  • There is an expression in Japanese that, " A wise man climbs Mt. Fuji once, only a fool climbs it twice." Climbing Mt. Fuji can be physically demanding, and depending on the season and weather, it can be dangerous. Mt. Fuji has an altitude of 3,776 meters and is Japan's most iconic symbol and the highest mountain in Japan.
A sacred mountain honored and revered by pilgrims and artists since ancient times. Mt. Fuji, a World Heritage (Cultural Heritage) site since June 22, 2013, is popular with locals and travelers to Japan. There are four trails to the summit. The Yoshida trail starts from the Yamanashi Prefecture side. The Fujinomiya, Subashiri, and Gotemba trails from the Shizuoka Prefecture side. I took the Yoshida Trail, which has the best access from Tokyo, and the summit ends at the ideal place to see the sunrise.

Your video is a great summary of your climb and gives viewers a good idea of what to expect. I climbed Fuji in 2016. Thanks for your video.

@JapanExperiences Thanks for the very informative video! What time would you recommend I depart Shinjuku and start my hike if I wanted to head straight to the top for sunrise without staying in a hut?

Leave by 6pm latest I figure. Good luck!

@@JapanExperiences Thanks for your response! Looks like the latest bus available is 3.45pm (I think they are doing this to discourage bullet climbing), so I will just catch that bus and take some time to acclimatise at 5th station :)

I’m climbing Mt Fuji Aug 2023. Can you tell me if you had to reserve in advance the Shinjuku bus ? Thank you. Great video

Are you glad you stayed in the hut or do you wish you just rested outside on the benches?

The hut was not necessary. I could have started later and not have stopped (or just rested on the benches) until the top. But I definitely wanted to be at the top on time to see the sunrise.

may I ask like do I need a permit or like an entrance ticket to hike up to Mt Fuji summit via the Yoshida trail? :)

No ticket required but they do ask for a donation which goes to upkeep of the trails.
