    I love my 52" Ariens Apex. My outdoor building does not have a big enough opening for the 60" or I would have gotten that one. I love the solid build, the deck does not bounce when mowing, speed, quality of the cut, seat with arm rests, place to put my phone, miscellaneous items and a very nice drink holder. I could go on but the only thing I ran into was my back yard has a very steep hill. No way for any mower hands down to mow that drop off. I do now close to it but did not realize that a zero turn the weight is all in the rear and when the grass is a little moist, the zero turn back end will start sliding down the hill. I finally figured out that if I went turtle speed, it was much safer, however I decided to change to slightly more aggressive tires that grabbed to make it safer mowing by that slope / drop off. The draw back is, everywhere I mow now, I cannot make a zero turn because the tires will dig into the sod and tear up the yard. I think I will put the original tires back on and not now so far down that slope. That way I can mow the way it's designed to mow. Glad I watched this video because tomorrow the tires go back on. I think the rear tires on this Apex are a bit wider than mine. Going to check that out as well. My aggressive tires are much wider than the originals. I will be looking at wider turf tires if I can find them. Great video! Ariens Apex are Rock Solid !!

    Thank you so much for so easy to understand video. I am currently on the market for my first riding lawnmower. Just bought 3 acres. I been learning that a zero turn is the way to go. I was settling on a Ikon XD but now I am really excited on this mower. Just subscribed and looking forward to educate myself with your content.

    This mower is great! I’ve used it for my commercial lawncare business for 2 years. The breaking is kind of sketchy, but everything else is good. I’ve been on many commercial mowers, and I’d put this one up against them! For the money, it’s the Best Buy

    The Kawasaki engine actually has ball bearing main bearings in the crank shaft and overhead valves! The stater is also a high output charging system for better battery charging and a hotter spark which means better performance. Always use premium fuel and FULL Synthetic oil!

One bit of advice that EVERYONE does on there video's. People record themselves cutting grass in fast forward. It doesn't give a realistic representation of how the mower moves at high speeds. • @gravelydon7072
      @gravelydon7072 Před 3 lety

      There are differences in the two but yes, they are both made by Ariens. As for price, depends on the dealer but most Gravely dealers will sell you one for the same price as an Ariens. And I'd put my 2021 Gravely ZT HD 60 up against his Ariens. For one thing, it doesn't match what Ariens put in the 2021 Gravely catalog/brochure. Kawi says the 730s were 23.5 HP but this CARB certified engine is rated at 24 HP per Kawi's sticker. They say that there is a seat isolator kit, but not for mine as it already came with it. You will notice the light kit is different than the 2019-2020 ones as the plastic molded parts around the controls and fuel filler are different. And instead of the lights being vertical, they mount horizontally. And are adjustable as to how far out front you aim them. To improve the ride more, you can add the suspension forks like found on the Pro-Turn Z/ZX. It still won't ride nearly as well as my 2007 Gravely Rapid XZ which has the suspension seat and either the plow, snowblower, 52" deck or 60" deck on it. Nor can it move as fast as the Rapid XZ can move at 13MPH. But then that setup weighs in at close to 1 ton vs the 870lbs for the ZT HD.

  • @wesleygreen2601
    @wesleygreen2601 Před 4 lety +6

    I have the Apex 52" it has 6 anti scalp wheels, same front 4 you see on the 60" in vid, plus 2 in the back of the deck. Unlike the ikon, the Apex transmissions have spin on filters and a much more robust deck height selector, plus bigger tires, not really in the same league with the little extras that make a big difference in that $2k price difference. I mow 4 acres full speed @ the lowest setting on my yards in 2.5 hours. Wish i would have sprung for the 60" to get under the fences and closer to the trees trunks that have thorns on the overhanging branches but it works excellent. One con to the Apex models are the baggers' cost. They are belt drive powered baggers, $1299 for the bagger system plus another $180 for the mounting kit. Insane. Get an X blade kit for $30-40 and the $180 mulching kit and call it good. I've mowed down 3.5 foot tall weeds and saplings with the deck raised all the way and come back for a second pass at 1.5" This is a mowing beast that was very well designed for that task that still continually surprises me. Kawasaki commercial engine all the way! I'll never Kohler again after the issues I've had with them

    • @g4outdoors
      @g4outdoors  Před 4 lety +4

      You can't go wrong with the Gravely / Ariens zero turns! I have a toro Timecutter and the moment and I kinda miss my Apex, but I love my Toro too. The 60" deck on my Apex really got work done in a short amount of time. It's surprising the difference 6"' makes,,,,,,

