboardists demonstrating products tend to be into old music.
      But also every time, you have access to all the ingredients necessary for modern sounds on the workstations. Consider it a "power user feature" to edit oscillators and EGs and so forth. If you want modern sounds, you have to know how to dial them in yourself.

That said, if you find an arranger keyboard that you like, go for it. Arranger keyboards are, generically speaking, more "bands in a box." You will get some awesome backing tracks that can fill out your live performance. However, the material is "pre-made," but is designed to "flow" with your live performance. If you want to really create your own tracks from scratch, a workstation is the way to go in comparison to an arranger.

      Well I was trying to think of a short way of saying it but then it dawned on me rather obviously. It's a middle of the road sound, for a middle of the road board. At a time when people are listening to the big boys in the room and looking upward at those. So all in all a skimmed workstation, when workstations often do compromise here and there anyway - is going to be a difficult sell. More so if people are counting their post pandemic coins. Same story for the other brands, not much release over there at all.
      I don't think its necessarily horrible for the intended market and price tag; in line of the comparison videos that are also up on here vs other products like the MODX. But since it's new and commanding a higher price tag; with potentially a fair amount of clipping on the behavioral modelling and resonance compared to in other/older ranges; it does get docked a few points overall. Saving for a competitor may be a better bet. Depends on the users needs (today) though. As always.
