Shot in the dark. Do the drives trip out on overcurrent when the performers are bouncing up and down? It might be the load peaks if the mechanism is bouncing.
It didn’t get as far as them jumping and bouncing before tripping out, it was the first time the performers were on the platform, so they were just getting used to the movement. We took one of the old motors apart, and it was burnt out inside, the insulation around the windings had melted, which was the cause of the overcurrent fault. We don’t know for sure what caused it, but we think it might have been a combination of too low speed, unbalanced platforms, and the motors weren’t protected because the max motor rated current setting on the drive was set too high as last year the drives were running several motors. We’ve now replaced the motors, set the speed to 50Hz with no ramp up, made sure everything is as balanced as it can be, and it all seems to be good. The motors don’t draw much more than about 3 amps per phase.

Makes a big difference with the motors running... Should be good to see it all working on the 17th. I'm shocked at how many smoke machines there are though! o.O Do they go off randomly or are they activated somehow?
Yep, 24 cannons with 24 smoke machines. I might talk about how the cannons were designed and made in a video... we’re going to put 5 more on for Weston (smoke machines, not cannons)!