    • @wesleygreen2601
      @wesleygreen2601 Před 2 lety +1

      Amazon or ebay has the mounts for going x blades. It's just a flat piece of steel with the 4 edges bent up or down to hold the blades 90⁰ from each other vs just trying to bolt 2 blades on using just the spindle bolt to keep them @ 90. Overpriced for what it is, but holds them in place

  • @royalway12
    @royalway12 Před 4 lety +5

    I actually hit a tree stump that was hidden under tall grass with that mower. The deck is so solid, it shifted the whole mower slightly side ways a few inches. No bent deck hangers, no bent deck, nothing. Just a little scrape on the orange paint from the stump. The Apex is built like a tank. I've also heard the Apex doesn't have the vibration issues of it's smaller siblings. Haven't been on them, but this mower didn't vibrate for me.

    Nice mower Randy ! Go down to Lowes and pick up a heavy rubber floor mat , cut it to fit the perforated upper deck , you will like it. You may not mow enough to notice the difference but if you are on the mower all day it makes it easier on your feet. I had a floor mat come with my John Deere Z445 and can't do with out one now. It really helps on my stander but you'd be surprised how much better it is on a zero turn too. My Deere and the Apex are equivalent mowers. Mine has the 10 gauge deck too but mine is 14 yrs old . Congrats on your new mower !

      @g4outdoors  Před 4 lety

      The dealer would definitely know more about than me, but that is what I was thinking on model vs model. The Kawi is a bit louder and a little more thirsty for fuel. I’ve personally never ran engine long enough to kill it, so I’m not going to bash either one.

    • @g4outdoors
      @g4outdoors  Před 3 lety +2

      The anti scalp wheels keep the deck from getting too close to the ground and keeping the blades from hitting dirt. While your mower is on concrete, lower the deck to the ground while still having pressure on your height adjustment lever. However high that is will be your minimum cut height on a flat surface. If your deck touches and rests on the ground at 2 inches, then you will be set to cut down to 2 inches. If your deck rests at 3 inches, then you won’t be able to cut any lower and you will need to raise the anti scalp wheels for your application. Hope that clears things up Roger.

      I can lower the bar for you and make it a little easier to decide! Every mower in its own class or price range share the exact same hydrogear. They don’t rebrand them or anything, Hydrogear keeps their brand sticker on them. Take a look under the back of each mower and you will see the size with hydrogear brand. Every mower shares the same engine manufacturer, Koehler, Kawi, Honda, or a Chinese rebrand. There are only like 3? Tire manufacturers. There are only a handful of spindle manufacturers. So, they all have the same bucket of parts to pull from to make a mower. The real decision will come down to quality of build, and how each company decides to utilize their bucket of parts. I like to have the most HP for the deck size, even if that means going from a 56” cut with a 25HP down to a 54” cut with the same 25HP. I like to get the biggest hydrogear I can afford. The bigger the number on the model, the faster and more torque you’re going to get. There are mowers in the same price range that will put a bigger hydrogear in and not advertise it. Look for a welded or manufactured deck, stamped decks are fine, but you are going to get better longevity out of a thicker manufactured deck. Look at the quality and “beefyness” of the frame. You don’t want a frame that is going to be doing a ton of flexing. You will wear the mower and all aligned parts up in a hurry; I.E. belt to motor alignment, deck belt alignment, stress fractures on welds and other stress points. How easy is the mower to clean off after a mow. How easy is an oil change. I really should have mentioned comfort third in this discussion. A bad seat can ruin a mowing session in your first day of ownership. I know that Ariens/ Gravely are great mowers that will last you a lifetime, as long as the bucket of chosen parts holds up. BadBoy mowers has extremely overbuilt machines! A lot of people talk trash on them, but YOU look at one and tell me that aren’t tanks. Toro makes a very refined machine and are driven towards cut quality. I bought a Cub Ultima and sold it within a couple of months because of quality control, others say that it’s the best mower they have ever had. BEST is going to depend on what and how you intend to use the mower. Here is what I would recommend doing! Choose your deck size. Choose your HP. Choose your ground speed. Choose your comfort on the mower. Then decide which of those have a better build. I guarantee if you decide in that order, you will have the “best” mower. I should have just made a damn video as much typing and thinking as I just did 🤣. Thanks for the comment Midge!

There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
