Just removed my sound tube today. Found that using the 1/4 inch 10mm deep well socket works best. Bought a 10mm set from advanced auto. Start with the longest deep well socket that works for a while then gets tight as the devil as your socket runs out of space so then used the next shorter socket then the shortest socket.
Great install video. Couple of notes if your mustang is right hand drive I recommend pulling battery box out and bottom shroud to access the noise resonator 10mm bolt. Bit of extra work but if you want to refit oem intake best to not destroy this pipe work.
This video was very helpful, thank you!! I installed one on a friend’s car yesterday and it was successful due to this video!!
Just remember, when you wash the car, put a garbage bag over the air filter. Its not much of a problem when you drive in the rain, but the filter will get soaked when you wash it
MrMrwilson11 it does not
I do it all the time
1/4 inch deep well socket, extensions. That’s the secret to getting to that damn bolt. It was a PAIN to get to.
How did you get to it? When I try there’s not enough space and I can’t get the deep socket on all the way
Thanks Bill, you helped me make the instal so easy. The intake looks amazing and this video guides you through it perfectly. CJ Pony Parts and Bill Rock.
I did mine today. It took me 4 1/2 hours. 3 1/2 hours alone was to get that nut off of the backfire wall. What a pain in the ass that is.
Does going from an 85mm tube to a 105mm tube really make a difference since the stock throttle body will not be changed? Won't the change be negligible?
well, I think it's just aesthetics. I think the air filter out the box won't increase much horsepower because it'll absorb hotter air than it inside the closed box. The air under the hood is hotter than the air inside the closed box. well, that's what I think of.
On my one they drilled the wrong hole size too big around the edge of the bucket so now the rubber gasket doesn't snap into place 🤦♂️ thanks Roush
Where can I find the plug for when I remove the noise tube
The Brace comes with the PP package
The intake plastic box does not have Roush logo anymore! Weird
Do we have to be worried about it when it rains?
Won't it suck water right into the engine?
+Beto Noriega Not really, the angle of the hood vents will not allow water to pour right in when you are moving.
+Bill Tumas um what about when you're not moving? Still waiting for the answer to my iat question.
+chevyhs The amount of water that could come through the heat extractors under normal use will not hurt anything. The IATs will not noticeably change with this kit, the gains are due to increased flow.
Thx for showing the step by step bill I had my I pad goin and you where right there helping me
If I wasn’t so tired , I would’ve installed my Rouch axle back
Thank you again
Instead of removing the whole sound tube, why not take just part of it and seal on the top? It won't be as clean, but damn that firewall is hard to get to.
+Eric Cavalcanti You could but IMHO that would look unfinished and cluttered. and yes the firewall part does kinda suck
+Bill Tumas Yeah, it looks much better without it.
I found some small hands to help out. :D
You can do that. K&N makes a plug for the tube itself
Hey bill will this fit on a 90 mm Throttle body?
does water get inside the air intake with the open hood vent
So what size is the fire wall plug? And where do you get one?
Got to know but is there a decrease in the intake air temps with this kit? No point of installing if air is hotter than before
chevyhs i don't know what the temps were before, but at about 40mph I'm getting ambient air temperature. And you can't get colder than the outside air.
Where or how would I go about acquiring the 105 mm tune for my stang?
Buy a tuner and get a tune by either lund, bama, alothman, or another tuner - I'm going Lund for my FBO set up
Anyone watching in 2020: I got the sound tube nut off by breaking it loose with a 10mm wrench then putting a deep socket on it and loosening it by hand
I only have one factory tube
Ok, so if I'm understanding correctly. The Roush CAI will NOT fit a 2017 Mustang GT. Too bad! Good thing I read this thread I was getting ready to order from CJ.
Clunker 59 I just installed one on my mom's 17
I have a roush CAI on my 2017 GT. The sound symposer was deleted though.
good question. will computer adjust
Am showed a loss of power with the insert tube, is that true?
currently undecided between K&N or Airaid intake for my 2017 GT. what shall i go for!? and why?
roush. #1 reason, Roush parts do not void/impact your manufacture warranty. most of these seem to be within $20 of each other. They are all going to add about the same power with/without a tune. They are very good quality and fit as they should. I've seen a number of aftermarket CAIs that even thought are "made for your car" don't really fit perfect. Never had that issue with a single roush item.
It is faster in the 0-60?? And 1/4 mile?
Good video. I followed along to install the Roush cold air intake. Smooth process except that 10mm bolt on the firewall. Wow! What a female dog she was.
Only questions I have is the calibration for going with the 105mm intake. Where can that be done? Who has it? And can I but one?
Have you enjoyed your Roush CAI? About to install mine today
Simple remove and install. Just know that 10mm nut is a burger! I also put on a resinator delete X pipe. She can breathe better! 👍👍👍
Twitter @firemedic_mike
Yeah I'm using a plug made by K&N for the sound tube. I'm leaving that bolt. Thanks for the reply
+wardeagle1015 I've also got an X pipe, a Corsa double helix X pipe to be specific, the Xtreme catback, which I'm hoping paired with the intake will sound good
Did you ever find out where that 105 mm tune can be done? Or where to buy ?
But part what you get out from firewall and airintake is ok ? Why is in car and what is do ? Thank you becouse i cant instal oil separator for driver side when i take off this part.
