Pride celebrations kick off in West Hollywood

- The 2023 WeHo Pride weekend celebrations return from June 2-4. The three-day event is a celebration of unity, inclusion, diversity and expression within the LGBTQ+ community.
The Icons for this year’s WeHo Pride Parade will be RuPaul’s Drag Race, Laith Ashley, Niecy Nash-Betts & Jessica Betts, and Melissa McCarthy. WeHo Pride will honor these trailblazers and allies as this year’s Icons for their work in bringing the LGBTQ community and social justice issues to the forefront, as well as expanding queer representation in mainstream pop culture.

What really confuses me about Pride is the assumption that other people’s sexuality should concern us.
I don’t have problems with anyone in the LGBTQ community just like I have no problems with people who are straight. I neither approve nor disapprove. Bottom line is, I don’t really have an interest in what people do in their bedrooms, I don’t think about it and I prefer not to.
I don’t think sexuality defines an entire individual, sexuality is a part of who we are - but it’s just that - a part.
I’m interested in people’s character, dreams, talents and perspectives on life. What are they doing for work or what are their passions? Sure, sexuality may play into these things but it’s not typically front and center of our entire identity or personality.
Since when is sexuality the most important part of us? I certainly never agreed to that! Nobody asked me if I WANTED to know about their private sexual lives.
I DO have a problem with the idea that people’s sexual preferences should concern me and other people and it seems we don’t actually have a choice, Pride is pushed in our faces from every direction!
The Pride movement operates on the premise that people’s sexuality is a public matter even though many Americans prefer sexuality stay a private matter!
The reason many people show resistance to Pride isn’t because of sexuality or gender identity - but because of the complete disregard for other people’s views on sexual matters! There’s an issue with the basic premise that your sexuality should concern me.
Go ahead and celebrate your sexuality, gender identity and lifestyle - but don’t expect or demand that everyone should cheer you on considering many people believe sexuality should stay in the private sphere. Flaunting and oversharing cheapens something that many Americans view as intimate and sacred.

what about in parts of the world where you cant marry. are they not allowed to march in solidarity? or should we lambast them?
If your relationships are only about sex, that's your business. But you can't make the assumption that everyone else is that way.
