  • Digital Key to Touch is a BRAND NEW feature for select Kia and Hyundai vehicles.
    Essentially it lets you access your vehicle just by using your smart phone!
    In today’s tutorial, Patrick and Gabi demonstrate how to set it up and use digital key to touch with an iPhone. We’re still figuring out this feature and more videos will definitely be on the way!

    I am a developer working on a digital key project for some large customers. This project is huge from future point of view. But, I believe at some point of time when it is rolled out in a lot of vehicles, there will be some changes required from the user perspective. Like this fiddling into the charging pad can be irritating for the users. So, instead of using card readers, manufacturers will have to provide bluetooth support more. Otherwise, it is in initial stage only. Looking forward to see our work impact the industry.

    I give Kia points for adding this feature at this price point. However the implementation still seems very much like a first gen product. Looking forward to seeing the 2nd and 3rd generation of this feature. Would like to get the point when we can leave our keys at home, walk up to our car, unlock and start the car with phone in pocket. And connect wirelessly to Andriod Auto/Apple CarPlay while we are at it.

    • @BrantfordKia
      @BrantfordKia  Před rokem +5

      If a valet has your key, they couldn't create a digital key without access to the Kia Connect account (because you need a code for setup). If you don't have the fob, you can't create a key either because you need to power up the vehicle. So code + fob + phone is the only way you can setup a key. Once you have a digital key setup, you can send a digital key to a friend through you phone. You can also revoke it at anytime.

    • @AshishRajput-fh4bh
      @AshishRajput-fh4bh Před rokem

      No. Thats not like it. The setup process can be done for you when you are purchasing the vehicle. Physical keys have no relevance. Even if you have them, doesnt matter. Anyways, vehicle OEMs would at some time stop giving physical keys and give digital keys only.

    I do not understand how this is easier than just having the keyfob. Because with the keyfob you just pull the door handle and that is it, with this you have to take the phone out of your pocket and hold it to the handle and then pull the handle to open the door. And with the keyfob you do not have to place the fob in any special place. You just press the brake and the push button. this just seem like a step backwards for me. Now if you could leave your phone in your pocket the entire time then I could see me using this

    • @Anjoel
      @Anjoel Před rokem

      It's more convenient than having a keyfob only in the fact that you don't need to actually carry the keyfob with you anymore. Other than that, it's everything about the keyfob is better.
      However, what was demonstrated in this video is typically the first generation Digital Key. There's actually a second generation of Digital Key where it relies on the UWB (ultra wideband) antennas on the phone which allows you to just keep the phone in your pocket and you can unlock your doors and start your cars without touching your phone. Your phone basically becomes identical to a keyfob in that regard, and they would function the same.
      2nd Generation is definitely miles better than Gen 1, it's just not widely adopted yet since most manufacturers adding the Digital Key feature are just now heading into Gen 1.

If I have to unlock my phone to do any of it its a no go for me....I was looking into digital key because the 23 key fob is a little too big imo so not haviong to carry it with me would be nice if my phone could serve the same purpose.

      Apples already announced cars with uwb chips will be able to leave the phone in your pocket or bag; just like a traditional key

    With so many good things that Kia/Hyundai are adding at a more affordable price range makes me think that one of these is true
    1. These luxury features are expensive and that they are putting their company on the line giving these features to compete with the likes of bigger brands, at a loss, but hoping to capture the hole left by skyhigh prices of other brands
    2. The aim of the company is to "catch" the customer in an another way in order to make up for it
    3. These luxury features are actually inexpensive and these guys are exploiting the price trick that other brands are doing for these features
    I tend to go with the 3rd one. Because for example, why does the Elantra Luxury have all the features of a Toyota Camry XLE at a much lower price (and still be competitive) ?

    Well it does not work, off course. Doesn’t matter how many times you follow the steps

    Two comments:
    1. Tesla did it way better and without even having Apple software. On my Model Y I’d never have to pull my phone out of my pocket, whereas Kia makes you take the phone out, hold it near the handle while simultaneously sliding your finger in the indent. Needlessly annoying. And I never had to pull my phone out of pocket to start the car either.
    2. Gabby, will you marry me ❤😮❤