That's the "sound tube". It pipes noise to the cabin. You can remove it without issue but you should buy the plug for the hole in the firewall so you don't get fumes piped into the cabin.
Just installed a Roush Intake on my 14 GT, Check it out!
nice looks good!
I have a custom tune for 110mm intake while my roush is 105mm would it cause any problems for that little difference?
Yes something even that small can throw a tune off.
Thats what im saying but they said i purchased the wrong intake
Do they get any heating issues while not moving with this intake, like the pmas does ?
It is sealed to the hood so there are no heat soak issues.
What benefits will I have with I have a roush axle back exaust and sr performance x pipe
It will be quite loud. We have videos of our X and H pipe options with the Roush axle back.
Dont think u gain any HP from axlebacks. Pretty sure u gotta get headers paired with a catback exhaust to see some gains.
Can you use a cleaning kit on these air filters? or do you just replace them?
Clean em with a hose..no need to oil
Mine makes some popping noise any ideas why this might happen?
Bama believes to be normal because the car needs time to get adjusted to the tune(50miles) my mustang has the same issue but have not received any codes
At minute 2.03 you reference a brace. Do all gt's come with this? I noticed mine is missing. Is this a part that comes on all GT's, or is it a track pack option?
The performance packs come with the strut brace.
Thanks for the reply. I've seen so many S550 engine bays I assumed mine had it, and thought the dealer left mine off. I guess I owe them an apology.
Or if you get a CA Special
How much hp gains
Dont need ANY tools to remove the sound tube from the firewall. You literally need to pull the shit out of it and it comes right out...no tools required
no need for sct ?
and if i use it without sct it ok ?
+ahmed albalushi Correct a tune is not needed
MPG?
that MAF connection doesn't look too good..... wouldn't be surprised if after a couplet thousand miles after the motor as slowing worked back and forth on it from moving, the wires or connecter gives out.... haha not a good design... figure for $400 bucks they'd at least send a connecter extension or something...
+Gatorsrok It was a little tight but the meter won't really move much, the flex pipe is on the other side of it so movement would be minimal. There is more slack if needed by removing a 4th clip as well.
any dyno runs to back those numbers?
+Jafet Pretel We are only showing you the process of installing the part and quoting the manufacturers gains.
what a nub
The real question is, do you sell the filter itself? I have got roush air intake for my 2015-2017 and my intake turned from red to black. It’s dirty. I’m trying to find where can I buy a new filter..
The filter is washable and does not need to be oiled.
Does it void the factory warranty?
I was told by the salesman to just put the factory air box box in before bringing it for service.
+sami Herz No the roush intake do not void the factory warranty with the 85mm if you use the 105mm which need a tune it can void the warranty
+sami Herz its an air filter. it wont void your warranty lol
Its illegal for the manufacturer to void warranties for after marked part. They must prove your after market part directly caused the malfunction for you car to be not covered under warranty.
Will that fit on a 1999 ford explore
Sorry i have a 2017 and i order the same intake and it does not fits
If you have a 2017 GT then it does fit! You might be doing something wrong, because nothing changed under the hood between 2015 - 2017
Nope. Late year 2017's removed one of the factory tubes, so now I have to find something to plug that??? Guess they can't say it fits "ALL" 2015-2017. :(
What factory tube are you talking about? The only factory tube that should need to be plugged is from the removal of the sound symposer. Did you purchase the right intake for the GT or was it the intake that fits the ecoboost/V6?
It will fit your 2017. There is no line to the charge motion plates on the 2017 so you have to plug that fitting on the intake. Besides that it is the same intake. When we made this video we were not aware of the 2017 change but it is noted on our website for all 15-17 GT intakes.
Thanks. Not your fault, Bill. You guys make great videos. Thanks! Disappointed Roush doesn't indicate it in addendum on the installation instructions (and include something to block it with). I found a rubber grommet to put in the removed valve insert after a trip to the hardware store with duct tape over the missing area. Grin. Figured duct tape on a new part just takes the jinx out of it anyway. :)
Is Roush intake C.A.R.B. Legal?
No horse power gain in reality, :(
Do you know if Roush/Ford will still honor a factory warranty with this mod just like they do with the sc?
they told me that I could only replace the filter itself for a k&n and that if you touch that mass air sensor it voids it even though you don't tune it. Ask your dealer to make sure and have it in writing.
+Dagomxrider The dealer would have to legally prove the aftermarket part caused the failure to void your warranty. This kit comes from the factory on the Roush Mustangs which have a full warranty from Ford.
Roush parts do not void or impact your Ford warranty
@@Zerogivengarage Roush parts never void your ford warranty.
Bill, is this legal in Calif?
+Kevin Gomez No it does not have a CARB number
$400 and doesn’t come with its own grommets
non of them do
How much did they pay you to play a teleprompter LIE?
I added insulation and foam to PLUG THE INDUCTION OF HOT UNDER-HOOD AIR.
the MASSIVELY OVERPRICED CARBON FIBER GT500 INTAKE, is a ugly to fix a problem and lower the IAT1 (before the Throttle body) and inquired about the design of the "gen II heat shield" and they as normal tried to $haft me, again. I am building my own and have built many for trucks and cars for pennies on the dollar and they work GREAT!!!
