  • President Obama says he bears responsibility for the current state of the Democratic Party. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break down Obama’s legacy. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. www.tytnetwork.com/go
    “GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Mr. President, thank you for doing this. As we're walking towards your office I have to think you're going to miss this short commute.
    BARACK OBAMA: [laughs] I am, it's one of the biggest benefits of being president that you really don't think about until you get here. I have never had to travel more than thirty seconds from home to office, and it's because of that that I've been able to maintain, you know, really a family life that has nurtured and sustained me during this time.
    STEPHANOPOULOS: How long did it take for the White House to feel like home though?
    OBAMA: You know, it, it took shorter, I think, for us, just because when you've got little kids, and you're tucking them in -
    STEPHANOPOULOS: It's home.
    OBAMA: It's home, right? When you open a door and they're in their pajamas and they're, you know, wrestling with you and asking you, you know, to read to them and stuff, you know it starts feeling like home pretty quick. Not to mention having a mother-in-law upstairs, and the dog, and now two. It feels even more like home now because you have all these memories that were formed watching your kids grow up.”

    The problem is Obama ran on change but brought no change.
    He said: "I'm not going to play the game a little better, I'm going to change the way the game is played". But he didn't. And so the frustration that people felt last time around was at an even higher boiling point this time around. The only way the Dems could have won his election is if they ran Bernie Sanders.

    • @jamviator
      @jamviator Před 7 lety +1

      In the end he is largely to blame because he didn't push for the change that people elected him to make. Most things remained the same. The banks got bigger, tax cuts for the wealthy remained. Only thing happened is the economy scarcely avoided a complete collapse. But no actual change took place and he didnt push for it.

    • @allanhouston22
      @allanhouston22 Před 7 lety +4

      Atmost11 Positives: He got US out of the economical crisis (you can still argue that US is in crisis but then take a look at the rest of the West, still struggling. Maybe its a trend), Cuba deal, Obamacare (a watered down version), pardoned the biggest number of small time criminals (helps economy), land conservation (most than any president), criticized Israel's expansion (for an US politician this is generally a big 'No No'), got the army out of Iraq (well well), no boots in many troublesome regions. All this while having Congress against his policies, constantly. Probably he was so much obstructed just because of his skin tone, I am actually starting to believe that. Maybe it was done so that the republicans can brag throughout the history that a black Hussein got to be a president for two turns but couldn't make anything out of it. The guy inherited probably the WORST of the worst turns in the history of the US (two wars, the second worst economical crisis in the history of the world, a concentration camp in Cuba and absolutely corrupt Washington).
      Negatives: TPP push, too many drone bombings

    Not saying enough about the importance of money at the lower levels. Not even big money. State-level and lower politicians are cheap to bribe, and the elections can be adjusted with relatively small amounts of money for ads.
    The redistricting and other games are important. One interesting wrinkle of wasting opposition votes is that concentrating the Democratic votes in sacrificial districts not only wastes the excess votes, but it also concentrates the ground-game enthusiasm exactly where it isn't needed.

    How about the person who ran against Trump take responsibility rather than spreading the blame far & wide.

    For all he has done (equality for the LGBT community, healthcare for those who couldn't afford it, took down bin Ladin, saved us from another depression, ect. Even all while facing roadblock after roadblock.) you are criticizing him for not keeping the dems together?

    He seemed to admit it was his fault and then absolve himself from blame at the same time by claiming he was "too busy". If you really think that the Democratic party needs to be rebuilt, then why are you supporting Tom Perez? Why did you pick DWS in the first place? Why weren`t you backing Bernie Sanders? Obama is all talk, as usual. He`s not taking even the most minor steps to support rebuilding the Democratic Party.
